All I can remember about him at Sheffield was thinking he was posing like a Monty Python Yorkshireman - all gritty, demanding, no-nonsense brass-tacks stuff; but that he'd got a Championship-at-best squad steaming into the Premiership. Impressive while it lasted for a year or so, tbf.
Whatever happens results-wise, he should shake this lot up a bit and get them attacking a bit more (well, trying to). Given the performance against a very ordinary Preston side, where surely Bilic was semaphoring he'd had enough, it has got to be more entertaining, even if not more successful.

Would have been far more sensible.

    And at least as successful.

I hope he’ll be utterly committed to us over the entirety of his 2 month contract. He can be as tactically inflexible as he likes as long as he wins the next 7 or so on the bounce and gets us back into PO contention.

Barring someone spectacular like Hassenhuttl, I think this was about as good an appointment as we could have made, he's got a fabulous track record, but of course that only means so much at our club, a lot of the same could have been said about Bilic

I just found out, not sure what to make of it but he is more upbeat than Slav and he did take Sheff Utd up, fingers crossed as always. Never boring with Gino in charge is it.

How did someone like Bepe Sannino last so long - the Italian connection?

He was pretty average wasn’t he ..

Seem to remember a lot of 1-0 games .

Received a similar message from my boro supporting mate. Says he has no plan B.

For me it's a step in the right direction then, as he must have a plan A. Which I don't even think Bilic had.

If this appointment had happened back when we were a normal club operating in the lower half of the Championship, I think the fans would have seen it as a solid choice and settled down for the next two or three seasons to see how it panned out. Now we just see it as an irrelevance and one of the never ending string of appointments, fully expecting it to come to an end in a couple of months.

Before Christmas and after Edwards had signed for Shyte Town and Nathan Jones had gone to Saints a friend who follows that lot down the road said that we will meet eachother in the play off final , Edwards will be on the Scummers bench and Nathan Jones will be on ours . I still wouldn't rule it out .

....in any case nothing will change until we start scoring goals.
Whilst JP is not a natural CF he is the most likely to score a goal .
We have plenty of players that can play in the no. 10 role .
To to sum up , IMO, JP should lead the line .

That was before the Pozzos really lost the plot tbf, apart from Billy McKinlay, they always gave managers until the end of the season back then, although we had a fair few resignations in our pre-Prem days which don't do our managerial stats many favours!

No chance lol, it's one thing a guy who had been here 5 minutes taking the job up there, another thing entirely a manager who's a bit of an icon up there taking a job here, besides, unless the Pozzos truly are crazy, I don't see Wilder getting sacked before the end of the season

I get why people are upset with the situation overall but I really don't understand the hate for Wilder. Calling him a dinosaur is absolutely bemusing when he is one of the more innovative coaches tactically. I don't know if he's the answer, probably not as no one can be under Gino, but he's a far better coach than any of our recent appointments.

I’ll be interested to see who his backroom team are - few things I’ve read suggest that Alan Knill is more the innovator etc and Wilder is more of the tub-thumper who tries to motivate them.

Problem is, we say this every time. And every time it doesn’t work out, the coach is to blame. And the cycle repeats. The next coach will definitely be better than Wilder.

That's my take too. It's not so much I've got anything particularly against Wilder, it's just he's clearly another short-term sticking plaster appointment who will have limited influence over the squad.

And the last coach will always get the blame for the players not being *fit enough for the incumbent coach.

*With lack of fitness being confused for the players just not giving a ****.

They've done it before. Season 19/20

    Gracia => QSF 2.0 => Pearson => Mullins

Oh, it will fail, but it almost certainly won't be down to Wilder. Whilst Pozzo is in charged the club is a ******* circus and it's near impossible for results to be achieved. But, on surface, he's a good coach who I'm sure many of us would have been happy with in summer. Just giving him 11 games to get the squad playing a completely different style of football, with very poor fits in terms of personnel, will almost certainly end with 4 wins in 11 and a 12th place finish.

It's always been about results. The guys who got to the end of the season like Mazz & QSF #1 were only because they had started so well so earned a grace (or Gracia) period. Joka was probably a game or 2 away from being sacked. GFZ "resigned" but jumped before he was pushed.

He's the last coach we had with a bit of personality. That's now all but evaporated from the game.

I think he deserves a lot more credit than he gets. He did a serviceable job of steadying the ship after Zola, and was sacked after picking up 12 from 15 points from the start of the promotion season, and we didn't really pick up that form again until December

Or did he quit after falling out with the Pozzos maybe unsurprisingly given his personality!
