I guess that tally is still quite a small sample size (he's only been a regular for a few years) so it might be fair to suggest he'll struggle to maintain those levels, while also suggesting he's the best finisher we have

It was me! It can depend on the quality of their opponent - to me that data shows that Healy is/was capable of playing at a higher tier than he has done previously as it is indeed an impressive ratio. Usually players move up tiers and then face a higher quality defender/goalkeeper which sees some reversion to the mean as they adapt - those that continue to smash it continue moving on up until that reversion happens. Kane has always outperformed his xG at pretty much the highest level of the game, stick Healy in the PL and it's likely he'll struggle somewhat against the better keepers/CBs.

I don’t think @reids has provided the data for all of Healey’s appearances, given that he has more than 52 goals across his career. 1.33 goals per xG would be very impressive. Harry Kane since 2017 has 135 goals from 114 xG which is 1.18.

I had not thought about the impact of quality of opponent on xG over/underperformance. Thanks for highlighting.

Do you have any of Bayo’s Jupiler data? Would be interesting to see if the data matches up with what we’ve been seeing the last few games.

13 goals from 13.36 xG in just the Jupiler league.

    Another bad result for Munoz.

    Might not last long now.

I guess the average Belgian league goalie isn't as good as the average Championship goalie though, which might mean he wouldn't get the same amount of goals from that amount of xG for us

aren’t xG stats tied to the league? I would have thought it would be of 1000 shots in this league, on the stronger leg, in x position, with keeper in Y position, rather than just any league, but I could be wrong wrong

Getting knocked out of the Cackapoo Cup is a great result.

Maybe for some who don’t need to get results or aren’t under pressure but probably not for a man who has lost all 4 league games and beaten at home by a team 2 leagues below having gone in front ..

Mind you guess SW won’t care if they win at Leeds this weekend .

    Really?

I'd have guessed the leagues/clubs/players are pretty similar overall quality wise.

Brighton's new keeper was also signed from Anderlecht, and Brugge's current keeper is Mignolet - which suggests that there must be some quality in there.

When you're in the mire in the league like they are then the cup would just be another unwelcome distraction. I can't imagine they have the biggest squad either. They'll be needing to put all their energy in to Championship survival.

I can't see them getting that result. I fear he may be fired after that game.

Fair point about the club itself but not good for Munoz himself I feel.

Yeah, he’ll go after 1-2 more bad results. Quite baffling he got the job in the first place.

Very roughly similar yes, and for sure, there's a chance the top Belgian league keepers are better than any Championship keepers (Mignolet is an interesting one as he's getting on a bit), but surely the quality of keepers down the bottom of the Belgian league would be more similar to League 1 standard

I think so, but then you'd expect better keepers and defenders to be more athletic and technically better and able to stop strikers in more difficult scenarios

They're playing Leeds away on Saturday, which is a big Yorkshire derby. Lose that, which I'd be amazed if they didn't and with the international break to follow, I think he'd be sacked after that game.

    Entirely possible.

Knowing us, a similar fate awaits Ismael if we get a bad result at Coventry (which I think we will).

I think Ismael will be fine for this break. Performances have been largely decent enough and players seem to be still positive. Where I will expect the owner will lose his patience is by the following international break in October. That'll be 11 games and I very much doubt our results would have improved sufficiently by then.

Yeah, performances have been fine and players seem to be working hard for the manager. So I’d give VI at least 3-4 weeks after the end of the transfer window

I see we have another run of 3/4 homes out of 5 which will prove vital I suspect but also got Leeds/Southampton which will be tough.

Your relentlessly tiresome view of the league cup is totally irrelevant to how their fans and their board will view his ability to do the job, when this result is packaged up alongside his start to the season, and the results in all those other games.

I see Spurs fans have turned on their manager a bit despite a good league start after they lost just on penalties to a team in the same division.

Does show most fans won't accept any defeat easily or brush it off.

I think most fans, the vast majority of us including, will want to see their team go through against lower league opposition. Worst case scenario you can just play the reserves again in the next round so it need not have a negative impact on anything else, there really is no downside. You can be certain the result will have done Munoz no favours that’s for sure.

Very different circumstances considering they made 9 changes and we started 10 of the 11 who played against QPR! Does beg the question why Ange decided to make so many changes considering it's so early in the season and considering they're not in Europe this season

Most impressed with Stoke and Coventrys windows out the league this season, both made some impressive buys

Notable mention for Sunderland, their approach is interesting, time will tell whether they were impressive or not!

Lots of Champ clubs looking abroad now be interesting to compare the ratio of English to foreign players in the Champ now compared to 10 years ago

Bought some inexperienced U21s from some big clubs (PSG/Benfica/PSV etc) then combined it with some more young players from some pretty random countries (Ukraine, Australia etc)

Their fans seem to be bemoaning a lack of a striker - sounds familiar!

Stoke actually have had a reset /rebuild - they will want to make sure it works this time .

The relegated clubs seem to have done a lot of recruiting with the money they have .

Southampton might need a few of those new players to come good at this rate.

    Sunderland 2 up already.
