I watched breaking bad a while ago and while watchable didn’t really feel much love for any of the characters , as you say Jessie particular annoying. It’s a good solid 7 but not sure why it is rated so high , probably like game of thrones a bit of hype vs reality

Same as me. I gave up after the first season I think (Tuco?)

I should have persevered, it seems.

I was bored with his family drama.

It gets much better season three and four, one and two were a real struggle (for me) so you have to get through those first and obviously that’s a lot of episodes. I found not a lot actually happened and you’re just constantly waiting for them to get going and actually start making meth properly, they just seem to go round in circles for a while.

I think season three and four is where it peaked for me, I’m on to season five and I’ve now got to the point where I’m finding Jessie less annoying but WW really quite irritating.

I’m now finding Skylar incredibly annoying, totally against it all for ages, then suddenly 100% bought in to it all, then in series five she has a total meltdown about it all again.

Breaking Bad is a slow burner to start but absolutely incredible for the most part and at its peak.

Better Call Saul is an even slower burner for an even longer period to start but is closing in on reaching the very highest levels of brilliance that Breaking Bad reached. In some ways I like it even more. Really looking forward to seeing how they all tie it up and into Breaking Bad.

Thank f**k Bob Odenkirk pulled through last week, he's brilliant.

That "Happy Birthday" scene is very uncomfortable to watch.

But all in all an accurate character...pretends to have morals until she sees money.

Yes, I prefer it. BB is terrific, but looking back on it hard to say I enjoyed it. BCS has more depth in that respect, but doesn’t lack tension.

Currently I am enjoying binging the whole 3 series of "Get Shorty" well worth a watch IMO.

Skylar is Woody Harrelson in a wig.

    She's an awful character.

Her actress accused people of sexism for the widespread dislike of the character, but the reality is that she was deeply unpleasant with no notable redeeming qualities. The fact that women seemed to dislike her just as strongly if not more than men (my wife detested her) seemed to be lost on Anna Gunn.

I always used to say to Mrs D that only a very good actor could create such a dislikeable character as Skylar.

Incidentally I’m now onto BCS, I’m well into the second series but as stated above it is definitely slower than BB. I guess that is something having BB before it affords it, if for some reason you hadn’t seen BB, it would be a real struggle on a standalone basis but knowing the characters in advance allows it to be slow. I can see where it’s going though and I’m enjoying it so far.

Yes, I never understood why Gunn took it so personally. If you make people revile your character then you're obviously eliciting an emotional response and are doing a great job acting it.

    You'd think she'd be proud!

    FAO Always Sunny fans.

Had my dear old mother round tonight and she wanted to watch something funny that she’d never seen before. Showed her ‘The gang gets taken hostage’ ‘Sweet Dee is dating a ******** person’ and ‘The Nightman cometh’ as a best of. She laughed her head off, especially at the McPoyles. So proud, bless her.

I’ll have to get her into 30 Rock and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt next.

...And proving, yet again, that I'm continually fingering the pulse of the Zeitgeist (the quoted posts are almost 4 years old) I'm half way through the first series of Mindhunter and it's totally engrossing (I only started watching it because I voiced the opinion elsewhere that the very recently released No Man of God wasn't really my cup of tea - in spite of the very strong performance of Elijah "Not a Hobbit" Wood). Highly recommended.

I was mentioning Edge of Darkness on another thread and there is more than a touch of that about Vigil which started last night. Nuclear paranoia, peaceniks, a proper 80s revival.

After an absolutely cracking first 20 minutes (the scenes where the detective meets up with the Sub are genuinely thrilling) it settles down a little and you have time to ponder just how flipping big is that submarine on the inside? They are big, but that big?

Looking forward to the next episode immensely.

The first series was excellent: Holt McCallany's and Anna Torv's performances were excellent and strong/credible throughout both series (and both provided interesting sub-plots). It suffered a little from ye olde second series not as good as the first syndrome but this can be forgiven as the first series was so strong. Can I reiterate that series' subject matter really isn't my cup of tea but I was engrossed. Among the 'secondary cast' (I don't want to say too much as I went into watching this knowing very little about the show) Cameron Britton gives a hypnotically good performance.

Not favourite series by any means, but I see they’ve ‘Australianified’ the U.K. version of Married at First Sight.

Shame they feel the need to dumb it down as I did actually enjoy the more serious format, although of course it never actually worked.

I want to hate it due to the hype but it's just great viewing. I enjoyed episode two as much as the first. The only minor thing that pi**ed me off and I'll say it in quotes as I don't want to spoil it for anyone....

When they had to surface to refuel their diesel tanks and they were only able to spot the huge cargo ship via periscope, I just laughed, absolute nonsense

    Agreed but,

I think that was a radar fault due to sabotage. The operator was unable to explain it. Worse than this for me was the daftness of the police officer telling the peace campaigner to wait with people and then she stands for what seems like hours (it goes dark in the meantime) before the Police Officer arrives too late. The same officer also didn’t need to enter her house while it was being burgled. She simply could have called it in and lurked by the front door until back up arrived.

Yeah, I didn't like it. It seemed indulgent and completely out of character. I know that Rob has LGBT family so it meant a lot to him, but it was incongruous with Mac's closeted nature, Frank's cynicism and I don't get how Mac dancing with a hot woman explains his gayness.

Mac's torso was awesome though, I mean, body mass alone.
