Atomic People, BBC iPlayer, is an important document. It focuses on the experience of the last remaining survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs, survivors who were all children at the time.

Their story is simply told and looks at their childhood in the war, their immediate experience of the bomb, the short to medium term suffering of those who succumbed to radiation sickness or developed cancers and (almost the most heartbreakingly) the uncaring treatment they continued to endure from both US and Japanese authority with the discrimination against them within Japan.

It’s strong stuff but by no means without light and warmth. Highly recommended.

Anybody been watching House of Dragon.

It was the S2 finale tonight which was
Bloody awful, absolutely nothing happened. I believe it’s due to it being cut from 10 to 8 episodes, but what a waste of time. S2 has been awful compared to S1

Just coming back to this post as I’m 45 mins from the end of the last episode and you were right I’ve really enjoyed this series much more than 1&4. Series 3 next. What did you make of series 4?

I haven’t watched Season 4 yet as decided to watch something of a different genre first so started “Douglas Has Been Cancelled” and then, once the Olympics started, have just been watching that. So will watch Season 4 once the Olympics has ended.

Just finished watching this. Time well spent. Clare Danes is an extraordinarily intense actor. Hadn’t seen her in anything since Homeland (which me and the wife binged through twice). Lizzie Caplan is good too. If there’s such a thing as a ‘yummy mummy’, then she embodies it. Her narration throughout doesn’t get boring. The whole thing is insightful and introspective in an updated Woody Allen kind of way, with female eyes. A commentary about rich Jewish New Yorkers of a certain age, told with tenderness and humour. And a little bit of nookie.
    Also. Beware: contains TOBACCO depiction.

I’m so unhip I don’t know what TOBACCO means in this context. For all I know you could mean cigarettes. :)

‘A little bit of nookie’ is an understatement to say the least.

Great series, glad someone else has enjoyed it.

Thank the Gods for iPlayer & "The Cops". I was abroad when this was first shown - but was advised to watch it be a friend. I was very taken by the strong performance of Clare McGlinn and wondered if she was in anything else 'good' when I stumbled upon this gem of luvieness from IMDB:

Loved it at the time. It took those episodes of The Sweeney where the police **** it up to whole new levels. Haven’t caught up with it since, so don’t know how well it’s lasted.

There is another spin off coming as well, A knight of the seven kingdoms, I think, about Dunk and Egg.

Mostly unrelated, but for some reason all, of a sudden there are also about four weird walking dead spin offs.

Least those are good, largely complete and, unlike Fire and Blood, actually written as a story rather than an unreliable narrator authored "history" book.

If they stick to the source material it should be good.

Yeah I read the Hedge Knight stories. Nice little distraction whilst we awaited the Winds of Winter - 13 years ago!

I've also seen adverts for all these WD spin offs. The ones who live, Darryl etc.

Maybe these are good, and I'm being unfair, but if they had quality content set in that universe, why didn't they use it on the show instead of sending it into a dull spiral after the first Negan wars

We Might Regret This, BBC iPlayer, is maybe the frankest sitcom ever. Its tetraplegic heroine, Freja, rarely goes an episode without having an orifice explored, whether that’s by catheterisation, or for manual bowel evacuation or during sex. Such is the life of a young disabled person. Privacy isn’t really an option.

If that all sounds rather worthy don’t be put off. It’s very funny, with well-drawn characters, broad engaging storylines and excellent acting.

More frank than Some Mothers Do Have ‘Em.

  18. I quite like the look of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Mainly because I like Jeffrey Dean Morgan in The Boys.

Problem is to do so I guess I should watch the 177 episodes of TWD first!

Or pick up again from when Negan joins the show.

Then ditch it, it became like the last series of GOT very quickly afterwards.

Speaking of TWD villains, I gave Daddy Issues a go for the first episode. Literally no idea how **** like this gets commissioned. A sitcom without any actual jokes or humour. Awful.

That's probably the best advice on TWD that I've read. When "Lucille" makes an appearance run for the hills.

Kaos on Netflix, a really fun and enjoyable modern take on Greek mythology.

I only really know the basics, so a lot of it is probably lost on me, but if you know more about it I think you’d really enjoy it (unless you’re a purist and don’t like some of the poetic licence they’ve used to bring it up to date) despite knowing what happens. Great cast too.

Started watching this last night and found it quite enjoyable, although my knowledge of the Greek myths is too rusty to get all of the in jokes. I will persist with it, I think.
