When Gino likes a player he really doesn't give up does he. He wanted Fletcher for ages and finally got him even though the signing made no sense. Now it might be the same with Afobe who we were after a couple of years ago.
He scored 10 goals in the second half of the season, and although Millwall fans don't seem massively enthused some think he should manage 15-20 in the next one. Stoke also will let him go on a free. If he's willing to be a sub then it doesn't sound a completely terrible signing to replace Fletcher as our loathed and laughed at backup forward.
44 goals in 203 games over the last 6 years FWIW. So about a goal every 4 games though I guess many will have been as a sub ?
Intuitively not a great option. But will have worked with Rob at Wolves and would be cheap. If he’s here to be a squad option, we could do a lot worse. If he’s here to start every week...

I always thought Afobe used to be quite decent, it's just not very inspiring. If Edwards knows him and wants to work with him then I don't think any of us can argue with that. Alternatively Gino knows Afobe only has a year left on his deal, he wanted him back in 2018 and Edwards wants a striker. There you go Rob, you wanted a striker and we got you one.

Tbf, we're also chasing Archer on loan and Keinan Davis who has plenty of years ahead of him, a blend of youth and experience is fine. Naturally I hope we aren't pinning all our hopes on Benik Afobe all season, but as a squad option, there are far worse out there
