Well episodes 2 & 3 are just as good, so now I'm worrying that the end will be sh*t!

The very wonderful Silo's 2nd series has just broken the (my) 4th episode barrier. The first season was a, very faithful, interpretation of the, very good book "Wool" and was alright - it felt very rushed. In the second series the lead, Rebecca Ferguson, has really begun to show what a talent she is, I wonder if that's because this season feels like a very loose version of the second book "Shift"? I've read that final two seasons will be based on the third one, the very different to the first two books, "Dust".

    Made in Hoddesdon as well...

    Highly, highly recommended.

I finished Black Doves, the ending was decent but the final episode could have ended at a few places but drew it out a bit to close off a few threads.

I think the writing has it nicely poised for a second (and probably final) series with Wallace Webb as the PM

I've started watching Suits again after getting about three seasons in ten years or so ago and then not following it through for reasons unknown.

    Fantastic series.

I’ve recently watched it for the first time, got the last two seasons to go still. As with most US series I’ve found it’s probably a season or two too many and somewhat padded out but it’s still brilliant!

Always baffles me that so many people seem to like it so much. I feel like it started well in the first season, but quickly degenerates into formulaic rehashed plots while all the characters become caricatures of themselves.

    Good cast though.

  10. I think it was still OK for me up to about season 4 or 5 but then it started getting boring. The missus finished it off but I got to about midway through season 6 before I stopped watching.

Wasn't there a spin off with Jessica, and a planned spin off with Mike in the new city?

Another one I'm late to, but True Detective S1 is one of the best things I've ever watched. Also one of the darkest too. Amazing TV.

Yes it’s interesting how different posters have assessed the series differently. Mrs TuT and I found series 1 too slow and incomprehensible to the extent she gave up. I watched all 4 and thought 1 was original but too slow, 2 was ok, 3 was great, and 4 was rubbish.

It’s actually really good. The sex scenes have taken a back seat to a really absorbing different crime/thriller drama with the bodies piling up (and not in some weird sex act way). No spoilers as I’m about 7 episodes or so in….

Agree - downloaded it after seeing a trailer, knowing nothing more about it than that. Thought it was very good and the main actress was superb.

Binge watched the second series of Squid Games with the 18 yr old over the last couple of evenings. Hard to follow the phenomenon that was Series 1 but we both enjoyed it. No spoilers - suffice to say it has been left on a cliffhanger and some loose ends to tie up but series 3 is following shortly I believe.

Made myself watch Lockerbie last night.

I'd forgotten the details of the extent of the cover up and incompetence.

Colin Firth is superb, as is the lady who plays his wife.

I'd also forgotten that a team member on the 2004 GB trip to Turkey was at the scene for weeks on end.

She worked for MI6 as an Arabic translator.

I can't say I'm looking forward to the other episodes but a necessary watch I think.

The first episode was a slow burner (like in Series 1) but Series 2 was well written and executed, will wait until June 25th for Series 3.

I watched it recently with similar thoughts in mind ahead of starting S1, but I didn’t think it was particularly graphic. Ruthless, for sure, but I don’t think the violence was exceptionally shocking.

It is quite violent but I’m not good with very violent programmes or films and I was able to watch it. I don’t like excessive violence but this made sense within the plot. I just turned away during the especially violent bits (eg a scene in the dormitory; those who have watched it will know the one I mean) & asked my teenager to summarise what had happened and who survived!

PS Love the ending of Alice in Borderland

Simon's blasting along in a luxury speedboat, Simon's being chauffered in a top of the range 4x4 land cruiser through the jungle. Simon's in a helicopter with a load of military heavies.

Look out Colombianos, Simon 'bloody' Reeve has arrived to have a look at just what's gone wrong and give you the benefit of his fluffy-bearded wisdom. (BBC2 last night).

It's a beautiful country, he explains, very 'remote' and 'rugged'. But "for 50 years" it's been "gripped by conflict". KABOOMM!!!! Look there's a big explosion now! You see! Conflict. Clear as day.

Now then viewer, have you got those key facts to start with? Violent, rugged, jungle, untamed.....savage almost.

Drugs too. Simon does a bit to camera, scarf fully loosened, to show off a coca plant which is cocaine more or less. He doesn't know about the campesino chewing chimoa for centuries. He doesn't know about Gran Colombia. He doesn't know about Bolivar. He doesn't know about the despotism of the Hispanic and north American imperialists. He doesn't know his Barranquilla from his Cali from his Santa Marta. But it does not matter.

With some cheerful music and the news that there's a chance for peace now, Simon announces he's going on a very dangerous mission in his land cruiser, deep, deep into the jungle to meet the guerilla army.

Simon leans his elbow on the window as he's driven down some rural roads. "Goodness me!" he says scornfully.

But first it's off to some luxury millionaire islands for some cocktails in the beach tiki tiki bar. "People don't think Colombia has a Caribbean coastline" he says. "But it does!". I think he just means he didn't realise and he's enjoying his unexpected piña colada and speedboat trip.

Simon then has a look round Pablo Escobar's massive patio bar with tables and chairs everywhere. Simon strokes his chin and tells us he believes this has probably been built for entertaining. Could be, could be. He might be on to something there.

Simon goes for a walk round Cartagena with a guide. Things are heavily edited since Simon can't understand not even 'papa' in Spanish and her only English is "mister" and "hello".

It turns out she used to have a boyfriend in the farc but then he ran off and left her. What a *******. You see how they are? Drugs and violence and abandoning women. "Goodness me!".

I can't stand anymore. I turned it off.

Didn’t see any point in watching Lockerbie. No matter how well it is acted, I assumed it would be wall to wall misery and frustration, and doubted it would teach me anything I didn’t know as reward for sitting through several hours of very sad TV?

I always think the same about anything I’m familiar with as a story, but more often than not I still end up enjoying it. I’ve only watched the first episode of Lockerbie, but it was shockingly graphic in terms of the actual crash as well as extremely sad, so I’d say it can still be ‘enjoyed’ even being familiar with what happened.

Similarly to the 7/7 docs Carpster recommended, I know what happened but they’ve still been compelling viewing.

  31. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

Yeah, based on your description of the first episode I’m not sure I’d have enjoyed it. I’d prefer to read up on it rather than watch the harrowing events portrayed over several hours by excellent actors. If there had been a happy ending to the story maybe I’d have sat through the misery. We are all different.

When I say graphic, I might add that anything to do with the bodies of the victims is mostly just implied, I meant more the mechanics of the actual crash, which really made you appreciate the brutality of it, and what it might have actually been like to be in the midst of it on the ground, but I totally get your wider point.

Mrs TuT is also absolutely terrified of flying (and we do a lot of that eg Chile a month ago, Sth A in 3 weeks...), so another reason to miss the "mechanics of the actual crash" excellent though it may have been :) ! Fortunately her love of travel just about overcomes her fear/hatred of flying, and I don't want to interfere with that !

I've watched quite a few shows over the past year and have been impressed by all.

    Better Call Saul

    Ozark

Top Boy - didn't think I'd like it, not really my style. Started off boring, decided to give it 1 more episode and loved it from there.

    The Wire

Currently watching Fargo and just started the last season.
