    Probably an Arsenal reject.

When he's fit to play Assombalonga has a pretty decent scoring record in the Championship so if 'Boro see him as the man to shoot 'em back to the Premier League then the fee and wages reported aren't so inflated considering the riches garnered with promotion.

For a team like little ol' Watford then the fee is probably about right for a young home grown talent with potential.
The wages would be extravagant though as I'd doubt he'd be anything but a sub at the start of the season.

I think they paid £5.5m so it's a bit more than £4m, more like £8.5m profit they make.

Assuming there's a standard sell on between Forest and P'Boro of £1.275m (15%), we should then get half as per our agreement with Burra, so £637,500

It might not get us another player but its a damn good night out

Not sure Forest fans will be happy selling him to a fellow Championship side..

So its down to Britt , play in the Prem or play in championship , or is all about the money for him , hoping there might be a twist to this tale yet.

The wages do seem rather high if true, so although we could afford it these days, is he worth that much, the fee possibly yes by todays standards, but the wages no me thinks!

Having said that, we really do need to start thinking bigger if we are going to compete in the PL, and we might just have to pay those sort of wages for a quality striker, as we desperately need at least one if not two of that sort of calibre, but I don't think Britt fits that bill!

60k a week would be much better spent on a striker that will start for us. I like Assombalonga but you wouldn't have him as your main striker in the Premier League.

Agreed. The deal is much lower risk for Boro as Britt will start and is already proven in the Championship.

Yep. I'm not bothered by this at all - I'd much rather the fee and wages went towards someone better.

Only a great move for Britt if Middlesbrough get promotion.

For us its a no go as you can't sign a injury prone Championship striker and immediately make him one of the highest earners at the club. He might turn out like Vydra, not being Premiership standard.

The fee isn't that crazy in the current market, but £60k a week is ludicrous

I'd pay him half that at most

Middlesbrough are about to land Braithwaite so maybe they aren't in for Assombalonga?

I read a story recently saying that the teams that go down down are now likely to spend more than teams that go up to the prem. Investing more of their parachute payments in one go to get them back up. If they don't go up and spend more than 2 years in the champ after going down then they'll have to start selling their high earners like Norwich are doing this season.

Newcastle just over £50million when they went down.

Yeah that makes sense to be honest, worked for Newcastle after all. The other side to that is the spending that needs to be done in order to avoid the drop, which we are doing little of so far this window.

Hopefully all the proper business is being done behind the scenes and we'll only find out about new signings when they turn up for a medical etc

Gossip in the forest forums that Assombalonga is starting to make noises about wanting a move. So potentially may hand in a transfer request.

Hardly surprising given Middlesbrough's reported £60k per week contract offer. Suspect this is probably treble his current salary.

60k pw. Jesus Boro are really backing Monk. No doubt they will be there or there about come the end of the season.
I'm still amazed that there willing to offer those types of wages.

Teams that go down now spend as much if not more than those that go down. Newcastle spent £50million when they went down. If they don't go back up then they have to begin asset stripping.

Brainwaithe and Assombalonga are both very good players for Championship level. If that's their front 2 for the season I expect to see them back in the Prem next year. I would've been happy with us stealing in and either of them coming here

I dread to the think what they're paying Braithwaite. He's been linked with PL clubs the last couple of seasons. Watford at one point.

Must be their highest paid player? Or at least very close. A bit gutted to see both those players go to Boro tbh, but fair play to them for showing ambitions.

Would like to see us take a leaf out of their book and sign a good striker now

I know Middlesbrough are throwing a lot of money as him. But I don't think a Watford deal is dead in the water. If Britt wants PL football he'll just say no and request that he's allowed to talk to Watford and Burnley.

The deal, for me, is about as alive at the Chalobah deal.

Fair point, the Assombalonga deal is still far from complete! I'm at the point where I just want us to show some ambition when it comes to a good quality striker. Don't mind if it's Assombalonga or someone I've never heard of from Italy providing they score

It's not surprising that clubs decide to go for it in their first year back in The Championship. With the new parachute payment system, clubs have 2 years on Premier League money, so better for them to spend big initially and sign players on 2 year deals whilst they can afford it than spread it over a few seasons. If they go straight back up, happy days; if they don't, they're not exposed for longer than the big money is coming in.

Should any of these clubs not go straight back up, I'd expect they would be spending less and offering Championship level wages in their second season down.

Didn't Boro pay Alan Bocsich (spell check) 60k a week when he joined them and at that time he was the highest paid player in the premier league. They have always had a couple of high earners in their team. Juninho, Emerson, Ravinelli, Ziege etc. Phil stamp

Now that Boro have signed Braithwaite, will they now want Britt? Or could we now step back in for him?

So he will be signing for us then, by that reckoning, as chalobah is now a Watford player!!!
