Film you recently watched: part 3

  1. My local cinema is also an indy. Its a 1930 art deco with one screen, downstairs stalls and upstairs balcony. Its like going back in time to when I went to the cinema as a kid. Its got 2 seater bench back seats still. Dirt cheap as well.

Watching films in that sort of environment elevates them. Like yours ours has one screen, so you’re not spoiled for choice. It’s nice to just see what’s on, it’s generally not the latest blockbuster but something with less fanfare. I love that they do movie marathons over weekends and show classic horrors at Halloween too.

Any of you who studied in Nottingham probably know The Savoy in Lenton. I practically used to live in there.

Our local is like that. Sofas, full bar, hot food (pizza, nachos, that sort of thing). Great experience.

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One. Really, really enjoyable and I'm looking forward to Pt II's release in just over a fortnight. Troy Baker's Joker was very good (and very much in the vein of Mark Hammill's portrayal which is no bad thing).

    One of my favourite films.

"City of men" is the name of the tv series with the same characters. Just googled it and there were 4 series. I think I've only seen the first (only 4 episodes) and will have to check up on the other 3.

I didn't know that, thank you for letting me know. I'll have to check that out.

I've heard that Elite Squad and it's sequel Elite Squad: The Enemy Within are very good as well, especially the sequel. I believe it's the same script writer.

I was looking around and nothing streaming wise available. I had the first 2 series but I've not seen the 3rd or 4th. I wonder if it didnt get released outside Brazil. There is also a 2nd film also called City of Men.

Elite Squad was excellent. I didn’t realize there was a sequel, but I’ll definitely find it now. Thanks.

I watched Once upon a Tine in Hollywood recently. Found it very strange, but watchable. Would not be inclined to view it again, as I would with any films that I like.

Con Air - had never watched it. The missus was on call tonight so bought myself a pizza and sat down to watch it. Really enjoyed it. Incredibly cheesy but a very typical American action movie and I really enjoyed it. Nicholas Cage is just really good at those kind of roles.

Slightly cheating as this is something I will watch (on Wednesday). It's good to see Netflix are finally catering for those of us with interest in:
    1. Medieval Korean society and politics.
    2. Zombies.

Is the Curzon in Loughborough still running? I used to go there a lot in the 90s when at Uni.

Ah you probably passed a young Filbert on his way out of Toy Story or something in that case! It’s still a cinema but it was bought by odeon.

Used to get so excited walking up all those stairs to the big screens!

We sat through it last Saturday evening. Maybe I wasn't paying attention but nothing seemed to happen! That said, I quite enjoyed it. As you say, a very strange film
