It’s behind a paywall, but a report on the Dailey Telegraph website says that attendance at public gatherings of 20,000 or more will require all attendees to prove they have received two Covid 19 vaccinations.

Sounds like a recipe for chaos. How would you prove it? At the point of sale or entrance to a match.

Guess you would take your Vaccine certificate ?

Most adults have had 2 jabs anyway I think.

    And obviously kids won't count.

Guess its that or vaccine passports.

What is the situation with away fans?

Watford can't even get a very basic ticket app to work after 18 months of no fans, can't see how they'd ever get to the point where we could enter proof of our vaccine certifcates whilst booking a ticket.

Can’t see us getting 20,000 fans so probably won’t affect us.

Well it will for those who like going to away matches. As all premier league home matches are “sold out”, at 21,000 capacity apparently it would apply to Vicarage road too.

Wouldn't you have to buy it on the official club /premiership app (which also cuts out touts/hooligans etc) which would have to be linked to the NHS app? Sounds like the way they'd want to enforce it.

I hope that makes some sort of sense

You prove it on the NHS app.

Which is not the test and trace one.

Ok that’s sensible as that the one that lists your vaccination record/type of vaccine/batch.

As the threshold is so close to capacity, couldn’t Watford restrict total ticket sales to 19,999? It would only mean selling slightly fewer primarily to away fans.

With all the work the club has done with the NHS I’m not sure trying circumvent rules around vaccinations would be a good look would it?

I agree. I think my point is that 20,000 is a totally arbitrary figure. That number at Vicarage Road is very different to the same number at Old Trafford. If they’re going to do it, just make it all PL games.

It's not "circumventing rules" ? It's sticking strictly to the rules ? However on the subject of circumventing, there must be a Pozzo loophole ...."a poophole" if you like ?

I’m not sure what else lying about, or deliberately changing the capacity of the stadium so that people can attend without being double vaxed could be described as.

But there's plenty of clubs below the PL that will have +20k attendances for a home game. Would be silly to only apply the rules to PL games while, say, Sunderland have 30k without a Covid pass being required.

Everyone should be made to show the two injection marks on their upper arm. It's the only way to do this properly.

The rule is that >20k requires double vaccination. If attendances are below that it's not required. To comply with the rule and for safety reasons, we keep attendances below 20k ?

  23. a19tgg

But our ground has a capacity of 22,200, so by limiting our attendance we would be circumventing then rule that would require everyone to be double vaxed if we didn’t.

It would be entirely pointless though, why would the club do it? The only reason they would is if they thought it would affect attendances, but loosing 2k seats is roughly £2m revenue per year, so it seems a fairly pointless move to reduce attendance to try and save it, when it probably won’t affect it that much in the first place

People might be more likely to actually want to come if they know others there have been vaccinated.

We might end up avoiding having a drop in demand, while also making transmission less likely and helping fans' health outcomes.

As I've recently found out myself, the delta variant is more easily transmissible.

    Everything wrong with football?

If you had 19999 just to circumvent, many would then decide to skip the covid super spreading event and we would have about 16k attend.

However I know for a fact some people borrowed a printed out code from others to attend sporting events recently. And "out of date" passes were accepted at the gates. Nothing is done electronically because watfords ticketing system does not talk to the NHS covid app and if it did would be against GDPR. So you just have to show phone or print out which is easy to fool.

Dear Lord what a world we live in…..having to show your health record to go to a game of footie……although anyone going to the Vic on a regular basis is clearly insane

And those fans who cheat the system aren't welcome. In fact, **** those Watford fans who'd do that. Yet another nail in the myth of being the 'original family club'.

I don't know what the fuss is about. I'd be happy for the match day stewards to have access to my full medical history - even the embarrassing infections I went through a stage of picking up in my early 20s

There is no way the current proposals would get through in their current form. They would at the very least have to also include the option for a recent negative test also for example

I suspect this whole thing is just the latest PR move form the government to try and increase vaccine uptake and they have very little appetite to fight the necessary legal battles to actually implement something like this

  31. UEA_Hornet

They have a majority of 80 in the Commons. If Labour break in favour of it - and there's no guarantee of that - it would be implemented. The legal battles would be for those who want rid of it.

  32. Keighley

I'd say it is unlikely to get through if Labour opposes it. There are more than enough disgruntled Tory backbenchers.

  33. IRB

IRB THe artist formally know as ImRonBurgundy?

Labour, Lib Dems and Tory rebels already saying they’ll vote it down

It’s possible they can’t still get it through due to their giant majority (Thanks a lot Corbyn…) but it would be close

  34. What's the problem here? As long as all adults have been offered two jabs then why should there be a problem with everyone over 18 being required to show their vaccine certification to attend a football match or a nightclub or get on a plane to Majorca?

If you don't want to play ball and be a team player then nobody is gonna strap you to a bench and stick a needle in your arm. But your forfeit will be not to be able to enjoy yourself much any more so you can sit around at home and mope until you've wised up then rather than invent schemes to limit attendances at the Vic. or beat up stewards and gatecrash.

This is a 102 year pandemic. A lot of young people don't seem to realise how significant that is. Like playing at Wembley in a major final for the first time in 66 years. Despite being the age cohort that has suffered most over the last 16 months with, mostly, notable perseverance. So serious stuff then. Doesn't come around often.

Please don't complain that this would be 'discrimatory'. Of course it would be. You can't drive a car without a licence either.

  35. This is new - Tory berating Corbyn for enabling huge Tory majority.
