But they also had (in their best years) players who were aging like frank clark, john o’hare and john mcgovern, larry lloyd etc. they also took kenny burns as a somewhat misfiring striker and turned him into a centre back.
Anyone got any updates on Zinkernagel's performances for his new club? Sent from my SM-S908B using Tapatalk
Clough and Taylor were a superb combination. They made good players great and average / players of dubious reputations ( Burns) good or great too. To win the league with two provincial clubs is an outstanding achievement and will never be replicated.
Quite a few stories that Forest are very keen on Dennis for 20M but I am not sure any of it will come to reality. New season starts in less than two weeks and I feel Dennis will line up against Sheff Utd. Whether or not he will still be here at the end of the Window is another matter.
If he’s gonna go, I’d rather he just ****ed off asap so we can get on with building the team for this season. The special ones on Twitter are saying any future transfers are dependent on getting Dennis and Sarr out the door and I’ve got no faith in us bringing anyone half decent in if this is left until deadline day.
I don't have any faith in them bringing in the required quality if we'd have sold them on day one. Recruitment is abysmal.
Heard via a source that Cucho had a banana for breakfast this morning, followed by a quick Zoom call with his mum. He then brushed his teeth and headed to training. More when I get it.
I think we have to! I really can't see how we can consistently score goals otherwise. João is great, but he just doesn't have that killer pace. I don't think it would break the bank to retain him either, but I'm sure his agent has other ideas. They're talking about needing strikers but I'm more worried about our midfield. Given up hoping the defence will ever be seen to.
According to the Daily Mail: "Forest are pressing ahead with their offer [for Maxwell Cornet] but a deal for Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis now looks to be off." https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...d-sign-Maxwel-Cornet-amid-Everton-Fulham.html
Translation: ‘we made that up for clicks, but now need to downplay it again before we can be called out for being wrong’
Have we actually received a single offer for Sarr or Dennis? If not then it suggests they aren’t first choice targets, and there may not be a club willing to pay c.£25m for a bench warmer.
Footballing ability, Dennis is far better than Cornet. The only reason I can think of that prompted Everton and Forrest to backoff eventually is his attitude. I think most teams were impressed with his performance in the first half of the season, but they noticed how his form nosedived after he was prevented from joining the Nigerian team for the Afcon. So they feel he is unpredictable and can be difficult to manage. So they don't want to take the risk. The good news for me is, Dennis seems to be happy here and is not desperate for a move which is a real shock to me considering we are playing in the Championship and not in the EPL. Whether that is down to him having a good relationship with the new manager or he feels at home here having the likes of Ekong, Kalu, Okoye and possibly TDB around, I say we should keep him and get the best out of him this season. Remember, no Afcon this year, no Afcon next year, so if no one takes his seat in the coach, his goals will take us back to the EPL, and his value also increases from the 20m we currently wants for him. This idea that Dennis has a bad attitude is a myth based on some anecdote in Belgium where he wanted to sit on a specific seat. He gave 100% in every game for us even when we were already down.
He got fined and left out of the squad for something, not sure why it suddenly now gets touted around as myth: Manager Philippe Clement confirmed Dennis will play no part against BVB this time around, with the German giants thrashing the Belgian club 3-0 last time out. “He is fit, but he is not in the selection against Dortmund,” Clement said. “Dennis has broken some of the club’s rules. That is the only reason. I will not elaborate on his situation further”.
I mean, he’s specifically been sidelined by his 2 previous clubs and his former International manager, who have all cited his attitude - so hardly ‘myths’ that are passed off as humorous anecdotes. I largely agree with you about the effort he has put in with us though and he has seemed perfectly happy. A few murmurs from last season about his teammates being frustrated with him playing for himself first and the team second under Hodgson - but given Gosling’s comments, Hodgson’s attitude and the ridiculous efforts the team put in, not sure I blame him for trying to do it himself!
I do think he continued to give 100%, but I also think he had a tendency to play for himself rather than the team on occasion.
I agree with you about his commitment, but trust me, he has issues with his attitude. But for him not to try and force a move after our relegation from the EPL and him been happy to stay around is a big shock to me and I think he possibly has been working on his attitude. This might just be me, but if I’m earning decent money either way (not sure what relegation clause Dennis has) I would rather score 25 goals against weaker opposition than struggle to 10 against tough opponents. I used to love it when my 5 aside team got relegated. Maybe that’s why I’m not a footballer.
I think when Pedro replaced King in the second half of the season, it affected Dennis game. In the first half of the season, he, King and Sarr were all creating chances for each other. But in the second half of the season, Sarr was a minus in our attack and Pedro on the other hand isn't clinical in front of goal and most times he will rather want to dribble past all the defenders (which weirdly is the reason why most people rate him) before passing the ball to someone else who is in a better position to score but unfortunately by the time he pass the ball, it's already too late and the chance is gone. Dennis is human after all, he probably eventually felt like if we are to survive, sometimes he might have to do the attacking all alone. I think that explains why he was selfish at times in the second half of the season. Recently, I watched a replay of our match against Chelsea at the Vic and I really felt for Dennis afterward. Yes he scored a goal that might look simple at first, but on a second look, it will take a really top player to score that sort of goal, but that isn't the point, and again I noticed how he easily get past Rudiger (who I personally rated as the best CB in the league for the past two seasons followed by Van dijk) which was unusual because I rarely see a player make a mess of Rudiger, but still that ain't the point, what struck me was from the start of the game, Chelsea love to play from the back, but Dennis made it hard for them on the night with his pressing, he was always chasing down every Chelsea defender that has the ball to the extent that I was so worried about him getting exhausted because he looked so determined as if that game will decide our EPL status. Through his consistent pressing he was able to force errors from the Chelsea defenders but unfortunately we didn't capitalize on those chances to score. But the moment that really touched me was that time he was chasing down the Chelsea defenders who has the ball, but that time, they were able to pass the ball around and away from him successfully and Dennis looked behind hoping for support from our team and he noticed King and Pedro were not even willing to follow his lead to join with the pressing and he got frustrated and utter some words angrily at them. A lot of thoughts could have gone through his head at that moment like, is he a big fish in a small pond? Is he the only one who desperately want all three points? Is he the only one who is desperate for the team to survive relegation? Whatever he thought at that moment, if he is happy to play for us in the championship and we get promoted, he will go down as my favorite player that has ever played for us. He really is such an underrated player! Sent from my TECNO P701 using Tapatalk
