If there was one thing the Alpha Wolf hated it was the smell of paint. Nice, new, fresh, paint. It made his stomach heave, so every time he went near the village decorator he had the urge to inflict severe violence. Unfortunately for Otter tonight was the night he was giving his front room a nice fresh coat of the stuff. A nice royal blue.
The Alpha was still thinking over who to kill tonight when he passed by Otters open windows. He got a good whiff of the Dulux which just set him off, and once the Alpha got going he wasn’t going to be stopped. He burst through the open windows, grabbed a shocked Otter and carried him fast out the back and away from the vile smell.
Otter was eaten alive in the forest, blood literally cascading over the forest floor. Most people think blue and red make a nice purple hue, but blue paint and lots of red blood just makes black. The Alpha was delighted with his custom mix.

    Otter was good

The Alpha Wolf rested. He slept deeply.

The Beta Wolf was hungry. He quickly made his choice of whom to visit and crept slowly along the lanes until finally at his destination. He snuck inside with minimum fuss and quickly located his heavily snoring target. He moved close enough to feel the heat of his victims rich blood but strangely could not smell the delicious odour. Thinking this was a bit strange he carefully pulled back the bedsheet until in horror he saw not skin but fur!

Laying there deep in slumber was the Alpha Wolf. Eyes wide as saucepans the Beta carefully slid back the covers and crept out of the dwelling, hungry but alive. The Beta now knew the identity of the Alpha. “Well I never thought it would be them” mumbled the Beta. He laughed out loud.

Grrwood couldn’t sleep, he was worried about his business. “How can I measure people for suits from 2 meters away” he mumbled. He decided to go for a late night walk as he sometimes did when he was worried. He walked towards the old mining area in the east of town. Grrwood's mistake was not taking a torch as he didn’t see the sinkhole approaching. He dropped 200 feet in a matter of seconds, the shock silencing him. His body shattered as it hit the bottom of the hole.

    Grrwood was good

    The sun rose.

Grrwood contacted me last night saying he couldn't play in this game due to unforseen circumstances so I had to kill him off.
I've removed the joker, (they were still alive), to help balance up the game slightly.

So we’ve either got an inexperienced seer, or we’ve taken out a tinker.

Early messages today would be helpful.

Remember Seer to write who you selected on both day 1 and 2.

So both the Alpha and Beta went for Otter - will have a look over Otter's messages yesterday to see if there was any reason.

Doubt Otter was a random selection. He's played the game well in the past and has relied on logic more than others so guessed that marked him out as an early target. RIP you semi aquatic rodent!

As for the write up, I interpreted it that the Alpha went for Otter and the Beta went for the Alpha. It also seems to suggest that now the Beta knows the Alpha but not the other way round. If they both chose the same kill, they'd know each other but as the Alpha never woke up we have to presume they don't know the Beta.

Finally, do we have a Guardian? Usually we hear whose house they stood outside, don't we? Unless either they forgot to exercise this choice, or @Diamond forgot it in the write up?

No, the Alpha went for Otter, the Beta went for whoever the Alpha is.

Otter yesterday claimed he knew who Messager 1 might be, but said it would be "unsafe" for him to name names - perhaps that's what got him killed? Turns out it might have been better for him to have just said something....

    R.I.P. Otter and Grrwood.

Hopefully we get clearer messages today.

In hindsight, Otter suggested that he had possibly worked out the author of Message 1 which made him an obvious kill. If he'd worked out the Seer, he could back their viewings up and if he suspected the Alpha already, they might as well kill him.

Agree that Beta wolf knows Alpha but not the other way round.

Otter is a very decent player so I suspect he's simply been targeted for that. Frustrating.

Well it's rather jolly I'll say that...

We still don't know for sure that the Seer didn't view Nisman as the tinker or fool yesterday.

    Await message 2.

No, Alpha went for Otter and Beta went for Alpha.

Suggests that the Alpha might have done something to threaten the Beta or appear to be useful to the village, or possibly that the Beta just chose someone at random and got lucky. The Beta will presumably try to reach out to the Alpha to let them know, at some point (IIRC the alpha wouldn't know who the Beta was from the viewing).

My hunch is that the 2nd message yesterday and the 1st message today (only so far) are from the seer, as if from the wolf, naming 2 as good already would be too restrained. Throwing out random people as named evil helps the wolves as we gradually lynch more of our own.

I think we just have a crappy seer, rather than Nisman being the Tinker (Diamond telling us he removed the Fool, confirms that there is only one role that Nisman could possibly have been, to be legitimately viewed as evil but actually be good).

Gut feeling that today's message wasn't written by the same person as Message 2 yesterday. Second message today will be interesting.

As there is no Guardian, be very careful about publicly confirming anyone as Good using deduction, as they will then immediately become a target for the wolves that night and won't be able to protect themselves.

It's actually one of my weak points. I hate in quizzes when Roman numerals come up. I'm good at Greek letters though.

    Why do you think this?

As far as I understand, the wolves only learn each others identities by viewing the same person.

If the beta chooses to kill the alpha, then the alpha should be dead.

  27. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

That's what I thought and what I think happened in the last game but the rules for this one say that a wolf can't kill another wolf.

    It's quite easy, for example...

    I = 1
    II = 2 (because there are 2)
    III = 3 (because there are 3)

    Glad to have helped.

    and from the rules:

IF two wolves pick the same person to kill over night - they will learn of each others identities but will not communicate outside of the game. If either wolf picks another wolf to kill, they will know the identity of the wolf they picked but the chosen wolf will not know which player went for them them. Wolves cannot kill each other in this particular game.

    Morning all.
Hope you all enjoyed your free drinks last night - I am now the bankrupt village landlord.
RIP Otter - cruel of the wolf to go for the player who ran the last game on the first night!
Re the Alpha, they are obviously covering their tracks well for the Beta to go for them last night.
Harsh, moog, to criticise the seer so early in the game; let’s not get all judgemental. Let’s just wait for the next message.

Diamond when you say Joker you mean April Fool ?

So hes gone and if Nisman was the tinker then we are left just 3 people who could be seen as evil. Of course Nisman may not have been the tinker.

The (first) message this morning seems very likely to be the same poster as the second message yesterday imo. Very similar , enigmatic writing style.

  34. Optimistichornet

I'm sorry happy but i agree with Moog. The seer completely messed up if that second message was indeed theirs, we basically have lost a day of the seer being useful. I also cannot see a world where nisman was the tinker, and diamond decides to remove the fool after one day. That would be tilting the odds too much in goods favour. So the conclusion to come to is that the first message yesterday was the wolf and the second message was from a seer who was trying to be too clever and led to utter confusion.

Personally, I still think Lowerrous needs to provide a better explanation as to why he voted for himself yesterday.

He and Nisman were a couple of lines apart, so the 'voted for himself by mistake' isn't washing for me.
