It's the Continuity COG that worry me.

It's difficult to consider as I've turned over a new positive leaf these days. But if I were to guess, the COGs tend to defend the decisions of the club at face value.

GDL seem to invent reasoning to defend them. For example, 'I'm sure they tried to sign someone' or 'I'm sure they tried to get a transfer fee in excess of the ludicrous one they paid for a RB only to play them at CB and they are **** in any form of defensive role'.

But anyway, I'm sure Gino and the team know what they're doing. Can't wait for this Arsenal lad to sign! Woop woop COYH!

Joking aside it’s amazing someone feels the need to police and object to this morning’s conversation.

Since63 made the point that we need to think of the here and now and not fret over past mistakes that got us here. And I agreed with him. Such debate is unacceptable on a football forum apparently.

Wouldn’t that be a form of bed-wetting though?
What happens when clappers wet the bed?

Discuss. Or don’t. After all, it’s discussion that is ruining this forum for some.

I am just interested that we made 4 signings over the past two windows, when we were in the Premier League. We've now dispensed with 3 of those players for nothing and retain the one major singing we made, though seemingly only because he's the family silver and we want the full market rate for him.

It would be nice to put the mistakes of the past behind us, but many idiot pant wetters knew they were mistakes at the time and were shouted down. The same idiot pant wetters make criticism now and are still being told to shut up.

I don't see letting Dawson leave on loan is a mistake on its own. I am sure we would have loved to get a fee from him on a permanent sale, but couldn't find a buyer.

I just remain infuriated with the arrogance that got us into this situation and I believe the ongoing policies which will see us settle at this level or lower.

I think if you're infuriated with them for the mistakes they've made in the last 12/18 months you also had to treat them with adoration for the 4 years of stable prem existence which was difficult to imagine 5 or 6 years ago. I feel less passionate each way. They have screwed up over the last 2 years and that has cost us security in the prem and cost them a lot of money. They are now having to deal with that by cutting costs, losing our better players and bringing in poorer replacements. CV19 means that the exodus is at bargain basement pricing. It hurts to see it and I'll be glad when this window has passed. Objectively it's unlikely we will see 4 years of comfortable prem membership again, esp if they shrink that league.

An absolutely woeful signing at a time when we so desperately needed to properly strengthen our defence but instead simply added more crap to the dung pile.

If West Ham actually plan on playing him then lol. Awful.

Do we know how Dawson travelled to West Ham to sign the new deal? Did we arrange a driver or did West Ham send someone to pick him up? Did he drive himself? And which way around the M25 did he go? I reckon clockwise but does anyone ITK know anything? Burnsy, what do you think?

I thought he was a good if cheap signing at the time. Part of a very secure WBA defence and seemed to be highly thought of. However I guess that was largely due to the very defensive formation WBA used with holding mids and very defensive FBs. Very easy to look comfortable as a CH if no-one ever gets the chance to run at you and you simply have to head the crosses away as far as you can and score the odd goal. Turned out to be no better than what we had, so a poor signing.

I think on twitter the consensus was that he went round the north of the M25 and WFC booked the taxi. I believe he did get a receipt and the taxi co wasn't VAT registered.

I was under the impression we didn't necessarily want to get rid of him or force him out, he was playing. West Ham wanted him and we didn't mind too much. That's why the loan deal confused me.

This is exactly why people get so frustrated with the way Duxbury and Gino are running our club. Why are we picking up Dawson's taxi bills? West Ham have well and truly had our pants down. We're a joke

I actually remember a lot of West Brom being extremely negative about him and happy to see him go.

Just a typical example of a modern Pozzo signing. Scraping the barrel and scooping out excrement from the bottom of the bargain bin.

The reason he got the receipt was so that WHU would refund.

Yes I remember a lot saying that his form had dipped badly in the champ but that he was fine in the prem. Anyway, not a good signing, agreed.

This. Absolutely this. I don't post much but do enjoy reading the threads from time to time. The enjoyment is fast going out the window with all these recent arguments taking over every thread. Pretty pathetic from everyone.

It's to be expected. We've just been relegated and are having to sell our best players for peanuts. Not the place to come if you're looking for a quick pick-me-up in these oceans of misery.

I think today’s activity falls firmly in the ‘reasoned debate’ category, rather than ‘argument’. Of course, ‘argument’ does not have to be a perjorative term, nor does one need to degenerate into a slanging match.

Indeed. Plenty of threads to complain about raging arguments (Suarez Tracksuit Gate or Estupinan Greatest Negotiator in World Football for example). Very odd that people picked up this morning’s thread.

If, and it's a big if, we get a loan fee of say, £1m, and West Ham pay all his wages, we've done well there. Definitely don't see him being in our plans next season, God knows if we'll be able to shift him then, fingers crossed West Ham take up that supposed option

Fulham set to sign Kongolo for circa £3m who is probably at the very least a younger player of similar quality to Dawson. He also just spent the last 6 months on loan there so is a known quantity, and you would imagine talks have been ongoing for a few months.

Town signed him for £18m and are now selling him for £3m - makes the Dawson deal look look okay.

Imagine a world where our club can have players on over 100k a week combined wages go out on loan and not feel we are missing out.

Never thought our supposed sensibly run 'best of the rest' club could ever have been so stupid but these wages are crazy.

I enjoyed the 3 or 4 years of success, even defended the lunacy of the culture of sacking and player power to begin with, but when I could see that it was starting to become damaging I lost faith.

I haven't had that faith restored and I still don't like their way of doing things.

I certainly wish they had more empathy with us fans and gave a damn about their relationship with us. They're not exactly trying to be warm and cuddly, and when it all goes wrong there's no bank of goodwill they can call on to keep the fanbase behind them and morale high.

The board ask Ivic about Dawson and he says he is very low down the pecking order (may go to two centre backs) and may not play very much. Ok then we will try and move him out and save on wages. Not sure why you chose De Bruyne to use as an example because every club in the world would want him. There is no point keeping Dawson, paying him but not playing him. We might as well at least save money in the short term
