He’s very versatile and in his case I feel his versatility has really prevented him from nailing down a position and starting place. Shocked to hear he’s 26 - always seemed like a young pretender. I think there is a player there but we don’t need another player heading to AFCON.
Plays for Ghana, who have qualified for AFCON. Would be peak Watford to sign a player to fix our defensive gaps who is then not available for January.
Out of contract in the summer, a couple of bad injuries in the last few years and he's going to AFCON. Ladies and gentleman, we have our new centre back.
He's been gash every time I've seen him play for Leicester this season, and that's been as part of a back three. I'd be worried about him as CB in a back four. As a squad option he wouldn't be terrible as he can also fill in at DM, but as a first-choice he's really not all that.
There's only one person who can give us the insight we deserve, even if we don't need it. Deploy... the @Filbert signal:
He was quite good when we first signed him, slotted in at right back occasionally during the run in of the title season and then had a very decent start to the following season after Kante left and he was used as a midfielder. He had a bad injury, I think he broke his leg and barely played for a couple of years. To be honest I almost forgot that we had him. Since Rodgers came in he’s been used as a back up centre half and occasionally started on the right of a back three. He came on in the FA Cup final and did well. He’s a decent ‘backs to the wall’ defender, good at one on ones but has too many brain farts to play in midfield or a high line. Not enough quality to play as a full back either. Seems popular with his teammates and has certainly been one of the less incompetent performers this season. For a lad of his age he hasn’t played much football but I can see why you’d take a punt on him, Ranieri certainly seems to like him.
You can’t trust Filbert on this, not now there is a MASSIVE cup game coming up. If he says Amartey is good, he will be trying to offload a terrible player on us. If he says he is rubbish, then clearly he is very good and we should get him. But then of course being as cunning as a fox who’s just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University this could be a double bluff designed to offload a useless squad filler on us. DO NOT TRUST FILBERT ON THIS.
I can't believe he's 26. Thought he looked like a talent a couple of years ago. That he can't get into Leicester's abysmal defence makes me worried (although Rodgers is known for sticking with his favourites). On a free, he does seem like a bit of a no-brainer though, given our current quality of CB. He's much, much better than Troost and Cathcart.
