My level of disgust in Flores to not give him and Forestieri a chance in the PL will never recede.

Never did I imagine Αριστοτέλης and Deeney mentioned together!

Yes primarily because he wanted to play one not two in the middle. 5 mins later he’d changed his mind when Ighalo started banging them in but Vydra (who’d have been a great sub/alternative) was already out.
There has been a suggestion that we let him go too soon IIRC.

I'm pretty sure this is treading the path of Carlos' recent oeuvre, that being 'AI-generated posts', so I think you're going to have to put that excitable award back on ice.

Was already aware that this 'written into his contract he had to take over and it came too early' thing was the supposed explanation for that FGR car crash, but I have to say, as a political non-Dale-Vince-frother in the slightest, watching him talk about it in that manner makes him seem like a flighty idiot who has no idea what's going on in his own business. The way he discusses it makes him appear as non-serious as anything else, unfortunately.

Glad to see the forum finally came round to my way of thinking about Troy!! In my opinion it took the Cleverley era to reset the club after we got Deeneyed. Sad to see Tom go but the work experience he got was worth its weight in gold as was the way he reset the club. Sadly Gino's probably right about needing a more experienced manager to push on and I was happy to hear him say he wants to keep the squad together.
Considering the financial apocalypse we appeared to be heading towards seems to have been avoided and we still have the stadium and the badge plus a young talented squad, I'd say things are looking pretty good. After all, our natural position in the order of things is mid table champo. Great to have TC as manager but it was unlikely he was gonna build an empire in his first job. Im glad Gino kept him for the whole season.

I predict Gino will now go 'cojones out, cojones deep' with the recruitment this summer and to be honest I'm just glad we still have a football club after being so royally pozzod, deeneyed and duxburied over the last 15 years - im aching all over but there were some very good times.

Maybe my mood is lightened by the fact that as a Botafoguense of 24 years seeing them win serie A for the 1st time in 29 years and the libertadores in the space of 10 days then beating PSG in the CWC, this year has been my 3rd best ever in football (after '99 and '06) or maybe it's cos #61 is still visible in the rear view mirror. Whatever, its a great time to be a hornet and next season should be a goodun. We just have accept our owner is demented, of questionable moral virtue and desperate to get us back in the prem. It could be worse.

Well we certainly do miss a peak Troy Deeney as a leader or striker on the pitch .

I mean his replacement was Daniel Bachmann in reality even though others took the armband.

Gino expects a promotion push which is why Cleverley went .

We’ll see if the new guy is given the tools to match the Pozzo expectations.

Yup, peak Deeney was one of our best ever players. He shouldve left on a high after the cup final. TC was the anti-Deeney and a good human being. We owe him a big debt of gratitude for bringing so many good things back to the club.

Gino will probably pick the wrong man for the job and bizarrely fail to strengthen the most obvious position that needs strengthening, then spend 7 figures on a striker with one goal in a friendly against a team of rabbits.

It's gonna be very entertaining watching Gino's increasingly demented attempts to get back in the prem when a lot of fans are happy just to be competitive in the champo.

The one gutting thing is seeing pretty much a whole team of ex watford players continuing to thrive in the Prem long after we were gone:

Estupinan, Dawson, Ake, Young, Hughes, Doucoure, Richarlison, Joao Pedro, Sarr, Welbeck
    That was nearly us!

It must really keep Gino up at night. He found the players but he couldn't make it work due to his own personality flaws and demented management style.

Gino needs to find a manager who can build an empire for him long term. Unfortunately, he's very obviously not capable of doing that.

To give him his dues Gino is the 2nd most sucessful owner in our history, signed a lot of the best players ever to play for the club and tarted up the stadium magnificently. That he apparantly did all this without bankrupting the club is a godsend in my opinion.

If he can make a small town championship club competitive and financially sustainable he's done a top job in my opinion. Time will tell if this is really the case.

Haven't people been calling out Deeney for years, even when he was still playing for us?

If I remember rightly, the distinction is between those of us who used to call him out for his attitude, fitness and possible overbearing role in the club hierarchy, and Gasm's view of him as Svengali-esque criminal mastermind who insidiously plotted the downfall of the club as part of his bid for world domination and the eventual blackmailing of the world's government to the tune of a cool one million dollars.

I got an enormous amount of online abuse for calling out Deeney for what he was. He was dividing opinion at the time. Now its pretty obvious to most fans what type of person he is and the impact he had on the club in his final years. Its good to see people have woken up to that, it sure took a while.
