There’s a lot wrong with multi-club ownership, but in a partnership where the owners are morons and are barely rich enough to own one club let alone two, what’s wrong with them lending us a genuinely good player from time to time? As for sedgeedge’s comment, this ain’t the 70s lad, enjoy your relegation battle lol
I can see how it gives us an unfair advantage over other clubs in the league but it is pretty commonplace in football, Nottingham Forest - Olympiacos - Rio Ave. Chelsea - Strasbourg. Man City - Girona to name a few.
Dixie Hale? You must have come across him at some time because he was here, there and every farkin where.
Dixie made Dave Mackay look like a pussy in the tackle - the crunch when he really went into one was heard in Dublin
I don’t know what the situation is with Forest and Olympiakos, but clearly with City and Girona there is some joined up thinking that benefits both sides (although Troyes are clearly receiving no benefit at the moment!), between us and Udinese it basically seems like one uses the other whenever they need the cash, hence some weird signings over the years on both sides. WTE was much maligned but was very good in the promotion season, Sierralta was too despite declining since, but Ebosele might be the best player we’ve got from them since the original batch
First two were before my time, I think, so it must be way back! John Joe is mentioned above. I met him briefly at an u21 Ireland game. Seemed a nice lad.
To be fair its the 3rd most popular sport in a country of around 5 million people (approximately 55% the population of London to put that into context) I am not sure what people expect from Ireland.
True guess they have punched above their weight in the past under Jack Charlton particularly. And there is no Roy or Robbie Keane to call upon .
Pretty big diaspora though so the amount of Irish qualifying people exceeds the population of the country itself. Just looked it up and there are an estimated 6 million people in the UK with at least one Irish grandparent. Obviously they would have to convince them to play for them rather than England...
And even some play for Ireland when they are not even Irish!! Cascarino never eligible for Irish | Football | The Guardian
