Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Deeney makes team of the season.

We should get a defensive entry as we have the lowest goals conceded.

To be honest, most of our best performing players have only played half a season so it will count against them: Bachmann, Masina, Hughes, Sierralta.

Then there are others that played much better in the second half of the season such as Chalobah, Cleverley and Sarr.

The only one with a real claim would be Kiko but he's up against Aarons who will take that spot.

The only way we get a player in the team of the season is if they include Sarr and Buendia and put one on the wrong side.

Interestingly we could break the record for lowest goals ever conceded in the Championship. Record is Middlesbrough in 14/15 with 31, we're on 28 with 2 games to play!

Other clubs have may have their entries in the team of the season...but we have promotion :)

Aren’t these awards voted for half-way through the season - about the time our team started to play. There’s no goal of the season nomination from after Christmas.

Worth pointing out that’s one of those records that relies on the rebranding of the league. Sunderland in Division 1 in 98/99 conceded 28 over the season - hardly a lifetime ago.

Lowest is actually Preston in 05/06 with 30. But yes, what an incredible record. Been keeping track of this and now am desperate for us to finish the job.

To be fair, they're not very likely to give out awards to a Premier League team that dropped into the Championship for a season just for a larf & then ****ed off again

Elliott over Sarr for YPOTS is a joke. Only there because he’s Liverpool.

Since the end of January Elliot has had 3 assists and 2 goals.

Sarr, 8 goals and 2 assists.

    Season over all

    Elliott - 6 goals, 11 assists
    Sarr - 13 goals, 4 assists

Clearly this was decided in December/January. Anyone with common sense would never pick Elliott over Sarr in this category.

To be fair, (even though Sarr almost certainly does qualify as a ‘young’ player for the purposes of this award) Sarr shouldn’t really be considered a young player any more. This is, what, his fifth senior season? Olise and Elliott have been real breakout stars this season - their first in senior football; it would be a bit silly if they both played another two seasons in the Championship and then a season in the PL and then drop down to the Championship in 2024-5 and won the YPOTS award, wouldn’t it?

Silly or not, Sarr qualifies for that award, and there’s not a single right minded person that would Elliott over Sarr.

You could also say the same for Aarons, not that much difference between him and Sarr.

Take nothing away from Elliott, but he doesn’t deserve to be in it over Sarr.

  17. LeedsOrn

I definitely would say the same for Aarons, for what it’s worth. YPOTS, in my view, should be reserved for a young player having a breakout season at this level.

I agree with you, it should be that way, but Aarons is there, therefore so should Sarr be over Elliott.

I’ve always wondered that if Kiko was English and a tad younger he’d get way more recognition and would probably be more widely regarded as the best RB in the league, if Aarons wasn’t English there’s no way he’d be rated so highly.

I would be shocked if Giannoulis gets in. He joined them in Jan. His claim is weaker than Masina’s.

Hughes, Sierralta and Sarr surely have the biggest shouts. Aarons will be in at RB over Kiko. But maybe Masina is in with a decent shout due to the dearth of good LBs, especially with Rico Henry’s injury.

Mainly said that because most of the team will just be Norwich I reckon despite lots of other players having really good seasons.

Styles at Barnsley could well be and probably should be the LB.

Is it voted for by the players themselves as in the PFA awards? Or is some arbitrary panel made up of random people who have probably not even watched many EFL games this season?

If it’s the former, I can see Sarr and maybe Sierralta voted in.

    Defensively Aarons is avg/poor
    Attacking wise he’s very good.

I saw his overall stats somewhere, and if memory serves me right, all the defensive attributes a defender needs, he was ranked in amongst the lowest in the championship.

Attacking attributes, I think he was first in nearly all of them, if not all of them.

Regardless of how good people think he is, he is a massive liability when defending. People just get fooled into thinking he’s amazing because he’s quick and direct.

In fact under the Opta Performance Index, Kiko out performs Aarons. Aarons scores 1.5 and Kiko 1.9 per 90, all whilst playing 6 games less.

Aarons being the best RB in the league is a myth. It’s Kiko, and Opta backs that up.

I would agree, think/hope it will be:

    GK: Krul
    RB: Kiko
    CB: Sierralta
    CB: Hanley
    LB: Styles/Richards
    CM: Hughes
    CM: Skipp
    LM: Danjuma
    RM: Sarr
    CAM: Buendia
    ST: Toney

If the ‘Screwfix EFL Moment of The Season’ isn’t won by Isaac Success being smashed 30 secs after the final whistle on Saturday OR Andre Gray’s Cryuff flick back to an opposing striker stood in our 6yd box, then these awards are clearly a sham anyway.

    It’ll be 442.

Because no way do they have Pukki up for POTS but not put him in the Team of The Season.

Sarr MIGHT be shoe-horned in if they put Buendia in CM but doubtful. I bet Cantwell gets in ahead of Hughes. Mowatt an outside shout.

We never seem to get many in these teams even in a promotion season.

    2/3 at best.

Well, we do have two of the best players on social media. We have a cycling goal keeper and a media mouthpiece. Any prizes for those?

  33. LeedsOrn

Agreed. Pukki will come in for either Danjuma or Sarr. Fairly sure that Aarons will be hyped over Kiko too although Kiko has had the better season.

You’d think Cantwell at CM would be a bit of mockery; he’s not a CM by any stretch and certainly wouldn’t be good in a midfield two and he hasn’t even been that good this season, certainly not as good as Olise, Danjuma or Sarr. If they’re going to put in an attacking midfielder into the midfield to make a totally imbalanced side, it will be Olise, who has at least played some games at CAM. Mowatt is a decent shout by the way; I reckon it’s between him, Hughes and Olise to partner Sarr. (Hughes would be clear but for his limited number of appearances).

The reason that Sarr isn't there, or at least the prime one, is that, actually, he doesn't qualify for the award:
