Sorely needed but that's the one thing Tom the Tinker hasn't experimented with yet on his learning journey...

@reids i hope you’re well. I know you’re busy prepping Preston’s set pieces lol but I have appreciated your full footage links. Got a bit of time to myself this very Monday evening, and some ale, and love watching Watford win without the nerves. Just saying. And thanks again. And it’s ok to let TC know what you’ve told Preston. Hornet loyalty trumps professionalism.

edit: sorry to use the word trumps on this sad day for humanity

The ‘full footage drop box’ is my favourite reids manoeuvre.

I always believed that behind the attitude, there was a very, good player.

Sounds like something someone who works for Preston would say to me. Suspicious.

Is anyone somehow able to generate a clip of Sieraltas gloriously nonchelant foul near the end of the match? Tired, knew he wouldnt possibly catch the player goijg past on the outside of the penalty box, he gave the most absurdly blatant professional foul. Was a textbook yellow card. Was funnier than watching Derby try and hit the woodwork over and over!

Sadly not working with any English club this season, come very close with a fair few Championship teams, but sadly not been able to get any over the line

Their sub was causing (our sub) Andrews all sorts of problems and it was a “necessary” foul to prevent him getting into the box. In fact the foul caused the guy to have a few minutes treatment which the ref appeared not to add on at the end added to which he was limping when he came back on and completely out of it.

One of their players appeared to throw their hands up in the air in disgust when he sat on the floor just outside the penalty box. Same player then proceeded to point at their wrist to the ref as though it was us time wasting. Ref added on a bit but the foul to them taking the free kick took nearly the whole 4 minutes and I'd say only a quarter of that was added on!

Did they say why ? ££££, experience, WFC fan ?

Bit of a mix really, came close with 4 clubs:

    - One I was working with last season that was £££ focused (their new technical director felt the work could be done internally - the coaching staff very much disagreed with him on that so guess it was down to £££ instead).
    - One hired a new coach instead to try and fix their SP issues.
    - One they felt more voices on the set-piece front wasn't gonna be helpful as the coaches already weren't taking advice given from analysts/companies etc but said they'd love to hire me in the future.
    - One the manager had a sudden change of heart (seemed to really like the sample report I sent and wanted to meet ASAP but then completely 180'ed within 24 hours).

None due to experience (I'm one of the most experienced SP specialists in the game now!) or quality of work (not overly surprised on this considering I've turned down jobs in the PL recently - including a top 4 PL team in the summer!) which is a good sign at least!

Thanks, interesting to hear. SPs are so key at both ends of the pitch I'd have thought it would be essential for all prem & champ clubs to have such expertise inhouse or available on a recurring consultancy basis.

What are your thoughts on our corners? Has been a constant source of frustration for me for a couple of reasons:

    1. Chakvetadze is very bad at corners but if he starts, he takes them.
    2. We seem to have favoured inswingers that are aimed right down the keeper's throat (trying to replicate Kayembe on the first day perhaps?) but our starting position is to pack the box with all our aerial threats which just leads to a series of wrestling matches as people try to get the leverage to outjump the opponent from a standing start. This inevitably ends up with it being headed away at the near post because delivery is too flat, a free kick being given against us or, very occasionally, the keeper having to paw it away from under the bar which looks like it's dangerous but in reality was never going to go in. We seem to have next to no movement or make any attempt to get a runner free for a header.

Are there any stats about how often we create a chance from a corner or win the first contact vs the rest of the league? Do the stats back up my eyes or am I just a miserable git who only remembers the crap corners?

It had me giggling in the stand too! Sierralta, who had a far better game than some of his efforts recently, as you say just ambled into position making sure he was sufficiently outside the box to avoid a Portsmouth-type penalty and dead-legged that dangerous winger who had come on as a sub. His face was a picture, he didn't even smirk. There was no attempt, like most players, of trying to pretend he was trying to tackle the fella, he might as well have reached into the ref's pocket and brandished the card at himself. Absolutely priceless yellow card, utterly hilarious!

Didn't think Chakvetadze would be quite that bad! Madness to keep him on them, Louza should just take them from both sides.

Shame, there were several of us who could see what our Chilean friend was about to do and the fact that he carried out his assault so well with no fuss just had a number of us laughing.
