Once good now making basic goalkeeping errors.

Is he spending more time on his you tube channel than Watford FC?

His latest tweet has seen an angry response from WFC fans.

Foster does not seem to take his job seriously.

If you play for Watford you should have no outside interests that could hinder your focus on the job. This being social media and wider media.

Another example of player power that the hapless Pozzo and Duxbury fail to stamp out.

(it would come as no surprise to me that they sanctioned this shambles in exchange for a reduced wage)

Well no-one was complaining last week when we won or in previous games when he has played well so it's all about the timing of the videos and comments made.

The videos itself are fine but joking about the fact an opposition striker scored and celebrated in front of the Go Pro less than 24 hours after the game isn't it.

I suppose it does give an insight into how the pros live although really it's pretty repetitive now...

Least he is keeping fit by cycling - although that does seems to be cancelled out by then having some sort of bacon butty afterwards!

I think he said before he wants to cycling tours when he retires which won't be too long.

I will say that there have certainly been people complaining when we won, and when we drew, and any time from the outset - it's a ludicrous thing for him to be paying any attention to at any point in the game day scenario, and it both makes us look both silly and, as we saw writ large yesterday afternoon, draws a further giant target on our backs.

It's just another distraction and another contribution to the current phenomenon I mentioned in another thread; that it's almost like we're playing at being a professional club instead of actually being one. Add it to Troy's own media contributions, as some posters have, and it all starts to look a bit ******* laughable. Are we a football team, or an influencer agency?

Yes - maybe it's not the wisest thing to use during a game but he has been more honest about performances than others have been on it.

TBH I am surprised it's managed to last so long without being damaged.

I don’t think Fosters is a distraction, I don’t really see it being different to any hobbies footballers might have outside of football. I’m sure plenty of them play golf all the time. I think what it probably is though is a reflection of the fact that Foster is bored and near the end of his career which reflects in some of his performances of late. The YT stuff isn’t the distraction, the guy is just generally distracted.

On the other hand for a club that is notoriously secretive, allowing Deeney on a radio station that needs to constantly generate sensationalist audio click bait is extremely ill advised.

Pros are used to having cameras around them from all angles so I can’t imagine it’s too much of a distraction. Unless he’s there genuinely thinking ‘how can I make this more interesting’ and I don’t think he would do that. He’s a GK so mistakes look bad, but at this level he’s a class player and one area of the team I don’t worry about. His fitness levels are excellent and can aid a GK more than you’d imagine I would guess.

Players need hobbies, things to do outside of training / matches. Doubt there are many on here constantly working 24/7?

I knew a guy who turned pro at 18 and he said he and his flat mate would get home from training before lunch on some occasions and his day was done - said it wasn’t unusual to open a bottle of wine and waste the day away. Slightly different era but I’d rather something productive than that or illegal lockdown parties.

Literally no one here is suggesting the fact of the gopro's lens being trained on him is what would be distracting him in any way. He's recording in the dressing room before and after games for ****'s sake. The idea of distraction is as much part of a wider lack of appropriate attitude and concern for the situation the club are in, of which filming his own goalmouth for his personal youtube channel is emblematic.

The old pros mention the youngsters nowadays always having phones out, taking selfies and posting on social media in the dressing room. Seems it’s a fairly common thing so I doubt Fosters is any more of a distraction than those doing similar things from other clubs.

In changing rooms before games you don’t spend every single second being 100% switched on and focussed, there’s a moment when that starts, pre that is often the chill / banter time.

Not that I’ve ever been in a professional football teams change room on a match day so maybe I’m wrong.

Yeah, sure, but I feel like you're addressing a previous post rather than the one you replied to - I explained what the feeling is actually about, and that it's not literally suggesting that he's late out at the half cos he's editing videos on his laptop.

Just one of many in our squad who are past their best and don’t have the desire or hunger to do the little things that got them toward the top of their procession.

What’s particularly galling about Foster is his happiness at broadcasting how little he cares.

Bring back Dahlberg as soon as possible. Another whose career has been mismanaged.

