    Hint #1

Hint #2 - This was edited just over an hour later because PowerJugs liked it; the text wasn't changed and was uncontroversial, I had originally quoted Meh!'s post #50 and Miked's post #56; because Miked liked it I was reasonably confident that he as least got the impression that Meh was beta.

Anyone played Mafia? Is there much difference between it and Werewolf ?

Seem to remember a game where team evil won without losing anyone and without the help of a traitor. Eh Cthulhu? *cough cough*
That said, I'm not going to pretend I would have been much help to team good today. I had Norway, PO, Meh! And miked pegged as having "special" roles. Called it completely wrong, thinking Norway & PO were evil. Second guess of Meh! and miked were right but had no clue that Otter was the traitor.
Out of interest, mike, why did you kill me on night 2? I was surprised as I was the first to earmark Squibba wrongly as suspicious, so thought I would be under scrutiny myself the next day.

Well done team evil - very well played - and thanks Harrow & Opti for running and writing up a great game. Makes such a difference with early messages & active players

    Such a dream team.

We've both been wolves in two games and have never been killed.

You were the only person to really accuse me in the game, until it became quite obvious at the end. So fair play to you.

I had to try and make your accusations sound desperate, and wait a few days to kill you when the spotlight was on me less. It's a good job you didn't mention me as the one you were suspicious of yesterday.

It was such a random spot, that I thought you might be the witness until a couple of days ago.

I was sure that it was the tinker too by his reaction to Squibba being innocent.

After DR was so happy and easy going about being killed the day before, you could really notice his panic the day after. His... 'wait for the surprise' to then plead innocenct made me sure it was genuine. He basically created the target for his own back.

That bit was my favourite part of the entire game, as I could simultaneously condemn DR by the timing of the message, whilst implicating PO with the words. I was very proud of that one.

Cheers mate. Most of all I wanted to keep it a fun game. So I did early messages (which people say help team good - although maybe that's a myth) and didn't go for standard message options.

Sorry diamond. I decided to kill you about an hour into the first game, when you gave a sensible response that the poem was likely from the seer.

It wasn't something an evil player would say, and I wasn't going to let team good have your experience.

It did help that you posted early, I think games where the wolf posts early can be more entertaining whereas games where the wolf doesn't post in the first couple of days means the game can drag and people lose interest.

Additionally, my role was made a lot easier by the fact that neither the wolves nor me were viewed by the seer until today but it was too late as we'd got through to today with 6 good and 3 evil. I knew that if we lynched PO that I could make myself known once over the line to finish the game off.

You were sensible and people were listening to you, especially about the seer naming good players. You're a good adversary.

You said something very quickly again about the poem. I think the poem for some reason meant that people let their guards down slightly by revealing their genuine opinions, and allowed me to take advantage.

I killed a few players who might have been targets the next day. You and WAS off the top of my head, but maybe more. It was a risky tactic, but I always felt comfortable that I was far from being viewed, and felt it was a bigger risk to keep you in the game.

Regarding the poem, I remember poems from a couple of years ago and checked, I saw it was Meh so I kept quiet. Squibba pointed it out on day two, but luckily he was eaten that day without anyone batting an eyelid.

  12. Meh!

    Meh! Pre-Dictator

Agreed about the messages. Perhaps it should be made a rule, all messages by 1pm or something.

Regarding none of us being viewed, the game I moderated at Christmas saw Squibba go through about 6 or 7 days of always picking a good. I felt quite sorry for them in the end!

So my take on it all.

It's a pretty lonely business being the Beta wolf. Unless the traitor does make himself known (and I didn't pick up on any of your clues whatsoever Otter) then you are pretty much a on your own - a "lone wolf" as it were!

The Alpha is sending messages so has a lot of control over the flow of the game.

The Traitor is a really fun role and you can really be a gremlin, knowing who the wolves both are and probably getting an early indication of whose messages are whose.

The Seer again can message and has the whole of team good on their side.

The masons all know each other.

And the good villagers are in the majority and have fun trying to work it all out.

And as for the harlot. Geez!

The beta wolf - you have no control over messages. You don't know who is sending each of the messages straight away. You don't have any real allies. You are guessing at everything. It's a great special role to be, but I think one of the hardest to play and you are on your own a lot trying to work things out with not a lot to go on.

Do you message a lot or a little? Do you go for the obvious kill in the vain hope that the Alpha may also and you meet, or the obscure just to reduce the villagers, but maybe getting the alpha or the traitor by mistake? You point the finger and you're in the spotlight. You follow others and you're accused of not making any real opinion.

I guess maybe the key part of a beta for the first few days is literally self preservation. Don't be lynched and don't go for or be gone for by Alpha and see what you can pick up. "Live long enough not to be killed and take as many of the others out in the meantime." (In my head I read that in a Bruce Willis Sin City voice).

    So what did I do.

I thought I messaged quite lot. A lot more than others so thought I'd be off the radar, which I seemed to be for most. If I hadn't been viewed by Norway then I think I'd still have got through day 6 without any suspicion.

    Kill selections:

First night - Powerjugs (sorry about the turd - Phelps - you're my bro so felt bad you took the rap). Could have been anyone to be honest. So - he was out!!! WTF??? First time this had ever happened. No idea what to think.

Second night - Powerjugs. I wanted to see if it was a 1 night only deal. I thought he was either maybe blessed by someone who was a priest, or had the amulet. I think I posted that on day 2. It wasn't until late that someone threw Harlot into the mix and I'd either already emailed my kill or at least already made my mind up to go for him again. A shaky start according to Harrow - but I thought it was worth it and we did establish that it was permanent so that maybe helped us a little.

