The Premier League should extend two fingers by rescheduling all the matches to 6 days after the window. :)

Pinochet never released anyone who should have been - so why should we?

I suspect that they are just ahead of some others in complaining. Can't say as I blame them or the Premier League for being upset. Both have an awful lot on the line. I don't know what protocols are bing enforced for some of the World Cup qualifiers, but it would seem that implementing/enforcing very strict protocols would go a lot further in getting the PL & UK Gov't to sort out a compromise than chest-thumping and threatening. But that would require actual work, so clearly a problem.

The UK hotel quarantine system looks like a scam to me, like the PCR tests. Brits are being massively overcharged by private companies who have 'won' government contracts.

It's an open invitation for huge levels of government corruption.

Interesting upshot of this is while we might be missing Sierralta next weekend, FIFA are likely to ban Jiminez for Wolves too. Would people take that deal?

    No.

    1. We need Sierralta on the pitch.

    2. How could we boo Jimenez if he's not playing?

They’d probably play that South Korean striker and he is bound to score !

I know Chile don't go to Brazil this international window, but I wonder if the farcical scenes in the Brazil-Argentina game will strengthen our case?

Legally it shouldn't. As far as I can ascertain FIFA rules require that clubs release players for competitive internationals should they be selected. What happens to the players, or what would have happened to them, when they arrive is not relevant. Watford, and the other clubs, are clearly in breach of the regulations. The only question is whether the 5 day ban on club matches is mandatory or not. If it is not some leniency could be given.
Having said all that I assume that if a player had been called up to play for Afghanistan in Kabul this weekend and a club refused to let him go FIFA wouldn't impose the ban.

Although it looked like Sierralta decided not to go himself or certainly hasn’t kicked up a fuss if advised not go by the club.

Whereas I guess these 4 probably did and just went off their own backs.

Will FIFA ban them for breaking rules too ?

That's a good point. If players were allowed to go but chose not to then FIFA can do nothing.

I hope the game in Kabul is still on. I havent shaved for weeks in preparation and we've got really good seats in the Upper Bin Laden stand. Can anyone recommend a good bar for pre match drinks?

Good idea. EasyJet flights are very cheap at present. Very few return seats available though so I hope you’ve booked ?

Very true. So if Sierralta says it was his choice it could be ok. If FIFA tries to impose a ban I'd like to see the PL take out an injunction on the ban and then challenge FIFA's power in the courts. There's a limit to how much power FIFA has over players and where the line is legally can be questioned. In this instance does FIFA have the right to sanction a club that hasn't released a player due to quarantine restrictions during a pandemic? FIFA is promoting intercontinental travel during a pandemic that has killed millions of people. It's not on very firm ground there ethically when you think how many people have died worldwide having been part of a chain of infection that started with someone going to a football match or travelling by plane. I think there's a legal argument that FIFA doesn't have the right to sanction clubs whose players dont travel due to quarantine restrictions. Ive done 2 hotel quarantines during the pandemic, it's not very enjoyable at all and it would have a really negative impact on the physical condition of a professional athlete. Maybe FIFA should focus a little bit more on racism in stadiums during qualifiers and less on banning players who don't travel during a pandemic.

FIFA president talking about the need for flexibility. That sounds like good news. 20210906_203138.jpg

Yeah but when a FIFA President asks for a ‘compromise’ or ‘flexibility’ he means ‘bribe’. The statement reads much clearer once you apply that rule.

This is truth. FIFA gets bribes from the local Federations. WHat they want is for the Premier League and/or the clubs to make some sort of special appeal. During this process funds magically apear (probably after being routed through Panama, the Maldives, Doha and a few other stops... and Kaboom! Problem gone due to "special circumstances".

Rather money leave our pockets for this to help us keep Sierralta over international breaks than keeping Mogi Bayat sweet!

We understand you have pledged to give your vote to England but FIFA would request your flexibility in this issue and reccomend considering Qataar as wel. FIFA, a transparent and accountable organisation , can assure that the more flexible a member state is the more it will open up channels and access to FIFA ‘resources’

Of course Sierralta will be forced to miss our game at the weekend I suspect. As will the players for Wolves, Newcastle and Blackburn. Strangely I have a feeling Brazil won’t be as demanding due to a number of players being from Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd.

Call me cynical but I suspect the “decision within the next 24 hours” will be that all their players are good to play.

Correct decision not to allow them to travel but would take the piss if we get penalised.
