Kiko was also absolutely appalling in our last season in the Premier League and mostly crap the entire time he's been at the club, bar one season at a lower level.

We are better off trying to, for once, improve a young player and give them game time, than persisting with an ageing player who will soon be gone and who has already proven nowhere near good enough for the Premier League.

Great season last season, but I don't want him starting this season.

I too would probably prefer Ngakia to play more than Kiko this season, but wasn't the topic about why the youth didn't play so much last season? Would we have gone up if we'd had Ngakia playing regularly over Kiko?

So basically after his best performance in a WFC shirt, and being arguably the best RB in the championship, you want to get rid of him for an untried teenager nobody has heard of? I'm glad you are not in charge.

Well we’ve seen him at PL level and he was genuinely appalling, why place so much stock in championship performances when we’ve all seen his ability a league higher? What’s changed?

Femi is obviously not the best RB in the world and might not even be the best in our squad.

But I think that partnership he had with Sarr was outstanding last season and that's why I'd be inclined to start with him this year. It will become apparent very quickly if that dynamic down the right is able to work or not in the EPL and then a change can be made if needed.

I mean, I quite clearly explained why. Absolutely awful and constantly torn apart in the league we're now in. Yes he was good in the Championship, great, but it means pretty much f**k all when we're now in a league he's repeatedly shown he's nowhere near good enough for.

So yes, I would play a player who has a lot of potential to improve and grow with game time over him. Your mentality - which is likely the same as the clubs - is exactly why young players fail here over and over again. We prefer to bang our head against a wall with the same failures over and over again rather than giving young players a chance. It's why we've shifted Wilmot in favour of keeping old dross like Cathcart.

What exactly did we sign Ngakia for in your opinion? Just for a laugh? He's also not a teenager, BTW, and West Ham wanted to keep him based on his few appearances in the Premier League and his potential to do the job at that level.

I don't think they were really that bothered he left - they have Ben Johnson who is much better and actually looks PL level already, unlike Ngakia who looked to have more mistakes in him than Femenia while offering less going forwards based on the Championship.

I don't really care about whether Ngakia gets minutes or not, I just want us to stay up, and given that Kiko still seems a better player than Ngakia I'd much rather we stuck with him.

Well he's more experienced in English football, and his performances were far better, also he developed a great understanding with Sarr.
Have you not heard of the concept of players improving?
Put it this way say he played for a championship team that were not promoted, but had the same stats as he had for us last season, if we needed another RB would you be happy for us to sign him, because I would.

Just because you think he has potential doesn't mean he's going to realise it. Look at Success for an example there.
So yes I will take a guy with a damn good season under his belt and a very good understanding with Sarr over an untried, kid.
I'm not saying we shouldn't buy or pick young players just on last seasons performance Kiko has earned the right to start this season.
It's up to him to keep his place.

Kiko had decent spells in the Prem before his bad patch.

I'd give him a chance at the start of the season. Players can improve and he has strengths as well as weaknesses.

Lol, have you not heard of the concept of the football pyramid? It gets easier as you go down the leagues. We got promoted with our eyes closed because we were in the Covid ravaged championship where all the clubs had lost their income and didn’t have a pot to piss in. Meanwhile we kept more of our better players than we otherwise might have.

You genuinely think he’s improved? Rather than just looked better against significantly inferior players most of whom had next to no pace?

He had a great relationship with Sarr going forward, because we dominated most games and the onus was on us to attack. That won’t happen next season, he’ll need to defend, something he’s proven at this level (the premier league) he’s absolutely awful at.

Its genuinely mind blowing that some people would rather base a players potential on performances in the championship, rather than their performances in the actual league we’re in now, bizarre.

I'm sure he thanks you for your heartfelt support.
Who have we got that is better? Ngakia is close but not quite as good. Have you got any knowledge of this Soppy kid? If we even buy him.
Surely you don't want Cathcart at RB again?
This is real life with real lack of funds not FM.

It’s not a question of support, it’s a just a case of choosing to remember his multiple seasons in the premier league, and not believing that a season a league lower will have inexplicably improved a 30 year old player, to the point he can now defend well against the elite.

Seen it bandied around on various places that players like WTE, Bachmann and Zinckernagel will somehow be magically more suited to the Prem than the Championship, but in the case of Kiko, he really was perfectly suited to our situation in the Championship. Ngakia might not be as effective going forward, but he's a better defender, so I'd like to see him play more this season

Well for one, there's nothing to suggest that Ngakia has the same sort of attitude problems as Success, and half the issue with Success was him not being settled anywhere anyway

I wasn't comparing Ngakia to Success.
I was saying just because we sign someone, that's any young player who has potential, it does not automatically follow that they will live up to that billing, and I gave Success as an example of that.

I can't remember vividly, but wasn't Kiko fairly good apart from 19/20, when everyone was pretty ****?

Good. Can’t be coming here with a name like ‘Soppy’. Can’t have players whose name parodies our own defence.
