How thin is their squad? Would only be there to make the numbers up surely. Did well for us last season and scored the winner at Norwich too so I wish him well.

    Preparing for the championship?

Maybe they’re just signing him to get secrets on our tactics, ahead of our crunch clash.

Getting him off the books would be good, but never agree in strengthening relegation rivals - even if he will be a squad player for them

I don't actually think he'd strengthen Burnley, but I would question the wisdom in moving a player to a side we're be playing in the next match, as he'll have the inside track on how we're preparing for the game.

Would he though? As in, join Burnley before we play them and share with Dyche everything he knows about how we’ve prepared for the game.

I’ve little knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes in Proffessional football, but i’d like to think that Gosling has more dignity than doing that.

A character like Dyche would probably tell him to F off anyways as he’d rather focus on preparing his own team without worrying about how other teams do it.

I think in sport you use all the legal advantages you can, well other teams seem to anyway.

I have no doubt that it happens, but on this occasion it seems a little unlikely.

I don’t think even our own players know what the fark they’re doing in training!

Yep, Gosling is crap, but what's to say this doesn't end up like Bournemouth selling him to us all over again?

He’s gone. £5m and Cornet on his way here on loan. Surprising one.

Reckon the club started this rumour themselves just to give the fans a nice boost by then saying they managed to hold on to him.

Happy Birthday to Dan, I hope he celebrates with a place in the 25 man squad purely for the reaction on here and Twatter.

I would genuinely rather have him in the squad over Ozan Tufan and Kucka.

Brilliant work from Watford. One year after arriving on a 2.5 year contract, and he can't make the squad, and because he's uprooted his three children under five, a move away is problematic. Cracking from Gino and Duxbury.

Seriously though, people on here and Twitter defend these signings to the death and then, within months, the club effectively endorses the opinion that they were a **** up themselves.

Rose, Tufan, Gosling. How many others have utterly failed within 6-12 months now?

Gosling wasn’t a bad signing for our immediate needs in the championship last season, but his contract length and presumably the wages we gave him (they must be overly high to not be able to shift him to anyone) are as usual the glaring issue here. The crapper the player the more intent we seem to be on tying them into a contract no other club in their right mind would.

I don't think the Gosling signing was a mistake in the way the Rose and Tufan ones were. He was a decent squad player at Championship level (and could be again if we are relegated and many other players leave). The mistake was to think he could be a squad player in the PL. He really should have been moved on after promotion when his stock would have been higher and a midfield place would have been freed up for an improvement.

Gosling should have been a loan or a deal until the end of last season. If he didn't agree to such a short contract then fine, just don't sign him. Don't tempt him here with a ******* two and a half year deal.

Apparently he is not prepared to uproot his family and move again, he did it from Bournemouth to us, even then there are local championship teams that he could have gone to, but maybe Gino will Learn not all players you get while a Championship club are suitable for the Premier League, you could say he helped do the job he was brought in for!

That's a fair point but the club would also have considered the possibility of not getting promoted straight away, at which point other players would have wanted to leave anyway.

The sympathisers will say exactly that “but maybe he wouldn’t have signed without being offered a long deal” well so bloody what, just don’t sign him then and move on to someone else!

It is truly bizarre how we fall over ourselves to ring fence such mediocre players on such ridiculous contracts, it must be like all your Christmases have come at once if you’re a 30+ middling championship player and your agent tells you Watford are interested.
