Anyone done one of these? The PMPs unloved younger brother it would seem.

    Is this a video game?

  3. I've only bothered with Prince 2 through my career as its the most universally known PM qualification, and even then only to have it on my cv. No one actually uses it.

Most organisations have their own bastardised hybrid of methodologies, DSDM is my personal favourite in software/firmware land.

Agreed. Having been a project manager now for over 10 years, I got Prince 2 for the CV, have only really used it in one job (ironically when I got the qualification). The job I’ve been in the last 4 years I’ve not even had a whiff of Prince 2 in anything I have done. Actually in my opinion with project management, once you have a few years experience under your belt, learnt a few of the tools needed, you are more or less good to go in most areas as the skills are transferable.

That being said, being a PM is an at times stressful, soul destroying job with minimal praise. Everywhere I have worked you are basically the canon fodder for any failures in projects and when projects go right team members/senior managers get all the praise. Pays well, but not quite sure how or why I fell into it all!

Yeah I'm in a bit of a career cul de sac, and i need to freshen things up. I have plenty of managerial experience, but no where to put it.

Project management seems like a good fit, but everybody is asking for PMP qualifications of one sort or another just to get an interview.

This CAPM thing doesn't need any experience, but it's also a few hundred quid and if it won't do anything for me I don't want to waste my time and money studying for it
