So it's clear Holebas has not really settled and embraced playing for the club, now there is an apparent issue with Berghuis.

Got to question Pozzo recruitment.

Isn't it meant to be so good because it looks at personality traits etc?

With the tactics on the pitch and QSF's public shaming of players off it, I wonder how morale is right now.

 

Surprised Berghuis not in the squad particularly as Jurado injured, as for Holebas he didn't really want to move, it was rather forced on him

I reckon there probably was a degree of "I've never heard of Watford before, so I should be able to walk into their starting XI".

 

Don't blame Berghuis. Big money signing and not given a start in a team struggling to create chances. Why wouldn't he be hacked off?

The interaction of the manager and the fringe players is starting to worry me.

 

me too and his negative tactics and less than great use of subs , he prepares for games in meticulous manner apparantly yet doesnt react to fast changing circumstance!
apart from that he is great and just what we need .:dismay:
won europa league 5 yrs back so is in touch with upto date tactical fashion .

 

There has been nothing about Berghuis yet to suggest he should be in the team.

I completely get QSF's attitude on this - our players have to 100% right - if they are not this league will find them out. I don't doubt Holebas is good enough, but he can't afford to lose a few % through lack of application.

Today we missed Behrami and Jurado - it wasn't the fringe players we missed. QSF's treatment of Paredes and Dyer speaks volumes. Get on with it and you'll be in the shake up.

Berghuis is no Fabbrini at the moment. Needs to go on loan and perhaps take his Dad with him.

 

How do we know that Berghuis is hacked off?

 

I personally think the head coach has got it spot on.......just as Jokanovic did. Identify the "bad apples" and weed them out. Not saying that Berghuis is a bad apple, but he must have shown something this week that Flores didn't like.

Can anyone honestly say the team missed Berghuis today? Not really.....and this is probably the point he's trying to make to the player. His crossing was poor against Palace and his tracking back was weak and just done as a token gesture.

If he wants to play he has to up his game......and this is very good management of the squad and what Flores is paid to do.

 

I would say that Joka stuck to his guns and it worked for him. He was initially less than popular and we often looked lacking in the first couple of months after he took over. Points are what counts and we have 10 of them from 8. Carry on in this disastrous fashion and we'll stay up.

 

I'm starting to think we have a local media outlet with an attitude problem. Everything blown up to crisis point. "Player has poor week in training" is no where near as interesting.

QSF is probably a bit too honest though.

 

Woah woah woah, where has it been said Berghuis has an attitude problem apart from WD Sport stirring it yet again. To me Quique is clearly saying it's difficult to pick the squad because every player wants to be in it obviously and if you're not in it then you've got to improve and show him that you can do the job he wants. Berghuis might have got complacent after coming on as a sub a few times and his training has dropped below the level required. No need to make out he has an attitude problem. The guy himself said when he joined that the Premier League is a massive step up from Dutch football and he needs to improve to play in this league. He'll have dodgy games, dodgy weeks in training and he'll find it tough sometimes. Now hopefully he'll use the next two weeks to show Quique that he can raise his level to what is required.

 

WD Sport do have a tendency to blow things out of proportion don't they.

 

They like to be a bit spiky & controversial like The Sun newspaper. It's entertaining IMO but you have to take some of it with a pinch of salt.

 

Even Berghuis said himself he's not PL ready.

I actually think QSF is testing him. We know QSF will only pick those who have trained all week and that includes attitude...carrot or stick.

Attitude is the critical part of it, at AZ he was one of the first names on the teamsheet, here...he's not a big fish and has to prove himself.

The biggest question here is QSF a 'man manager'?

Personally, I actually like someone who treats everyone the same, there's no ambiguity...his way or the highway.

 

Flores has treated him with contempt so far.....including ignoring him as an option late in last week and getting him to warm up for half an hour today, sit down again then give him 30 seconds....no wonder he looked cheesed off too

 

Come on guys, this is Premier League football. Bigger players, bigger egos, these kind of incidents are part and parcel.

Hopefully we can stay in the Prem for a few years and get experienced at handling these kind of issues.

 

I agree, I'm starting to get a bit annoyed at their frequent stirring. This season is going to be tough enough without local media putting pressure on the team and turning fans against certain players, it's not helpful.

The manager/coach drops a player from the squad, the player (understandably) isn't too pleased, the manager says the player needs to prove he deserves a place - it happens every week at clubs, its hardly news.

 

At the rate of one player per week, we're going to have problems naming a full squad.

I mean, we're going to believe that all the players who were shipped out in the summer, plus the ones who are being marginalised now are the ones with the problem, rather than the one common element, Signor Flores.

Fair to say Affleck is a **** stirrer of some standing, thinking back to his WO tenure.

 

I heard Doyley is refusing to sign a new deal until Flores has gone.

 

I heard he's holding out for a five year deal

 

That kind of goes against Deeney's comments in the last week or so but I suppose it's natural for Watford fans to be hysterical because we didn't win today.

 

It used to be a case that we'd buy 5 players for 250k, 3 would be ****, 1 would be good and 1 would play 100 matches before getting sold for 1-2m.

These days we buy 15 players for 25m, hope 1 is the next alexis sanchez, 5 will be first team successes, a couple will be OK and the others will fall out with the manager through lack of first team chances.

Also I had concerns over berghuis since the comment about the money talking. He's done jack in the few appearances he has had as well.

How do we go from "For players going out of the squad, it is important they think about what Watford need from them and they need to think hard about what they need to do to get back onto the squad list" to "OMFG Berghuis fell out with QSF!!!!!!one1!"?

All he is saying is that players who aren't first choice need to give the head coach a reason to pick them over someone else. How is this news or even remotely close to "falling out"?

It's almost as if WD Sport are sensationalising things because they earn money from page clicks.

I'm surprised he was that restrained. I didn't much care for our football in 07/08, but KA's reports on games were really nauseating, talk about having an agenda. Best of all was his desperate puff piece for Ellington - 'LIke putting petrol in a diesel engine'. Bugger off back to the Gulf ASAP.

 

Why has this thread been merged with the Berghuis one? It's clearly a wider discussion about media and QSF's dealings with the squad and little to do the player. The merging goes silly around here at times.
