Opposition Forum: https://griffinpark.org/index.php So despite playing the best we have played against Man City in a while, with a some what fortunate scoreline thanks to their wasted chances and a Rose disaster class - we have made it out of the run of hell still three points above the trap door (although Burnley do have a game in hand). Brentford, or as I like to call them, "the media darlings" have been the talk of the pundits with their 'exciting brand of no fear football' and I will admit, they have started better than I thought they would. Having gone through what is quite possibly their worst run of the season - they seem to have steadied the ship somewhat, but now they are without their goal machine Toney for our visit on Friday night, it could a good time to play them. No Show - Ivan Toney will be absent for our visit on Friday night Our record against Brentford overall is pretty good. Despite losing this fixture 2-0 last season in an end of season 'who-gives-a-crap' training session performance, we have had the upper hand is the vast majority of our games. Had Perica's very late goal not been wrongly ruled offside we would of beaten them at the Vic. When we were promoted under Joka, we did the double over them that season, and also beat them in a pre season friendly. I am however, under no illusions that they will be tougher side to face even without Toney, Premiership points going to Xmas are like early presents, and we will have to fight for them. When two of the promoted sides meet, it's generally a level playing field in terms of ability. However, I am pretty confident our attack has the ability to win this game. Despite losing our last three games, two being against the best sides in the division, we never folded in either game and Chelsea especially, could of stolen a point or all three. No matter how good we have looked going forward under Uncle Claude (Liverpool aside), our ramshackle back line has let us down time and time again. Problem being, we have no way to find a solution till January at the earliest. It's pointless going through formations and lineups as with so many out a monkey could predict our starting eleven. I hope, Rose is dropped after his performance on Sunday. Kabs is a good enough replacement. He needs time out to sort his head out, and his fitness. Cucho is a very good impact sub, so I expect he will be used in the same aspect, with a starting attack of Dennis and King with Pedro holding. Bachmann was excellent on Sunday overall, and Mr. YouTube might have a hard time winning back his place. We showed last season we can do it on a cold night in Stoke, but can we do it on a cold and wet Friday night in Brentford? My Prediction: Brentford 1 Watford 3
Didn't know Toney was going to be missing - that's very good news! No doubts about our attack, or the intent of the manager, so we should be entertaining at the least. I've seen the lack of effort from Rose all season once someone has run past him, it's criminal (in the footballing sense!) so I'd rather Cathcart out there or give Morris a chance. Effort beats talent if the talent won't try (or a saying of sorts). Looking forward to it. Edit - just seen they have Canos out as well.
I really really really hope we absolutely trounce these *****, absolutely hideous club. Hopefully they plummet to obscurity. Brentford 0-3 Watford
I don't think it's unreasonable to say that they are probably the most disgusting club we're likely to play this season. Unless we get the cesspit dwellers in the cup.
Like Brentford, loved their old stadium with a pub on every corner. Cannot stand their manager, he's like the evil ugly sisters to Eddie Howes Cindarella. ( An unlikeable, smug cheating Cindarella).
Their stand-in keeper is probably the worst in the division, so with him in and Toney and Canos out there's every reason to be optimistic. Except that we're Watford ....
I dare say there’s a corresponding comment on the Brentford forum saying: ‘Both of their GK’s are as bad, if not worse, than ours. Plus, they have the worst defence in English football so we don’t even need Toney and Canos. Every reason to be optimistic.’
Yes, I like Brentford as well as a club and their fans seem to be mostly a good bunch. Their manager is a little bit annoying admittedly. I don't see an issue with the media loving them they are a small club that are playing in the Premier League for the first time in their history and they have a relatively unique way of doing business, so its understandable really. Having said that I have never got the hype about their team, I knew they would have a good start and be full of enthusiasm but I expect them to be right in the mix for the bottom 3 come the end of the season.
No doubt they will. They've not even had their usual wobbly yet. Starts Friday with a damn good whooping.
I’m probably alone but I quite like their manager. In a parallel universe I think he’d be a great thespian or an actor with a penchant for period dramas. Perhaps a supporting knight in King Arthur.
