Guess some will miss the feel of the sports report tune and hearing the results as they were read in the traditional way..

Or just a sign of the times as Radio 5 are covering a game at 5.30 now.

And it wasn't like they totally ignored the results.

Just read out by the host instead.

It used to be a post-match tradition to listen to this coming away from a game in the car, but ever since the half-time break and injury time were extended matches finish too late to catch it.

Good question. Probably longer ago than I care to remember, possibly right back to the start of the PL where it was almost certainly instigated. Half-time used to be about 10 minutes at the discretion of the ref and with only one sub injury time was negligible unless there really were injuries, which meant games almost always finished somewhere between 4.40 and 4.45. At some point half-time was formalised at 15 minutes, no doubt for TV coverage reasons.

I happened to be in the car on Saturday afternoon and at just before 5 changed radio channels to listen to Sports Report and the football results. I nearly crashed when after the theme tune finished instead of the full results they just had some nit-wit mumbling the Premier League scores. I suppose we must be grateful that they haven't replaced 'Out of the Blue' with something more 'inclusive' and trans-friendly, but I fear it's only a matter of time. Yet another reason to scrap the licence fee

I just missed it - did they only read the PL ones out .

It’s probably so 5live can pad in a load of bland cliche ridden interviews before the 5.30 kick off ?
