I suppose in our case, if us and Wolves do it with 1 player, it makes it almost impossible for FIFA, via the FA, to do anything.

"You forfeit the match. Wait, no, you forfeit the match. Err... we mean, you both forfeit the match. What do you mean you lost so don't care?"

What level of control do FIFA actually have over the Premier League?

I think it's disgraceful that Fantasy Football Players like myself are having to leave their transfer and team selections so late in the day with it all in the balance. I'll probably go and forget altogether and the games will have kicked off!

Oh and not ideal for the actual clubs I suppose.

Sounds like Sierralta isn't actually cleared to play.

Jimenez can play as Mexico have withdrawn their complaint - wonder how much it cost to get them to change their mind.

Time for Gino to tell the Chilean FA that if they back down, don’t expect Sierralta in October either. He keeps missing one game for us as punishment, but will miss 2-3 games for them each time. They then fail to qualify for the WC because they were missing their best CB, it’s on them for being bellends.

Not only that but individual clubs shouldn't be able to negotiate out of it unilaterally. The PL should either support all its member clubs and take whatever sanctions FIFA thinks it can impose or say no and all affected players miss the next game.

If Jimenez scores then I imagine the club would initiate a complaint.

Reports I've read suggest FIFA had discussions with Mexico & persuaded them to withdraw the complaint....we now await a similar situation with Brazil followed by the inevitable apology explaining there 'just was not enough time' to initiate discussions with Chile, or that they did try, but the head of the Chilean FA was 'unfortunately having a dump' and couldn't take the call.

Farcical situation all round really. The PL basically only supply a match ball and negotiate the TV deal every few years, so never want to get involved in anything like this if they can avoid it.

This sounds like a plan .

    To basically ignore FIFA.

Where is the legal line here? Can FIFA stop players playing for their clubs whenever they want to? I'd like to see FIFA's powers to ban players who dont travel during a pandemic, due to quarantine restrictions, challenged in court.

If this is the case then so should Serrialta otherwise the whole thing is a farce with the bigger clubs getting another unfair advantage.

The PL should make a stand for ALL it's members and not just the elite few

Yeah but we can change our phone number before October and put the out of office on the email. They’ll never get the call up through.

Chile can fxck right off .

They think that just because they’ve got the longest country in the world they can always throw their weight around , telling us more evenly proportioned countries what to do all the time . Makes me sick .

Massive blow. How many games will he miss due to the Oct internationals if Chile remain on the red list and he needs to quarantine? Looks like we will be seeing a lot of Kabasale this season. Then the AFCON means we lose how many other first teamers for how many matches. It’s ridiculous trying to establish ourselves in the Prem in these conditions.

Yes Chile are my wife's country's (Peru) rivals. They can keep their hands off of the Tacna region and stick their fake Pisco up their arses.

Blame the owners for building a squad full of AFCON players and not strengthening at CB? It’s not like they didn’t know.

Chile will not make it to Qatar the way they are playing. They are in reconstruction mode. They simply do not have the players to replace Vidal, Sanchez, Medel and the like. I mean they are scrabbling around to find players from other nations with Chilean parentage or trying to naturalize overseas players. Having Sierralta in their side is not going to help them score goals.

Suffice to say the situation with players allowing to be played or not in CONMEBOL qualification has been a complete custerduck. One federation namely the CBF or rather it's government making up decisions on the hoof to try and score political points.

Yes the AFCON could be a terminal factor for us given the winnable games during that period unless we have a flyer in these opening months.

While I vehemently disagree with Wenger and his proposals for a biennial World Cup I do agree with the need for a defined calendar. One in which club v country conflicts are minimized. Namely that we have a defined period of time perhaps covering six weeks with smaller qualification groups that wrap up qualifying for continental championships and the World Cup.

For example in CONMEBOL instead of one group of ten nations, two groups. In UEFA and CAF the same principle with the weakest nations entered into one prequalifying group. It would also make the qualifiers more edge on the seat than what most are currently.

As you say they are obviously aware and have chosen this route for whatever reasons. We can only guess why. Perhaps they have a great plan for Jan window ? Maybe they are gambling it will be cancelled ? Who knows ?
