Yes but that's quite unusual and you're not quite comparing apples with apples are you ? We are no Chelsea..... No-one is writing him off but for the record fee paid weren't we all expecting he would be able to go straight into the team and make a real impact pretty quickly ? I know I was. Otherwise what was all the wild excitement about the day we learned we'd actually signed him ?
We aren't indeed Chelsea, but he's Chelseas 2nd most expensive player ever so it was pretty comparable in terms of "record fee". I think we were yes, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that people (me included) hadn't taken into account the he'd need time to integrate etc (which often varies player by player) You mean people on here aren't balanced in their views and go wildly one way or another depending on what's happening at that current time without looking long-term?
Fornals, Kean and Saint-Maximin have had fairly similar experiences at similar fees for West Ham, Everton and Newcastle respectively. Pepe was also Arsenal's record transfer.
Yes and I agree it's a lot of money for Chelsea to spend on a player and then not use him but they are spending from almost bottomless pit. For us to spend that sum of money on one player meant we had very limited funds to spend in strengthening the squad elsewhere. They may have been making a few panic buys before the ban came into play, plus of course he was bought under the previous manager. Hopefully he soon delivers what the recruitment boys expected.
Given the fact Gray is useless when starting, and Deeney is injured, I wish we'd just play Sarr for 5 games on the bounce to give him a chance to acclimatise. Things can't go much worse.
Wenger once said he thinks it can take foreign players a season or more to adjust to the Prem. That has certainly seemed to be true for a number of players.
I think it's fair to say he wasn't going be the answer to all our problems. As a young player coming to a different country and league . Do think some on Twitter expected a mini Messi though ! The hype on there was massive .
Must say looks like a genius bit of business giving this guy 15 minutes action then getting rid of him. Scored an overhead kick today to add to a really good solo goal last weekend. Still, at least we paid nearly twice as much for Sarr...
Still think he could have been useful, especially now, given how well he did as a lone/loan striker last year.
