A reactionary regret about a reactionary thread created a few hours after Luton. I expect better from the forum mother! Perhaps merge it with the other Cleverley thread? Then start a new one on Friday night when we finally lose at home.
International break now … could be time for Gino to pull the the trigger, save our season and hopefully pull ourselves back down to mid table safety .
We were trying our best at the end of last Fridays game to get to mid table, had we lost we would now be 11th!
Only need to lose every game between now and the end of season to all but guarantee relegation . Come on you ‘Orns
Not sure where you got that data from, but the BBC stats differ slightly - possession is the same but we had slightly more shots, both overall (16-14) and on target (8-6). I suppose shots on target can be a bit subjective in that there's a fine dividing line between what's a clear-cut chance and what's a routine save from the keeper coming off his line. Still definitely not a four-goal win on the balance of play, like you said. It's interesting that a lot of our more unexpected results and performances have come when Bayo has scored: Stoke 0-4 Watford Watford 4-0 QPR Preston 1-5 Watford Watford 2-2 Leeds Sheff Wed 2-6 Watford That suggests that if we get a decent striker that alone could really galvanize the team and it could go places.
Where are you getting those stats from? From what I’ve seen, Bayo alone had an xG of 2.48 against Wednesday, and Ince had another penalty
I got it from this website here. The xG does look odd - maybe a typo as all the other data looks about right ? Maybe they exclude pens and just use open play xG ? Anyway, it's got to be right, it's on the internet, no ? https://footystats.org/england/watford-fc-vs-sheffield-wednesday-fc-h2h-stats#
So if your striker scores then you have a better chance of winning ? and the more regularly he scores the more games you can win ? Who knew ?
I mean it's more than that, he's a really likeable guy and I think on the rare occasions he scores that lifts his teammates who want him to do better and inspires them to a really positive result. But alas, because he scores so rarely, results like the above are rare and hence why we have been mostly midtable since relegation from the Prem and probably will end up that way if we don't get someone better in his position. So I think even a 10-15 goal striker with his personality could really make a difference - of course I'd settle for someone with the personality of Gray or Davis if he could get us 20-25 goals...
I’m happy with my use of the word in relation to the thread being created. Adjective or noun, take your pick, the reactionary mindset is that of someone who wants the old order, not progress. Clevs, in this case, represents progress. Gino’s sacking culture is regressive. innit though. But, even though the word has taken on a wider meaning over time, maybe I should have said ‘reactive’ rather than ‘reactionary regret’. So I kinda get your point. Happy to be corrected. But I think I need @Keighley to cast judgment.
Well argued, seems OK to me although “reactive “ would indeed be better placed before “regret”. Has this **** been sacked yet?
