Gang of mates roll out of a pub, see e-scooters and the shenanigans begin.

One of my folk's neighbours has run one over, which is a good start. No lasting injuries thankfully.

Dashcam footage shows them scooting like an arse and completely at fault. Insurance company are likely to persue them for car damage repair costs.

Don’t necessarily have an issue with them, but there was one the road near me the other day, at night with no lights on, on a two lane one way system. Stupidly dangerous.

Also seem some videos of some doing over 40mph plus in bike lanes in London which is obviously highly dangerous.

The fact that anyone with a drivers licence can hire one of these in a city centre with no prior experience is going to cause accidents.
If you've never ridden a scooter it is very different to driving a car.
    And they go quite fast.
I had a quick hire of one in Cambridge recently, realised I was well out of my depth and promptly stopped. Many I suspect wouldn't.

Theyll be a scandal about a a young child being killed soon and then they will crack down.

This evening I was driving along Leavesden Road behind one, no helmet, black clothing, no lights, no reflectors, it's as if the rider had a death wish

40mph! I rode one capped at 18mph and it was absolutely terrifying

See that, or rather don’t see that very well, often. Absolutely nuts.

Told one lad off for it. He complained he hadn’t done anything wrong, so I explained that he actually had, but my bigger concern was the absolute peril he was putting himself in. He told me he’d get some lights.

It's not just e-scooters, most of the young cyclists around here don't wear helmets or have lights. It's not cool you see. And, despite your best intentions, having an old bloke moan at them ain't going to convince them that it is.

Perhaps it's a Darwinian natural selection thing and we should just let them get on with it or even actively run them down on sight.

I think I'm the only person left in the UK who's never "nearly been knocked over" by a scooter.

You are surprised I’m an ageing do-gooding busybody? I’m disappointed at your lack of attention.

The parents surprise me in this. Not all young nighttime cyclists and scooter riders are running county lines. Most have parents who probably do their homework with them and make them eat five portions of fruit and veg a day.

And then let them go out on a machine in the dark, dressed in black, with no lights or helmet.

Sort it out Mum and Dad.

I just wasn't sure if you'd gone public with it is all.

They literally ride with their helmets hanging from their handlebars around here.

I'm sure most parents moan about all the other kids and are thankful that their little darlings aren't as stupid. But watching them cycle away with helmet on doesn't mean it stays on once they meet the power of peer pressure I'm afraid.
