Having just seen the replay now he definitely has the ball held in to his chest when the Macedonian player hits him.
That angle shows it popped out because the of the contact from the striker but if he was in full control of the ball it wouldn't have been able to get away from him regardless.
Yes, a mistake, but the officials could easily have spared his blushes. Obviously wasn't all on him as it was shambolic all round from Austria
I'm having to do this off a river so can't get any more clips, but it seemed pretty clear to me he got both hands on the ball before being hit. The forward goes right through the back of Alaba as well.
Maybe unsurprisingly, but the referee pundit assistant on Austrian TV also supposedly said it should have been a foul.
I clipped the slow mo. Gutted for Bachmann with that goal. The initial borked clearance started it but when he gets there first there's not much reason for it to pop away from him after. Shows it popped out from Bachmann from his chest because the of the contact from the striker but if he was in full control of the ball it wouldn't have been able to get away from him regardless the way it did. 60/40 his fault I'd say as there was plenty others could do before that point. https://streamable.com/q2zcrc
That save will do Bachmann a world of good. Similar scenario to first goal in having to get there first and this time getting it right.
I should have my own game in an hour or so for some 6-a-side. My defence is about as good as Austria's so I'm going to be busy.
Yes, they get the win, and even if they lose their next two games they might scrape through. One more point and they're 99% there, hope Foda sticks with Bachmann, a bad moment for him, but I've seen worse goalkeeping howlers
Had his best match for us against Oxford in only his second game after the Tranmere mistake, and letting one in at his near post against Muff didn't seem to affect him neither, seems a strong character
He got in after the manager didn't trust the first choice (not sure who they are tbh) so does he stick with Dan or bring back the goalie who was dropped so might be be full of confidence? Or rely on another keeper! Wouldn't really be ideal for their defence - this goal happened due to a lack of communication and good play by Padev showing his experience in a way. Most would have just stood there letting Bachmann gather the ball. I don't think we'd expect to see Pickford dumped for example if he did that.
This error proves that he is a million miles away from being good enough. Would be a huge concern if he starts for us in August.
Everyone makes mistakes tbf, what would prove to me that he's not good enough is if he continually makes mistakes, or continually doesn't quite do what other keepers can. Jury is still out, but there are other areas we need improving more
He didn’t let a shot through his legs or drop a cross etc..he made an error that was as much attributable to his defenders as to him..he recovered well thereafter and showed good mental strength..rather he hasn’t made that error obviously but I can’t see anything in his performance today that should worry people too much about him starting next season with Sierralta and TE in front of him.
Yep, goal keepers mistakes tend to be more costly, the Ukrainian keeper just made a bigger mistake not booting the ball out for a throw in. As a result the ball regained by the Dutch who go and score the winner.
Tbf in international football, you're unlikely to have the same kind of understanding you'd have with your club teammates, so replacing him with their #2 wouldn't necessarily cut out those kinds of goals
A funny old game isn't it? Had a great first half, but a decidedly dodgy second half, was probably at fault for 2 of the 3 goals, not much he could have done about the second with Wijnaldum (I think?) just in front of him
Yes - he was a bit unlucky with the first that it went straight to the attacker and he seemed to try and do an awkward save for the winner. The 2nd goal looked offside at first but there was a defender playing the Dutch guy on I think. (Some would say VAR did it's job there!)
I'm not sure if he could palm it away from danger for the first goal, it was a great cross and his defence did him no favours. For the third goal, probably should have saved it, but in any case, get the ball out, don't just pass it casually to the Dutch!
Hard to keep hold of a ball with your hands when someone is flying in with their feet. Unlucky Dan, looked pretty solid otherwise I thought.