We buy these starlets and never actually see them in action for the first team in competitive football. Just assets to be sold on after maturing elsewhere. If they did that and then fed back into the first team I would not be so annoyed and then they might be sold on but our club simply is not in the loop.

Ivic must have been delighted to find Estupinan sold after he took over and then left with no replacement. As has been said many times we have an ageing squad that lacks hunger and ambition. Sensible clubs move older players on sometimes by only offering limited extensions and reductions in salary. We do the opposite. It has become a retirement home for some. The younger players we have seen this season which includes Sarr, Wilmot, Ngakia, Pedro, Dele-Bashiru when he played have stood out because they have that desire to improve and no doubt move on up the ladder. Nothing wrong with that. I would not begrudge them it.

Had we removed the deadwood which takes someone with cojones to do we could have a young upwardly mobile squad with room to make additions. Not a chance.

Come on, come on, get out there Luke. Good lad...... Yawn it is tedious to watch his videos. They are pretty similar. The comedy is hardly of the level of Buster Keaton although our defence can be relied on for slapstick laughter for opponents. Retire. Play your golf, coach or whatever it is you want to do Ben but don't take the mickey from supporters. We care even if you don't.

Ok so I’ve read the message again - so if I have it correct this time, people are upset / annoyed because rather than Ben being upset / annoyed and going home and analysing his performance etc he’s straight onto his video where he’s coming across as not that fussed. Whilst us fans are down in the dumps over a poor performance and result this looks like it’s not replicated by the players?

I suppose it would be wiser to not do this for that reason, but then I guess another view is if it bothers you (not literally you) then don’t watch it? I still don’t believe it effects his match day performance and isn’t illegal/ immoral so I don’t personally have an issue with it.

I’ve also only watched one of them, it was alright but I’m not from the ‘YouTube celebrities’ era (unlike my children).

You're closer, for sure, but the first thing to tell you is that I don't watch it. Not a single one; I never have.

The issue is still not quite that - people aren't as much concerned with him rubbing our noses in the loss in a roundabout way, knowing that we care about it more than him. It's how it indicates that fact; that we care about it more than him. But even more so, perhaps, than most imagined.

And it makes you question whether he cares about it enough at all, fundamentally, to be doing what he needs to be doing, and indeed recognising what that is in the first place, to be performing at the top of his game and not making idiotic decisions/mistakes that lead to us conceding goals with somewhat increasing frequency.

There is then also to a lesser extent the whole 'have some bloody decorum' argument - don't post stupid 'ooh errr matron' memes on your twitter, very largely followed by Watford fans, taking the piss out of the fact that you conceded a stupid goal after making a mistake for the second (of three) time in the space of three games. Conceding that goal, and, indeed, the one after that, means something to everyone watching (the football, not the youtube channel). That kind of post makes it appear as though it really doesn't to him.

I don't think it's a 'distraction' as such, because people make mistakes, and I have no issue with his YouTube channel normally, but what rankles from yesterday was the pure enthusiasm even though he played a big role in us losing...ffs we know football ain't the be all and end all for him, but there's a time and a place to be a grinning idiot

Where is the Deeney thread and vote on this sort of subject as what he is doing is far worse than what Ben is doing.

I know Ben is getting on, but he is still rated as the best Keeper in the Championship by many Watford outsiders not just WFC fans and I think we are lucky to still have him.

I don't get this recent clamour from some on here to get rid of him, he makes mistakes on occasion but so do all professional footballers. However, not all footballers make as many match saving contributions as Ben does for us. His overall good performances for us far outweighs his relatively few mistakes IMO, and I'm sure we will all be sad when he finally leaves us.

So why don't you get off the guys back or we might end up losing sooner rather than later and mark my words we will all be sorry when he does go, as we possibly won't see his like at Watford again for many years.

I don't think it is much of a ditraction for Ben but he is making mistakes more frequently which I would put down to his age rather than the cycling GK stuff. Plus Ben says started his channel to bring the fans a little closer to thematch day whilst they cannot be there.

I did have an issue with Deeney talking about the club buisness on the national radio though. Talking about Ivic's sacking live on air the day afterwards was disrespectful in my opinion and the last thing the club captain needed to do was draw attention on the situation.
