I mean if they can get him motivated and playing would be a start for them

Cannot see Dennis going there .

Someone said they could get him on loan - no chance !

Lots of clubs have done what Notts Forest are doing and failed miserably. Can only see this going the same way. Spending significant money on transfers and wages without actually signing too much quality.

Going to be a huge shock to the faithful that turn up week in, week out. I'm sure they will enjoy the season.

Very inconsiderate of all these clubs to take ages weighing up whether to buy him and Sarr. Don't they know we've got hopes of reinvestment to get up and then have dashed.

Can't see many clubs being interested in Sarr. No good having ability if your not prepared to put in a reasonable effort whilst on the pitch. Dennis does at least give his all and I hope he stays.

Neither will stay. If a player won’t sign a new deal then Gino will throw a strop and banish them to the stands, but with players like Dennis and Sarr they have intrinsic value, so he is clever enough to know in order to maximise their value the illusion that he doesn’t have to sell and that they’re being integrated into the squad will help him achieve the best price he can. We saw it with the likes of Suares, came back to the club to take part in pre-season but as soon as somebody offered a decent price he was gone in an instant, in fact he was pictured with his new club before we knew he’d been sold.

I think they will. The manager is good, the team looks healthy and all of their signings are talented enough to start yet have plenty more to develop.

I'll be honest I'm incredibly jealous.

Think NF, Muff & Brentford will come down. Maybe Soton or CP as an outside bet.

With Cooper, I reckon NF will be this seasons Brentford. They’ll have enough that’s different about them to catch teams out. Think Bournemouth will finish bottom with Parker as manager.

So which 2 others to be relegated ? Sorry if you've already said earlier in the thread.

I wouldnt rule Everton out. They only stayed up last season because there where 3 teams worse then them and the performances from Richarlison. Well Richarlison has gone, the only incoming has been an aging Tarkowski, Lampard far from impressed last season and I'm not sure there are 3 worse teams this season.

Agreed Brentford wont do as well and Erikson was a big part of why they did so well last season. Soton seem to be one of those teams that always struggle but have just enough to stay clear of the bottom 3. It will catchup with them eventually

I don’t know, I just think NF will stay up and Bournemouth will go down. Fulham are unpredictable and could go either way, wouldn’t want to bet on them staying up or going down. Brentford could struggle like Sheffield Utd did but they’ve made some decent signings and were well clear of the drop at the point Eriksen joined, so could easily have enough to stay up again.

Leicester could be this years Everton as they’ve signed nobody yet.

Forest will stay up as they are the media darlings the way Brentford and Bournemouth have been in the past. I would love to see Forest, Leeds and Everton go down

I'm still slightly in shock that we're in a lower division than them, I don't remember a time following football where that's been the case!

Yes in the earlier 78-80 ish era. Was thinking more of the later players around close to a19tgg’s PVH reference.

Forest circa 77 to 80 were excellent - if you can find some of their games from that time on youtube you should watch them. I recall an away win at Man Utd when they put 4 past them all classic goals on the break

I doubt the manager will last the season. Realistically all the promoted clubs will be in the relegation mix with teams like Southampton, Brighton,Crystal palace, Leeds, Brentford, etc

You can chuck in as well Peter Shilton, Viv Anderson, John McGovern and Peter Withe.

Mind you the old first division was in those days a walk in the park, full of lower league teams; QPR, Bristol City, Derby County, Birmingham, Norwich, WBA, Ipswich Town. Even Everton finished in the top four.

There is always a team that bucks the trend, us and Bournemouth first time round, Sheffield Utd, Leeds, Brentford. Cooper has demonstrated himself to be an excellent manager and they’re making some decent signings. Look how many managers NF churned though and how long they were in the championship, then he takes over with the bottom and gets them up first time.

Not at same level but they were pretty good all the way up to late 80s if I remember. Great at getting lower league players and assimilating them into the team.

Like Boothroyd did! A one season wonder. Although our recruitment was poor after that promotion. And so far Forest have spent >£60 million, so surviving will be the minimum expectation. That level of investment can also create pressure, greater than mobilising an underperforming squad.

At this stage I think it’s a genuine unknown if Forest will do well, average or badly. Fulham invested heavily after Jokanovic got them promotion and that ended in disaster. Forest could do well up to the World Cup break and then again they could get into a run of poor form and unable to dig themselves out. I think that happened to Reading, great season into Christmas - relegated by early April.

its unlikely all the promoted teams will get relegated in their first season, but it’s extremely likely at least one will, and most will be relegated within eight seasons (unless bought by an oil rich national investment group).

Anyway it’s annoying that we miss out on away matches at Forest and Derby this season, and probably will again next.

Didn’t Forest break the transfer record on numerous times (Burns, Shilton), including the first £million player Francis and spent another £million on Justin Fashanu?

let’s hope they continue that history and splash a lot more and spend £20 million on Dennis!

Yes that’s true. I was thinking about all the players like Garry Parker, Crosby, Keane, Webb, Pearce, Foster, Laws etc who all did really well late 80s. (Some of these might have been 90s to be honest).

Pearce was certainly a coup, as was Keane. Foster was from a lower division, but Webb was £250,000, Parker was more, so both a fair investment in mid 1980s and wasn’t Laws already a top division player with Middlesbrough?

like most clubs for every flop there will be a great piece of recruitment.
