Weren't you complaining the other day about two threads being on the go in regards to Deeney?

There is a thread on Capoue in the transfer section where this is being discussed.

    Good interview with Capoue today.

    https://www.watfordfc.com/news/capoue-im-now-focused-on-this-club

I liked the bit where he said "I really love this club"....but I'm sure the missed out a few caveats in that quote!!

Anyway, he's now fully on board and I get his disappointment. It's good to hear it affected him badly. I don't think that was the case for quite a few players. Now he's over his disappointment and fully committed, that can only be a massive benefit to Watford going forward.

Yeah, yeah, he'll be gone in January if someone comes in for him.

I would really like to have a little quiet chat with notre Etienne about the expectations of fans.

    He probably doesn't really care.

Will be off in January I reckon if a club comes in for him and we agree a deal.

If he puts in another ineffectual performance on Wednesday I'd drop him for,at least, several games.
Player power has to be stopped. If we allow it to continue we'll lose any chance of promotion.
However the club paid them to do nothing when the season started so what did they think would happen.

I tend to agree but not sure we can replace him with anyone if Hughes is injured.
Could Hughes and Kabs have Covid?

Injuries it seems but who knows as we don’t get told what the issues are.

I saw them described as injuries but the lack of information makes me wonder.
However,as you say,we're told nothing so it's not a surprise.

Hughes had some kind of non football related issue I think.

Notice Cathcart was fit to play the next NI game despite going off injured against Slovakia .

No long term problem there then - NI medical team obviously a bit better !

It strikes me that Cathcart is the sort of player who would play through a knock and not restrict himself to only playing when he feels 100% unlike a number of other players in our squad.

It's a sad state of play ( or not in this case) that players chicken out of playing.
Most athletes have some niggle almost all of the time.
Makes you consider their appetite for the game and battle.
    Flimsy.

I may have him confused with someone else, but isn't it Capoue who's preferred sport is actually basketball? But it is football he's actually good at so that's what he does for a job.

If you look at it like that, as a fellow idler, I completely understand why he would take any opportunity to get out of playing football when they present themselves. He probably enjoys going to work as much as most other people, i.e. not at all.

Doing things you don't want to do is shyt, no matter how much you get paid.

Many athletes don't enjoy their sport,Agassi is a prime example and yes Capoue does prefer basketball.
I agree most people don't enjoy their job or profession but 45k a week does sugar the pill somewhat I'd hope?!
Footballers I suppose can coast, contracts being so ludicrous and not performance related, unlike tennis or golf.

I don't think high wages are enough to overcome human nature. If you're a lazy get then that's what you are.

I agree that footballers can coast due to their contracts, but also team sports allow a far larger degree of loafing than solo sports. If you're having a bad day as a footballer you can hide behind your team mates to a certain degree. There's no hiding place as a solo sports player. I remember being great at athletics back at the day on the training track, but come the big occasion at Woodside I'd fall to pieces - false starts and generally awful times abound. So I naturally graduated towards team sports with all the others with weaker mental fortitude. As a tennis player I'm sure you know all about it.

Never knew Agassi didn’t enjoy tennis. Always seemed a happy chap on court compared to all the the mardy mards he played!

I agree but I'd hope the enormous piles of cash would act as an incentive but as you say human nature may be harder to overcome.
As someone who lost five first round matches on the trot I understand failure. It takes a long time to understand that choking is part of sport and not to be afraid of it and not to hide from it. I wish I'd known all of this as a junior player but as they say, youth is wasted on the young!
It was his overly competitive dad,who I think was an olympic wrestler that made him dislike tennis. Apparently Graff felt the same and her dad Peter was also hugely ambitious for his daughter. This was when they realised they had a lot in common.
Some mad parents in tennis,I've seen a mother wallop her daughter after she lost a match. This was thirty years ago and she would be prosecuted today, quite correctly.
Unfortunate surname given this. Letters were t w l and e.

I only really got into tennis when Agassi was in this final 3 or 4 years. Thumping Scheuttler in the Aus Open final. Maybe he had broken free of his Dad by then?

I was exactly the same, I was a very good triple jumper, an excellent trainer, lived the life off the track, but on it, I just absolutely fell to pieces. The biggest event of my life, the Herts Schools Championships (which served as a qualifier for the English Schools up in Gateshead which was televised on Sky) as I'd already made the qualifying standard I basically needed a top 2 finish as the national champ from the previous year wasn't there, but absolutely bottled it, started with 2 foul jumps and ended up 3rd behind someone I really should have smashed, a good 50cm behind what I usually jumped. I actually ended up at the English Schools when someone pulled out, I should have just treated it like a bonus and enjoyed the experience, but nah, I bottled that as well and didn't do myself justice (albeit not as badly, and I was always gonna be an also ran in that field). I look back on my achievements with pride now, but back then, competitions were hell, I could barely sleep before them
