Maybe. Yet to see definitive proof that he’s even an upgrade on those names - seems to be just what people are hoping for more than anything else!

26 in 4 months time. It's good to sign a player at his peak rather than one of these promising youngsters.
Ok it's time to pull the drawbridge up ! The summer business is done. We are ready. C'MON !!

There is none. Fletcher scored less goals than Gray last season yet is supposedly an upgrade.

I'd be fine if the usual suspects called this like it is. A crappy signing for free. We could all agree and everything would be dandy.

Even funnier is the likes of WD18 and the other podcasters falling over themselves to call this a genius move on Twitter.

Gray had a better season last season, but I'd rather Fletcher than him as our emergency 3rd/4th striker seeing as Fletcher is (hopefully!) on a much smaller wage. Sadly, it's not necessarily an either or situation!

    Dreadful signing.

They must have been too embarrassed to announce how long he has signed for

You're welcome to your opinion of course but I couldn't care less what Gray has done in the past, I'm sick of seeing him in a Watford shirt now and I would quite literally play a National League South player ahead of him.

  7. Gray can't hit a cows arse with a banjo, a dead goldfish would be a better option on the bench

  8. Gray can't make a run, trap a ball, pass a ball, head a ball, shoot straight, tackle, press, and he has an attitude with a stupid chip on his shoulder.

As long as Fletcher can do one of those things, just one, he's better than Gray.

And with Fletchers vastly inferior record up to the same point in his career as Gray, you’re confident he can?

He’s been signed as a striker, so if he can’t score goals as well as Gray, but he can do all the things you list better, how on Earth does that help us?

  12. Can't score goals as well as Gray?!

What is his goal rate for us, 1 in 5 if that?

We've watched him with our own eyes for 4(?) years and he is truly woeful, an appalling footballer barely league 1 standard

I like the fact that the minute he is in - Gino has stretched him by 4" and hes now 6ft 5" according to the official site .... but was 6ft 1" prior to signing for us hahaha !!!

Fletcher has scored 19 goals in 120 games, all at championship level, oh and…

Let’s hope he is just back up to replace Gray , Deeney etc .

And we are signing a couple of better quality strikers.

  16. Forget stats. What do your own eyes tell you? How many games have you been delighted to see Gray start?

I have no idea about Fletcher, could be dog****. I just don't see any downside as we know Gray is dog****. He can't be worse.

A honest post. No making out Fletcher is any good, just telling it like it is. Anyone but Gray. Fair play.

We’re going round in circles, what is their actual job in the team… to score goals surely?? Gray has a significantly better record of doing that.

It will be fantastic if Fletcher can trap a ball better than Gray, but what about his actual job?

I'm open minded on this one. Is he an upgrade on Gray or Deeney? I'd say no. But has he the ability to improve? Then I would say yes, there is a chance he could step up and overtake Gray/Deeney in terms of being a threat on the pitch. Will he be a decent Premier League striker.....probably not, but as a guy to come off the bench of give you something different he'll be an option.

If he's our number one striker for this season, then I'd be worried. If he's an alternative from the bench or squad player to replace Perica, then I'm happy with the signing. It all depends on who else we bring in as to how I see this signing.

  21. Like everyone here I’ve sat and watched that useless turd for 4 seasons, and have seen nothing that convinces me he is capable of scoring goals regularly if barely at all in the PL.

You can argue until you are blue in the face. I trust what my own eyes have shown me.

Edit: his record is even worse than I imagined, c1 goal in 6.

Which is all fine….if your original post hadn’t said he was an ‘upgrade’ and a ‘better Plan B’ than those other strikers. You’re using Gray’s stats against him but ignore the stats that say Fletcher is worse!

I suspect you’d have got a better response if you just said Fletcher is crap but at least he won’t be a financial burden like the others have been.

  24. He is an upgrade, even if he turns out to be crap.

Gray is an absolute fraud of a footballer.

I just don't get the logic?

You've seen Gray and are convinced no player could ever be worse - despite the stats of many a footballer, including Fletcher, proving otherwise?

Imagine the bedwetting if he starts our first friendly.

Would be followed by full on meltdown if he starts our first league game.

I have no idea what the financing of this deal is but i would guess its pretty economical. If he contributes more than Success or Welbeck did in the Premier league for us, then as a second/third string forward i cant see the problem. He does not take away a valuable overseas place in the squad.

It is an early signing and I expect other striking options will be added to the squad.

What straw is it I’m grasping at? I’ve got no dog in this fight. He looks an underwhelming signing for the Premiership to say the least, but it’s possible he could still improve.

I like him, he's already bantering off Deeney and Gray in his first interview.

"I'm not just a big man, I'm mobile too... I like to think I'm decent on the ball"

    Have some of that! #teamfletch

It’s only economical AFTER Gray, Success, Perica and Penaranda are gone. Until then….

Nothing like that to do with the player, just the idea that people will be 'bedwetting' if he starts the first friendly, as though the world and his dog aren't aware of what preseason friendlies are.
