Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but I’m gonna recommend Fisk (Netflix), especially to those of you who have enjoyed Colin from Accounts. Watched 2 seasons earlier this year and we loved it.

  5. Well I started watching TWD and up to now, halfway through season 2 and geez it's been a struggle. Pretty slow paced and not a lot happens each episode, and feels more like a teen drama sometimes rather than a zombie series!

They've spent far too long at that bloody farm looking for the girl and just hanging around with nothing much going on.

But damn if season 2 episode 7 isnt a kicker! Suddenly a lot of secrets are out and that ending!

    For your 1st spoiler...
This is commonly how the show ends up. US shows particularly that should have been 16 episodes end up being 58. And they fill it with moody nothing and 5 episodes to decide one story.

TWD has some incredible one off episodes, but also some incredibly tedious episodes where nothing happens. Up to Negan they’re all generally net good though.

  10. Yeah I get that there needs to be some filler. I'm not overly bothered when there aren't any zombie heavy episodes to save on budget as I'm more interested in how all the pockets of humans meet and interact, as that was something I found interesting in The Last Of Us.

But the first season was only 6 seasons long, the second only 13. But geez some episodes have been so slow. Last few (s2 e7-11) are getting good.

But there's only so much I can get invested in a love triangle that got old after episode 3 of the first season!

Death spoilers below (although for a season 13 years old do I need to spoiler tag them?!)

I'm not ever bothered too much by too many of the deaths. Most of the characters are annoying and their deaths are more a relief than a shock! The whole missing Sophia story dragged like hell, though the reveal was very good!).

I find myself not caring too much about anyone except Daryl - if he dies soon I might just stop watching (I know he has a spin off so assume he lives a while, unless it's a prequel.) Most of the characters are annoying and I won't care too much if they leave or get killed off!

And Shane needs to go. Whe. I saw Jon Berenthal was in it I was looking forward to it after The Punisher but he just needs to go somewhere as his character is annoying as hell!
    .

So I'll persist with this a little longer. The next seasons are increasing in episodes so I imagine a lot more filler episodes to come...!

I think so, as others have said it can be a bit tedious in parts but overall it's a great show. Trying to go into Dead City without knowing the characters background (Negan and Maggie) will probably be a bit confusing and have you googling a fair bit throughout.

Obviously if you don't have the time to watch TWD there's plenty of ways to catch up and I'm sure there's reddit posts out there thay can slim down the watching time but you really do need to see Negan at his peak.

  12. Well finished season 3 last night. I quite enjoyed it - better than S1 and S2 though reading the series discussion threads on Reddit from 11 years ago a lot of people felt it fell a little flat.

Although they've been stuck at the prison the whole season and are still there going in to season 4, it wasn't as slow as the farm in season 2 that seemed to go on forever despite 3 fewer/less episodes.

The Guvonor role was done brilliantly - I know some cominc readers thought he wasn't as deranged but he got that way by the end and can't wait to see how it all goes next season.

Some great character additions too to the Rick crew.

Glad a few characters have gone - Lori was so annoying though they gave her a bit of redemption. Same with Andrea - was happy to see them both go as just became annoying in the end but she too got a small redemption in the end (characters always seem to redeem themselves just before they get killed!

Merle was another who died after finally doing some good, but I loved his character and wanted him to stay on.

Carl was really annoying in seasons 1 and 2 but has become a proper badass this season which is enjoyable - a kid of the apocalypse!

All in all I was entertained and am looking forward to season 4.

This was all brought to you by the letters T, W and D and the number 3.

Aside from it completely going to pot after the Negan stuff, I think longevity wise TWD is fundamentally flawed as a concept.

You automatically root for them to get some sort of safety, but then once they get it there is no peril in that so it becomes boring, they can’t just live happily ever after, but even so, once they lose their safety it’s still frustrating they’re back to square one. There are only so many times you can go though that cycle.

  14. I dont think its a flawed concept in so much that as there aren't many sci-fi series that last beyond 6 or 7 series anyway. Maybe flawed in trying to flog it to 11 series and a few spin offs to boot!

The one thing helping me is that there are a few characters that I'm rooting to get munched as they're annoying so hope they don't all get to safety!

