My philosophy is to ignore the people that shout loudest.

It’s not a bad coin. It’s not a scam or a Ponzi scheme as I’ve mentioned. I’m hoping for big gains if they deliver but it’s an investment in a start up. Nothing could happen and I lose a bit of money, but in a year or twos time amazon could accept it and it’l

This area is full of people slagging off coins that they want to buy cheap, and hyping coins they want to sell.

Anybody with some influence can make a difference using twitter etc so for me its all about the underlying tech and idea.

If you are in bitcoin well done. I’m playing catch-up by looking at potential 1000x gainers.

One currency will eventually become the norm. Bitcoin has a huge advantage in being the most publicised and probably oldest established.

I think the big money has been missed on bitcoin. The trick is flogging it before (if) it fails. Looking at the tech behind the currency is an interesting and intelligent spin on it. The best tech doesn't always win (VHS vs Betamax) but it does make it more likely to be adopted by the big players. If amazon starts accepting bitcoin then that will be a boost.

A small punt (that you can afford to lose) on each currency that seems credible is a sensible plan. I'm a bit wary of using the currency exchange sites and handing out bank details to them. For me the two tracker funds available for purchase in my pension seemed like the ideal compromise.

For me Bitcoin is up 44% and Ethereum is up 22% as of this morning. I wish I'd stuck more in them, but then again they could crash to zero.

www.envion.org - I'll be investing in this tomorrow. Haven't decided how much yet but probably somewhere between 0.5-1 eth

This looks a really interesting project although I'm not sure it's anything I would expect a huge return from.

I will probably invest an ETH solely because it tries to solve an ethical problem. I'm just not sure that the mobilisation and especially security costs will be outweighed by coin mining. Still, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I may have missed it, did they say how many sites they had located? If I understood correctly it requires disused telecoms infrastructure AND undersubscribed renewables? How many places like that can there possibly be?

Also I wonder at what coin price their business model works, or ceases to work, at...

I'll read up a bit more today, any idea what the teams background is, have they run businesses before etc

Where do you tend to find out about these new projects? Bitcointalk is full of people that can barely speak English, reddit is an echo chamber for VTC.

I don't think telecoms are needed as I believe they use some sort of satellite signal to go online. Oddly enough I found out about them through a mate, would've missed it otherwise!

So I now see the issue with CoinCorner.

    Current Bitcoin price £11511
    Coincorner buy price £12339
    Coincorner sell price £10513

...and then they charge for the transaction. Sl*gs.

So I deposited £50 and £100, paid for a streaming service for 6 months with bitcoin and sold up for £170 just now. That'll do me. I forsee crashy futures.

Bitcoin is getting some press at the moment which is why it's up a bit high. I'd be tempted to take my profitts if I had a sizeable investment. As I've only got £200 odd quid in it I'm holding on.
Ehereum is so bloody volatile that I can't read it. It's newer to the game and as such I think there might be a migration from Bitcoin to it and some point as people solidify their profits.

Usually when BTC goes up, Eth follows it. But as BTC has been going up at such an astronomical rate, people are selling Eth to buy more BTC. Driving the price of Eth down (and contributing even more to the BTC price rise)

At some point it should reverse then. The smart moey will be switchign shortly. Timing it will be a bugger.

Currently by 1 unit of bitcoin tracker is up 117% tempted to cash out the investment and just play with the proffit but it's relatively small compared to the rest of my pension pot.

Might be worth bunging a bit more in Ethereum.

The BTC price will most likely continue to rise until the CME futures launch on the 10th and 17th December. After that I don't have a clue what will happen!

I can see you guys are all doing well on BTC, but to me as an outsider it does have a slight feel of tulip mania about it?

Am I wrong to think that?

Bitcoin is very likely to experience a bubble burst in the near future, probably a bit after the Chicago furore dies down. It's experienced a massive surge in value in a very short period of time, which inevitably means a precipitous fall in the near future as the chancers sell up and try to recoup their losses.

I anticipate it continuing to surge over time, though. I'm going to wait for the bubble burst and then invest while it's low; once that's done I'm sitting on the investment, because I anticipate a coin being worth in excess of $500,000 inside a few years.

I've got about £270 invested in the Bitcoin tracker. Currently it's worth £631.

As part of my pension ist's a relatively small gamble and I wouldn't be too upset if it crashed. but part of me is thinking cash out now.

I've also got a wedge in Etheruem at 10% Profitt after charges according to the price this morning.

Unfortunately the other funds I'm invested in have lost more than this in the same period.

Potentially but there's a number of key differences.

Tulips can be farmed quite quickly, and when they proved to be popular supply soon overtook demand - sparking a "who can get out quickest" firesale. BTC hasn't got this aspect as there's only a fixed number of them (pretty low at 21 million, although the real number is probably much much less from people who were messing around with it years ago have lost by throwing away their computer/forgetting about). Bitcoin isn't just used as a investment tool - you can buy things with it and do all sorts of nifty stuff. Tulip mania was only limited to a small part of the world, making it much more likely for the market to crash and burn when over-saturated with tulips, BTC is world-wide so whilst not impossible, it's definitely more unlikely to suffer from this.

    Yep I have done.
Pretty much doubled my money and recycled the profit into Ethereum which seems to be going up as bitcoin is coming down.

Bit late but got a feeling it'll slide more. May well buy back in nsxt week depending on that announcement previously mentioned by @reids.

What website/app do you all use to make these trades?

I'm trading the tracker ETFs not the curreny itself though my Hargreaves Lansdown sipp. £11.95 to trade and bid/offer is market led. Firing up an f/x account like coinbase was a step too far for me.
Doing it this way give a bit of protection and as it;s in my pension the government takes 20% of the risk.

    Don't. You'll regret it.

Bitcoin's value is only going to go up because it gets more and more difficult to mine over time, by design. It's going to keep rising in value because the maths demands it.

About the only thing that's going to kill it is a government trying to control it in some fashion. While that's not impossible, you have to look at it in context: you're on the hook for 200 quid. That's going to make sod all difference in your retirement. Conversely, if it really does continue to skyrocket like some very intelligent and knowledgeable people expect, you'll potentially make a small fortune for very little risk.

Too late. Cashed out and more than doubled my money.
It's recovered a bit since so probably miss-timed it but I dumped the profit into Ethereum if it goes pop now I'm still up.

Do explain. I'm curious as to how you came to the conclusion that long term investments cause price spikes and their inevitable corrections.

If can be. Bloke appears to be very naive though.
It's hugely volatile. You won't time the market. It's hugely risky and should only be considered with money you can afford to lose.
I've invested in the tracker ETFs through a reputable regulated company. Reduces the reward but also the risk. Profitt isn't profitt untill you've withdrawn it.

Good people on here know more about the techicalities of the currencies, I'm coming from a financial adviser (unqualified) background.