I'm another Brentford liker, although losing Griffin Park is a major disappointment. One of my favourite grounds for obvious beery reasons. 4Cyclones and I went there for a sunny pre-season friendly a couple of years ago and had an extremely good time. Their fans were quite friendly and chilled. I also remember going there for a midweek evening match years ago (3rd Oct 1977) where we played very well and won easily and satisfyingly. I was accompanied by the girlfriend of the time who was from the Tudor estate and also (for some reason) by her blousy, gone to seed, mother who was one of the leading lights of the Watford and District Divorced and Separated Club. After we'd had a good few pre-match in one of the corner pubs and watched an entertaining win under the floodlights, the mother disappeared off into a dark corner of the carpark, dropped her draws and had a copious, unashamed, horse style, pish. Sticks in my mind for some reason. As for the game this time, I reckon we should be good for a point.
I don’t have anything against Brentford, their manager Lord Farquhar is an annoying little rat, but otherwise they’re an unfashionable yet ambitious and well run club, which is something to be admired for a club like us. Yes it’s a bit annoying how the media fawn over them, but this is their first time in the limelight so that’s par for the course, Bournemouth got it first time around in the same way, whatever happens they won’t get it again as the unfashionable clubs only get to have their fairy story once in the eyes of the media, so it’s only something we have to put up with this season. Anyway, I hope we win. Probably amongst our best chance of a clean sheet all season all things consisted.
It was just a gentle bit of teasing because Leventhal regularly suggests our defenders are capable of playing anywhere in defence (eg. Masina at CB) - and has an obsession with James Morris (not saying you’re obsessed!)
I have to say, I'm shocked to see this fixture on our calendar and on a Friday too! Returning to the Premier League, I had hoped that we'd put playing the likes of Brentford behind us. I've really enjoyed our recent run of games, which, after all, is what the Premier League is all about at the end of the day. Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City - proper football clubs playing proper football. Now we have to head to some probably 3 sided ******** in Middlesex to play a 3rd division side who somehow have cheated their way into the top flight? What on earth is going on? I hope we put out a B side, which should be more than enough for these cloggers and save our best players for proper matches against proper clubs with merchandise and branding. Who even is their manager these days? Is it still Neil Smiley? Smash these bugs.
I'm really disappointed Sky have put this on Friday Night Football rather than one of my other teams like Arsenal or Man City or Chelsea or Spurs. I've tweeted Sky to complain.
I'm delighted to announce that we've rattled yet another fanbase before a ball has even been kicked. https://griffinpark.org/index.php?t...s-fans-say-about-brentford-fc.126658/page-112
The only reason I’ll be watching is if it clashes with a Mrs Browns Boys Xmas Special. Even I’d watch our defenders flail about over that. It’s funnier too.
Imagine if we lose. It's unthinkable. My concern is that the 'run of doom' was massively overhyped and that the players will go into this easier game totally unfocused and overconfident. A solid 3-0 thumping is not that unlikely in my mind. It will be like when we got smashed by Brighton in the first game of the season the other year.
My favourite game was the win against Ma Utd but, of course, I had mixed feelings seeing my glory team beaten by my local team, however, we all wanted Solskjaer sacked, so it had to happen.
I can just about remember him but did he chew gum in the same open mouthed way that Far Queue does? Brentford reminds me of Old Deer Park where Wimbledon pre qualies used to be held. Austin Brice running around the rugby pitch. Happy days. I may dig a tunnel.
Got to hand it to Mr Jay here - he held out as long as he could, and he almost got away with pretending that he wasn't incredibly rattled, but at the very last moment his rattledness caused a brief outbreak of tourettes and inadvertently revealed exactly how rattled he actually is. Better luck next time.
Always remember playing Brentford in a league cup game in the early 90s when they were building the Vicarage Road stand, so the Rookery end was split between home and away fans. The Brentford fans spent most of the game singing about their hate for Watford, which prompted confusion, laughter then lots of anti-Luton songs from us.