I'm actually enjoying the human conflicts and interactions more than the zombie stuff to be honest which I thought I would as I felt the same during the last of us.

I know a lot of TLOU fans complained that there weren't enough zombies in that series but I preferred how they dealt with all the different settlements and factions and what people were willing to do to survive.

It definitely gradually transitions to be more and mostly about the human interactions than the zombies, to the point you wonder why they made such a meal out of dealing with them at the start (but obviously we all would).

Incidentally the (pretty much zombie free) episode of TLOU with Nick Offerman is probably up there as one of my favourite episodes of any programme ever. I know it got a lot of hate from some people, but I never played the game so to me it was just fantastic TV.

  16. Yeah agreed. As a non-game player too that was an amazing episode.

The Last of Us is an adaptation of a video game, the main lead is Pedro Pascal. It’s a slight variation on the Zombie apocalypse premise as they’re slightly different (not caused by a virus but fungus). If you like that genre it’s excellent and you don’t need to have played the games at all.

Thursday night and a little Parricide with the help of Netflix. Hopefully they can pull of the Menendez brothers story aswell as they did with Dahmer.

Watched the first two episodes, doesn’t seem as good as the Dahmer one so far but that’s possibly due to the overall Story.

Lyle really reminds me of Jason Bateman in American Physcho which is weird considering the actress who plays their mum was in it.

the murder scene was pretty graphic and brutal!

    Night sleeper. BBC.

Utter Drivel, the dialogue is hilarious, decisions made are laughable and the whole thing feels like it's written by sixth form students.

It's fast paced with lots of action, but it's not at all good.

Maybe a little bit too much back and forth, which is annoying because of having to explain to the Mrs every 15 minutes where we're at.

Meanwhile Mafs UK, I end up watching it because the Mrs loves it, it’s pure trash and as far away from ‘Science’ as you could possibly get and purely about entertainment… but some of the men on it this year are beyond delusional. One guy last night looked like Friar Tuck and was disappointed when his bride wasn’t Megan Fox and an 11/10 like him.

The main thing bugging me is how short the train is. Four carriages plus engines? Hardly worth running the thing. The Caledonian Sleeper has sixteen.

I don't watch much TV, apart from IASIP and Sopranos on repeat and, of course, Bargain Hunt, but I gave 'Douglas is Cancelled' a go

Ultimately it was 4 episodes that could have been 1. The attempt to write 'snappy' and witty dialogue fell flat and just felt forced.

The plot was predicable and hinged on some absolutely obvious, out of character words coming back to haunt people. Think a Poirot scene where he says 'murdered? I never said Sir Robert was murdered. Why would you say that unless you, Reverend Pickles, murdered him?'

I was surprised at how deep Karen Gillen's voice is and Alex Kingston is borderline unwatchable.

    5/10

I thought it was a decent effort and I liked the way the story turned initial expectations. The three leads were very good even if AK was too showy.

The worst thing for me was the ‘comedy’ writer but that wasn’t to be taken seriously. 7/10.

I love a bit of MAFS, they have definitely done the ladies dirty this year. The delusions of grandeur are mad, the only half decent blokes so far are the clown and deaf bloke. That Nathan fella can't even concentrate for more than two seconds, tbf to him that's probably down to his ADHD, which everyone and their mum had got this year.

  33. Dear God this show is horrendous! The wife loves it and I catch bits of it in passing or just so we spend time in the same room other than watching different things in different rooms!

I was interested in the first couple of series (Oz and then uk) out of curiosity and genuinely think some of the people were actually on there for love.

But it's now just full of people who want to be famous - influences or people promoting their own business. Maybe 2 people are genuine per series, the rest are shameless self interested tat.

Agreed the science is complete bullsh×t. No way should 80% of these couples ever be paired together because they are incredibly incompatible most of the time and even those that are cause trouble of cheat just to get screen time. And some people get treated like absolute sh×t and then choose "stay" just so they stay on the show longer.

    Absolute trash tv.

  34. I see there's a new walking dead spin off.

Daryl Dixon: The Book Of Carol!

Probably one of the most bland characters of the first few seasons. How she's getting her own spin off, I'll never know.
