He's only played about 1/5th of his career matches as a left-winger/left-forward. It wouldn't be impossible, but I'd be disappointed if that was the case given that I think many of us were hoping for us to splash out a bit more on a specialist, proven left-forward. It's also not impossible that we don't go for one of the fastest attacks around, including Dennis as the striker and someone else on the left-wing. I'm guessing though that he's mainly being brought in as the first-choice sub/backup option for both the striker and right-wing positions, rather than being an automatic starter anywhere. He'll probably make about as many appearances coming on for Sarr, as he does starting alongside Sarr.
Dennis bombing down one wing and Sarr down the other whipping balls across the 6 yard box for Troy to slide home. Great stuff.
I seriously doubt we're splashing out on anyone, those days are gone. If it starts with more than a 10 forget it. The consequence of fans and council not accommodating a move to a bigger ground is we're stuck being one of the smallest clubs in the PL. Expect from here on buying youngsters, bargains, and taking risks on players like Dennis. I'd hope I'm wrong but I believe that's the way it's going to be.
You’re right my mistake, Troy racing into the 6 yard box to smash it home. Or whip in front of the defender at the front post to glide it in. Or burst away from the defender to peel off to the back post and rise like a salmon to nod it home.
Worrying sign: "Isaac [Success] is my guy. We’re friends, he’s a nice guy, we hang out, we laugh a lot.”" https://www.watfordfc.com/news/dennis-im-really-happy-to-be-here
As long as the smash is mash, the whip is walnut, the burst is starburst, the peel is on a chocolate orange and the salmon comes with plenty of chips.
Funnily enough I had the same thought. But was too lazy to post it of course. 10-1 on it features the word 'menace' in our version
Most f***able and every lads wet dream at the time, but curious she never actually looked like she was singing anything
It was. We bid 5m, release clause was 8m. Think Reading wanted all the money up front as they're so poor. Although it seems we are also very poor as we couldn't stretch to that.
Thanks for confirming. That is very frustrating we couldn’t just stump up that bit more money to get such a gifted player. I’m sure we’ll still manage to waste more than £8m on some useless flops before the window closes.
Also not sure why Udinese loaned Pussetto instead of buying him back from us when it's clear he's never gonna play for us again. They've made €50m+ this window so can't be skint.
Very good point. If they sent us a few quid we could’ve got Olise for half the price he’s already worth! Nevermind how much he may be worth after 1/2 good seasons in the PL.
Very frustrating. The sort who could make the difference between us or CP being bottom 3 this season.
I was told that being a release clause, Reading were always going to ask for the fee up front. When you offer instalments etc, the release clause isn’t activated and Reading still have the power to reject it. A move for Olise was never going to happen unless we had £8m in the bank to spend in one go. Shame really.
Well, not really. We might be able to sign a £20m player (theoretically) if the initial payment is say, £4m and the rest over the contract. That’s fairly standard practice. But finding £8m to pay in one go would be a struggle for a many clubs this summer. I wouldn’t read too much into it. I suspect Reading value Olise at more than £8m - but there’s nothing they can do about a release clause they agreed whilst his stock was low. A bid of £5m was always going to be met with a request to pay his release clause in full.
I might be alone in this but I am not too disappointed we didn't get Olise. If we could've picked him up for a rock-bottom bargain price then fine, but Reading weren't having it. He's one for the future, rather than for right now IMO. I dare say he'll make Palarse a profit down the road, but we need to focus on staying up this season. I'd rather we spend the limited number of millions we have at our disposal on players that will make an immediate impact & improve our chances of avoiding the drop. I'm not sure Olise would have.
Also worth noting that Olise is French. Even if we had activated the clause, Palace have clearly been monitoring him and would have done the same. Being a French midfielder, playing under Vieira would be quite a draw. Not to mention their ability to pay more wages and be a more established PL club. Want an exciting young midfielder? Save £8m and give Sonny Lo-Everton a push to the first team squad - sink or swim. We might just be surprised.
At roughly the same age one was on loan at non-league Wealdstone while the other was one of the best players in the Championship. No comparison.
Hence why I said we might be surprised. He’s a talented boy and we have to push the few we have if we can’t pay £8m to take others.
