Never a fan of pubs in biggish towns, always preferred a nice village pub and still do. Only really ever been to the ones in Watford High Street which were always much of a muchness. Honorary mention for the Red Lion by the ground which is one of the worst pubs I've ever been in

Growing up in St Albans in the 70/80s there was no need to go anywhere else for a drink. I only visit Watford now for football, the best shops are gone so the wife doesn’t bother going shopping either. It’s getting like Ipswich, wtf is wrong with the Town planners.

Trouble is, you go in and shout "Hey Moog" and all 23 in the pub turn round.

Not sure if it was the case 10 years ago but now has an adjoining Thai restaurant which is exceptional for value.

Shout out to the Essex Arms in the 80s and early 90s. Its a monstrosity nowadays since its been smuglied up, but back then it was laff.

There used to be batty barmaid called Hilda, who was lovely but couldnt remember an order over 1 drink so large rounds had to be related one by one causing much consternation on a Friday night.

Trouble with that Thai restuarant is the food is so good that you cant get a seat in the pub.

New pop up bar coming to Watford Market in the next month or so focusing on ale and craft beers.