Third night - Screw you Powerjugs. Went for CB as had been named as good in a previous message. Seemed simple and got lucky that he was what we now know to be the guardian. But the forth morning I'm sure me and Mike were overjoyed that 2 very good had gone.

Forth night - Opti. He had no chance. Definitely good. I was hoping Alpha would also go for him so we would see each other and would have a massive advantage for the rest of the game. Mike had other plans.

Fifth night - Steve Leo Beleck. Now this was a really, really tough one. I still didn't know who the Alpha was.

I had a plan the night before that if I wasn't named but people started suspecting me, I was going to say I was another new role that I had seen - the Prophet.

    https://werewolf.chat/Prophet

I had pretty much called Cth and DR as possible a tinker role and even though the odds were huge on that being the case, it happened. Therefore, if people started going for me I was going to say I was the Prophet as proved by that insight and by naming 3 or 4 others that I had viewed. May have given me a day or 2's grace at least.

But I was named so obviously declared Norway the traitor straight away and a couple of others did the same. I thought it was 50/50 as to whether people turned on me. Tried to throw 2nd tinker into the mix.

Otter had declared himself the traitor but had earlier suggested it was either 3 evil and 5 good or 2 evil and 6 good. Therefore I thought he may have been another special role that knew all roles and that there perhaps wasn't a traitor at all.

So was he trying to flush me out. Get me to agree with everything and then go "Bazinga Beta - I'm good and you're toast". So I felt I had to keep playing the innocent card right to the end.

Also BRLR was really playing into my hands defending me and going for Norway as the Traitor so I thought if there was a traitor, it could actually be him so why was Otter claiming it?!

Anyway, so I had a choice and chose SLB who had been pretty placid throughout and felt like he had no special role. I was still only probably 65% sure I hadn't got the Alpha.

    Meh!'s thoughts:
A great game and well run by Harrow, and great write up's Opti. Really enjoyed it and the early messages and active play really did make it a lot more interesting than in the past. Mike and I have played Alpha and Beta wolves respectively for 2 games out of the last 3 now (amazing as this was randomly generated - we must be attracted to evil) and we've won both times (though I was a full moon Beta last time). We seem to do well together.

    Meh!s final thought:
Can we take a final moment to mention Norway's loss. It was mentioned during the game and a lot of people passed it off as a trick, so I think we should raise a glass to the loss of a loved pooch. RIP.

Great game. Don't think I got it right once!

You wrote the poem on day one by the way? And why?

And yes RIP Norway's dog, very sorry for doubting you but when you're in the game, anything is possible.

Guys I'm sorry. Its rainy season here and we have had no power since Monday afternoon. It came back in the night.

I had my suspicions early about Miked, mentioned it on Wednesday I think, or Thursday...just wasn't able to follow it through. Team evil did play a good game though, deserved victors.

Thanks for the poochy condolences guys ,
Mike for what it was worth if team good would have left PO alone , his rainy season really hurt team good there,
thus avoiding outing myself ,if i had survived to another viewing you would have been it !
very well played though ,I still hadnt worked out which was alpha and Beta and the traitor (Otter) played an absolute werewolf worldie!

Can I just say that despite being out of the game for most of it I found it showed how far the game has come on this forum since it was introduced quite some time back. Excellent play, messaging, skullduggery and how it was run. Outstanding all round.

Oh yes, one more thing. Harrow, you said to us dead people that there was a scenario that could happen that you wouldn't know how to react to. I know it came close to happening but what was it?

I honestly cant remember. It was something to do with PowerJugs' role. May have been the night where the guardian had been chosen by one of the wolves. If PJ had chosen to stay with the Guardian he would have been eaten too... but Im sure I said to PJ that if he stayed with the Guardian he would be protected. So I got a little confused as to how to play it! Luckily that didn't happen.

    I nearly did! Twice!

I didn't twig for a second throughout the whole game you were a Traitor. You would have either fed me to the wolves or hit me over the head with a shovel.

I kept a vagueish journal with harrow , so that I could let you know my thoughts throughout. I'll post my parts on here in a bit.

Like harrow said, I knew Meh was a special role from day 1, but thought he was good. My mind completely changed though when he voted for Squibba at a defining moment, and then I realised he was the wolf.

A good tip for playing the game is to notice when people vote. That's how I got the first seer.

Norway, I clocked you were the new seer almost instantly, but WAS was throwing threats around and I thought he was the witness (having identified me early). As he didn't mention me, but was clearly insinuating that he was talking about me in the threats, I thought I'd kill him quickly and deal with you the next day.

Meh, I was tempted to go for the easier kill to discover the beta and I saw the beta kept going for them. However I gambled and decided I'd work out who the wolf was later in the game, and it was better to kill two of team good. It was quite risky, but worked out well.

Excellent game by team evil, I think it has only happened once before where three team evil players were alive at the end. I suspected Meh but had no idea on the other two.

The werewolf games on this forum can be quite stressful to run, and would suffer from fatigue if played too regularly however when we do sit down to play every six months or so they are certainly well attended.

I would suggest a couple of changes next game:
    - keep the role of harlot (loved it and it brought a whole different dimension to the game)
    - have a martyr (I like this role as it just means the wolves have to be a little more careful about the villagers they kill)
    - minimum post count for all those who want to play, unfortunately day one was a bit of a write off for team good with Eddie cohen. I would suggest that anyone wanting to play has to meet a minimum post count of 100 posts.

  35. PowerJugs

    Would agree with all this.
