I said this all along, he would’ve ideally liked a move to sunnier climbs to see out his career, but if it didn’t come off he had a three year pension pot to fall back on anyway. He’s a class player, but he enjoys being a big fish in a small pond so he’ll be more than happy to pick up his £45k a week while he nutmegs his fifth northern clogger in a row.

Are you planning to kick him?

Guessing we can't flog him if you boot him hard enough.

    A) A Capoue at 50% is too good for the Championship

    B) Is Capoue's overall style capable of being measured by percentage? He's as louche as they come whatever the weather, and he's hardly Kante - he doesn't necessarily need to be covering every blade of grass to be effective.

    C) Who knows, thinking wishfully he might find he enjoys being the flairiest, most swashbuckling game-controller in the entire division. It might be like great banter to him.

So kind of Capoue to play for the club paying his wages, what a hero.

2 Watford launderettes have gone bankrupt following the announcement that Etienne Capoue is staying at Watford. They both cited a dramatic fall in the number of wet urine stained bedsheets needing cleaning in the Watford area. Conversely, kleenex have announced booming sales in their branded Watford Fc range printed with the words: Foster Ngakia Troost-Ekong Cathcart Wilmot Sema Capoue Hughes Garner Sarr Gray

Yep. As happy as I am that he's seemingly staying, lets not kid ourselves that he's had a sudden change of heart and loves the idea of staying. All his exiled pals got their moves and he was the last man standing - faced with training alone and being frozen out until January or a whole season , he's gone cap in hand to the boss and asked to be allowed back in.

It's great news and hopefully both parties put it behind them. But I'm not going to fall over myself with praise for the player either.

Best thing he can do is play out of his skin to attract interest at Xmas.

How long does he have left on his contract? If it’s three more seasons he is going to look very leggy by the end of it.

I see it a little different. He's been at the club for a long time and has never shown any intention of wanting to leave in the past. He seemed content at the club and has always been a positive force around the place. Of course a relegation is tough on players who consider themselves above that level. Looking at everyone's comments of how highly they rate Capoue as a player, it's a fair to say he's too good for the Championship.

With that in mind, a proposition was put to him, to play at Valencia under a coach he's played for in the past and he clearly liked. It was something he liked the look of and decided to go for it. I do not blame him for that.

It wasn't as if he wanted out, no matter what, like Estupinan, Suarez and Welbeck. He was offered something that he liked the look of. At 32, he's not going to get too many offers at the elite level.

When it didn't materialise. then he was happy to continue at Watford.

I think the club did him a disservice by telling everyone he put in a transfer request. Why did they do that? They stayed tight-lipped over Suarez and Welbeck after all. There was no need to announce that, and now a few fans will hold that against him, and show a bit of resentment towards him, which I think is unfair.

No one is being negative towards Deulofeu are they? They accept the situation with good grace. Geri doesn't want to stay to get us promoted after all. He just wants to play in the top leagues, but he'll be welcomed back with open arms if we go up, no doubt.

  15. The club tried to do its business in private but the bed wetters wouldn't have it. ‘The club need to communicate with us’ was all over social media. So they did.

If Capoue was willing to put in a transfer request, and it seemed more likely than not he would leave, I think the club were in the right to tell the fans what was going on.

Personally I don't really have an issue with Capoue wanting to move. For a player of his quality, and at his age, it was likely his last chance to get a move to a big club.

Provided he is willing to put it behind him and play this season it is all water under the bridge as far as I am concerned.

Really happy Caps is staying. He gave us 5 years and at 32 I dont blame him for wanting to keep playing in the top flight. Im not assuming he'll play well in the Champo but if he does this is a huge boost for us. An on form Capoue Hughes and Garner would be an amazing midfield. Even a flakey Capoue would still be a decent option in the champo.

I don't disagree with this, but they cherry-pick what they announce. You either announce everything or keep it all quiet.

I just found it strange, when 90% of what they do is "top secret" yet they happily throw Capoue under the bus, which will now cause him some issues with certain fans, because he didn't go.

Ivic referenced "injury" as well as "transfer window" when discussing him, so he may not have been fit for the start of the season anyway. He did miss the final 3 games of last season, after all.

Exactly. I have no issue with the players or his reasons for wanting to move one. I’m just saying no one should be thinking he’s had a sudden change of heart either!

It does seem more that he was set on Valencia than him just wanting out generally, otherwise he would still be trying to force a move to a PL club.

Whether he is pissed off he was priced out of that is a different issue, and ultimately one we have to take Ivic's word on.

They also said Pereyra had made a transfer request. Maybe the reason they said those two had is because they were the only ones? Welbeck and Suarez may not have actually gone through the formality of doing it.

Of course it also benefits the club to communicate who has put in a transfer request ,as it then gives some explanation for why if they end up moving the player on.

Ironically he is probably the one player that I would not have begrudged had he got a move, because he has served us well so far, which more than we can say for most of the other wantaways.

Having said that I am actually very pleased he is staying and hopefully he will see out the rest of his playing career with us.

I don't really care that he wanted to leave. He obviously wanted to play for Gracia at Valencia and who can blame him? We are a Championship club now and Valencia are a massive club in a great city and play in La Liga not the second tier. I don't take it to heart. He didn't get his move which would have been a brilliant move for him at his age, if he is happy to play for Watford then that is great news. He is a thousand miles better than anyone we could replace him with at Chanpionship level and is easily the best midfielder in the division.

To be honest, he can hardly be ecstatic that Valencia wanted him so much, they were willing to stump up....zilch for the privilege. Especially when it would involve a drop in salary also.

Do we think (as a first wave of premier league signings), he may have have a relegation clause in his contract? It might explain his reluctance to play in the Championship.

personally, his inclusion in the squad has re-fired my optimism for the season.

They are so broke they are releasing their best players just to get them off their books.

Javi Gracia has tried to walk out, but the owner has demanded he pay EUR 3m to do so.

Pretty sure he was one of the few players who didn't have a relegation clause, hence we would have been happy enough to see him leave

Yeah, it looks like it's a case of him just wanting to be reunited with a manager he got on well with, rather than just wanting out, I think most people in a similar position would do the same! Hopefully he doesn't **** off to Fulham or somewhere now!

174 league apps and 13 goals for Toulouse.
24 league apps and 1 goal for Spurs.
156 league apps and 9 goals for Watford.

Very much doesn't seem like he's ever been a character that's constantly agitating for a move and isn't just happy to have a career football wherever he is.

Plus, by the end of the season he'll likely have more appearances for us than any other club in his career. He must have some sort of soft spot for us...
