Agreed. Came and took crosses, got pinned for one where they somehow missed though. Liked his attitude after the penalty save by shouting at the defence to concentrate and get in position for the corner instead of taking the plaudits on the save.
Thoughts of the Austria boss: Foda considers him a ‘penalty area presence’ and ‘confident cross catcher’ and thus wants to test him out in his side ahead of the Euros. Don't know what he's been watching!!!
Just watched the extended 10 mins highlights. RU only had 5 corners and 2 made it into the highlights where Bachmann was again a goal-line bystander. The second he was only interested in pushing the RU striker and not even looking at or attempting to get to the ball. I still think this is a serious weakness in his game.
Yes I agree but there was signs that he was coming of the line to take crosses. RU missed a sitter 2nd half from a corner where DB and Ngakia should of done better but also the other defenders needed to cover around the back which they didn't giving him a free header that somehow he missed. I still see more positives than negatives in the keeper and hope he keeps his position. The stats are showing he is more than capable and I'm personally very impressed with his handling.
I'm genuinely surprised by how much difference a keeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet makes. We retain possession and start so many more attacks now. How much of that is down to Bachmann being better with the ball than Foster and how much is the absence of Troy demanding we smash balls up to him, I'm not entirely sure but it's definitely nice to see us build from the back.
Yes so long as we don’t play around with it for too long getting caught out but fortunately seem to have avoided that so far .
Most teams seem to sit off us when we play out so far, will be interesting to see how we cope with a team that presses consistently. Can see why teams don't risk it when we've got Sarr
Another good game today from Austria's new #1 Didn't have a serious save to make, but much better from crosses
Interview with Bachmann on the BBC site. About his International hopes and connection with Steve Clarke. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56475423
He really has come on leaps and bounds. Consummate team player. He is also a really rather lovely person. Congratulations Dan. He is not far off becoming the Austrian number one permanently given his age as well.
Him and Dahlberg will be an interesting combination next season. Elliot will leave and Foster will no doubt want a crack at the PL again. However in my own opinion I think we need to go with the two younger keepers. Both potential national number ones.
He is 27 in June, never played a season at the top level, he will have barely 25 senior appearances in the top two tiers of English football by the end of the season. That’s not a promising CV for a Premier League keeper. Maybe he will be ok, but I would not want him as our number one without a very competent back up senior goalkeeper in the squad.
Did a decent job deputising for Big Ben, but he needs to drop back to No2 choice for the PL, and if he is not happy with that maybe we should move him on IMO.
Still a bit of an unknown quantity tbf, such has been the quality of protection he's been given by the likes of Hughes, Chalobah and Sierralta. Obviously he wouldn't have such little to do in the Prem, if we could get an upgrade on him (and Foster too tbf, as I don't think he's up to it anymore), great, although I do appreciate we can't get an upgrade everywhere
True, despite the number of performances, we still ain’t seen nothin’ yet to determine whether he is really good enough to be a prem #1. I’m still concerned that he seems unable to dominate his box, especially facing corners. Too much of a bystander but he’s conceded very few goals at champ level despite this...
Made the final 26! Fantastic and hugely deserved. From forgotten man to representing his country in just 5 months.
I'm not for one second suggesting he'll be as good as Martinez, but of all the things to worry about, his age isn't one of them, he could easily be around for another decade plus
They have some friendlies before the big kick-off, I would guess he might get a game then, although he didn't play the last time he was called up in March so I wouldn't be holding my breath. Still, a huge deal for him to go to the Euros
Well it could be a good way to see how he’ll cope in the PL with 90% more work to do than he had last season.
Actually put this on because of Bachmann. I doubt North Korean commentators spend as much time up the ar*e of their national team. Good lord. First names being used, 'I spoke to Gareth', worried voices because a player is down.
Usual name dropping there from Lee Dixon. No doubt someone will get injured. They probably have no idea who Bachmann is.
