England to host Spain in friendly

England have arranged a friendly against Spain which will take place on 7 February at Old Trafford.
It will be the first match between the sides since a stormy game in Madrid in November 2004 when Spain were fined £45,000 for their fans' racist insults.

"Spain are attractive opposition and many of them play in the Premiership, so there will be a lot of interest," said FA spokesman Adrian Bevington.

"With Wembley set to open it's a chance for fans in the north to see the team."

He added: "It is the largest stadium available to us - we had 72,000 fans attend our last game at Old Trafford against Macedonia."

Spain's last visit to England came in February 2001 in what was former coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's first match in charge.

England triumphed 3-0 at Villa Park, with goals from Nick Barmby, Emile Heskey and Ugo Ehiogu.

The England Under-21 side will be in action on Tuesday 6 February, when they take on their Spanish counterparts at Derby County's Pride Park.

Absolutely. There's not much I'm not prepared to run events for.

I had to go to Madrid with work when Spain were playing one of their World Cup games this summer, it was the day before the England v Sweden game. It still makes me laugh now when I remeber the lunacy that they call a match commentary. There were 3 commentators, 2 men and a woman. They all talk at 100 MPH even when absolutely nothing's happening, and at one point they started singing "I'm singing in the rain" for no reason whatsoever! We were eating in a bar/restaraunt type place and I had serious trouble eating because I was laughing so much. great entertainment.
