Sign an incredibly obscure young player from an obscure Serbian team for a an outrageous transfer fee, invest nothing at all in him, loan him back to the selling club (who barely play him anyway), show no intention of integrating him in the youth or senior team of the two senior family clubs, then quietly cancel his contract

A lot of these players would be better off staying where they are and developing in their own environment playing 1st team football and getting their "move" later after they have matured\improved.

 

I think signing Lukebakio from a club owned by the brother of his agent (who is under investigation for numerous criminal offences in relation to his work as an agent) probably takes the biscuit on that one. Pretty sure his agent's brother's club paid the buy out clause originally had and then charged us a hefty premium.

Sven Kums and Oulare are both up there as well.

 

We couldn't integrate him with our youth team as he didn't (and still doesn't) qualify for a work permit.

Hilarious that people don’t think Pape Gueye is the shadiest deal we have ever done. The bloke literally just decided to play for someone else without punishment or comment!

 

Would love to hear someone from the club clarify what exactly happened in some of these cases.

Where either a sum of money was spent with zero return/appearances or, a young hyped prospect was purchased, *unknown occurrence* and then discarded/sold/loaned repeatedly. It's not as if it's just happened once or twice. I understand things can simply just not work out at times, but we seem to have more than the average share of strange transfers that are difficult to explain.

This conversation puts me in mind of the truly incredible exchange I observed earlier this very day under Leventhal's tweet announcing the departure of this very player (N.B. For total clarity I'm not talking about George Humphrey's contribution, least not because he is an incredibly prolific Watford poster over on reddit so he might well have a secret presence over here But also more accurately because he is making a decent point that many of us make often; it is not he who is shaming himself):
