Man, I just don’t know whether I believe anything he says anymore. I’m sure there is probably some element of truth to it, but this is the sort of story that you can typically imagine him bigging himself up in.

 

I like the image of Xisco fizzing around waving his arms while all this is going on

 

Absolute whopper.

 

He has become deeply embarrassing in his attempts to play the hard man.
It's such a shame because as a player he was an absolute hero for many of us for many years. Every time his name comes up now, you just know it's going to be something pathetic.

 

I think that because of the estate he grew up in and the stepfather has affected his psyche, he does say in his book that the stepfather always encouraged him to never show weakness; what you and I may call weakness will be different in his mind. But it is clear that he needs some sort of therapy and media training if he wants to go down this avenue.

 

It is undendingly pathetic - imagine deciding to tell that story in a neverending, desperate search for clout/reputation, and not realising it does nothing other than make you come across as an incredibly unprofessional thug, still unable to control yourself at the slightest imagined provocation; all those years after you supposedly reformed having been imprisoned for kicking a prone student in the head during a fight in a nightclub.

Another element I would highlight is this quote:

I'd love to know what actually transpired here and how much he's embellished it. Same goes for the whole speed ramp story.

Just comes across as a bit of an oddball really.

 

Crucial context missing in his telling of the story is that he was miles off the player he'd once been by this stage. No doubt Watford hierarchy play some naughty tricks but it made perfectly good business sense to try and get him off the wage bill - just as it did for him to negotiate up his deal when he was at his most valuable in 2016.

He makes 2020/21 promotion sound like it was something that happened despite his injury, whereas the truth is it happened because of his injury.

 

When all is said and done, if I was being held against my will at the Nakatomi Christmas bash I would still rather pin my hopes on Troy running around in a vest than Bayo or Jebbison.

 

Fabbrini would flatten him.

 

This is where you would be ultimately disappointed, I suspect

 

Brilliant from Troy admitting to assault.

He may be the hardest bloke to ever grace the Watford FC car park, but it barely makes up for the pure level of genius that’s crammed into that ever expansive dome of his.

It really does shock me that he failed as a manager.. Who wouldn’t want to run through walls for the “man” that booted a kid in the head, cheated on his Mrs, assaulted his Football Director, throwing out his massive ego on random podcasts, all the while continuing to going out on massive benders with his chavvy Brummy mates.

Whilst I have absolutely no doubts at all that Deeney is hamming this up - I also have no doubts at all that Giaretta very likely did behave as he did.

It’s nuts that we we have operated for years thinking this was a good way to run things on the training pitches.

 

So aside from the Guy Ritchie film style testosterone fest, did Giaretta basically tell Xisco that he had to drop Deeney and he did?

 

Most of us on here would have told Xisco to drop him.

 

Was waiting for the bit where he rips his own trousers off and turns green.

My biggest take from this story was that the manager doesn't have sole responsibility of picking the team. I heard just as much from a club employee at the time.

 

If I was, I wonder what it was called. The Incredible Bulk?

 

He really is just such an insufferable kn*b head.

 

My hope for Troy is that he just desperately wants to maintain his media career, so plays the game and carries out a sort of Katie Hopkins role and spouts **** to remain relevant and get clicks. That in itself would still make him a complete ***, but not as much as if he’s actually telling the truth about these things.

 

I think we have pretty much known that for years - and I think until a manager has been a club for a long while and can assert authority, it’s similar at other clubs, given the short shelf-life of managers/coaches now.

Most clubs have various roles above the Head Coach identifying and buying players - so was always going to filter into a situation where it happens.

That said, I don’t think it excuses us because we seem to have done it to the extreme and with people not really that qualified to do it.

 

I'd like to think Xisco was just called over to tell him Doris had chicken on for lunch, then thought heres my opportunity and went over to Troy , took his bib and told him to say nothing and just go home.
Make it look like it was Giarettas doing.

We will never know, but it sounds like Troy has made this up. It does seem that Deeney has to play up to his fake tough guy image or, if he isn't simply lying, exaggerate the truth about things that he has or has not experienced, as this keeps him relevant and gets him jobs on the radio or podcasts.

 

He's a complete fantasist which makes his interviews/podcasts quite interesting to listen to but also means you have to take the whole lot with a massive pinch of salt. He forgets what he says from one to the next.

A player that was brilliant for us in the Championship, passable in the Premier League for a couple of seasons, then became a massive milestone around our necks as his performance steadily declined but his status and wage didn't. Huge shame he didn't believe in himself more as a footballer as at his best he was a very good finisher and creator. Bulking up as he thought the only way he could make an impact in the Premier League was to win the physical battle rather than relying on his footballing brain/ability was a huge error. It's most laughable when he talks about how he would bully opposition centre backs - happened a handful of times in the PL but the vast majority of games he played, it was the centre backs' easiest game of the season - a bloke that never runs in the channels, can't dribble, wasn't that good in the air.

He also talks about himself as though he was the model professional and the glue that kept the club together but then lays out in detail how unprofessional he was throughout his time at the club. All in all, he's a pretty weird bloke, insecurity seems to be a major part of his character but fair play to him, he's carved out a post playing career in the media and has made more money than most of us can dream of. Can't see him ever managing another club unless a crazy owner wants to shake things up though.
