He may bag 20 goals this season in the Premiership. Then we will be crying out for him to resign. Truth is, I cannot knock his work rate of getting into goal scoring positions
but his finishing at (most) times is League One level at best. If he goes it's a big slice of finance back in our favor.

If Middlesbrough read this forum, they won’t buy him. Can some fake accounts be set up talking us how he good he is.

Yes its so annoying having a 1 goal in 3 games goalscorer in the squad when we have 4 non goal scoring strikers in Deeney Perica Success and Feltch. Might as well play Harry the hornet as our #9.

Yeah but Gray misses sometimes and his control and passing are suspect. Goals aren't everything. We need and deserve the complete striker. He's out there somewhere .......and available for £5-8m.

Actually we did get some news while the forum was down:

It's been confirmed that Gray is actually leaving us this summer!

....but sadly it's just to play for Jamaica in the Concacaf Gold Cup in the US starting on Monday.

Nobody will pay what wages we are paying him so I think he will stay and see out his contract, plus with the wife about to drop a baby he will want to be around.

According to The Athletic, seems to be an underlying story that we aren't best pleased with him disappearing off to the Gold Cup whilst his future is up in the air.

Could either be because it shows he's not bothered about proving himself in pre-season - or that he's happy to go there and put any transfer on the back-burner.

I still think we are gonna be stuck with him this season. I don't think he will play any part whatsoever - but he'll be an expensive bystander.

Jet off to the Gold Cup for a few weeks of sun, refuse to discuss future while away, come back too late to be sold, sit on a 70k a week contract for the season.

    Well played Andre, well played.

  15. Can’t we ship him out on loan to Mongolia or somewhere and pay half his wages? At least it will save a few quid

  16. HeiaWatford

You've nailed it. We'll have his horrendous wages to shell out for another 12 months.

It’s got ‘desperately seeking a move for Gray on deadline day - but no takers’ written all over it.

I can imagine what Leventhal's article will say the day after the window closes.

"There was plenty of interest in Gray but a deal never materialised. The decision was made to keep Gray in the 25 man squad while Cucho Hernandez sealed a loan move to Valencia just before the deadline."

    February 1st 2022.

“The club decided against bolstering their misfiring frontline in the January window. Summer signings Dennis, Fletcher and King have so far perhaps shown why their stock was so low - yet there is a firm belief in London Colney that a fit and firing Andre Gray bolsters the ranks and a returning Isaac Success, fresh off 2 substitute appearances for CSKA Sofia, is always another option. There is also confidence that Troy Deeney will start to eat into his yearly 20-goal target any day now - it’s certainly needed after 90% of their squad has spent the last month at the African Cup of Nations.”

Surely the answer is to pay off Gray with 6 months wages, he then can sign a contract with another club (say Millwall, QPR, Sunderland etc) getting a signing on fee equal or better than the remains 6 months of his contract. He would then be able to play regularly for his new club.

That’s £2.1m the club would have to find in one go rather than 70k every week or 350k a month. And it would also require the player to accept that outcome - when it actually appears as though he’s happy to just do what he’s doing. Can’t see why he would walk out on a years guaranteed salary. I don’t think your suggestion is the best way to go at all on that basis.

We clearly don’t have much money so shelling out £2.1m which can go elsewhere isn’t really wise. The best way to go is to just make him available on a free transfer and enter into negotiations about supplementing his weekly wage with any interested parties. None of those clubs you have listed (or similar) are going to pay him anywhere near even 50% of what he earns here - clubs are tightening their belts, not blowing 25k a week at Championship level for Andre Gray, plus a £1m+ signing on fee.

I suspect we are trying to get a fee for him personally.

Gray is not quite at Steve Kabba levels yet. I expect he will start the odd game in rotation and def in the crappy league cup games we never do well in. He can start away at Citee though, we'll lose regardless of who plays. :D

Sunderland already have three players earning over £25k per week

  25. Burnsy

So? They haven’t been signed to fresh deals on that amount and are by-products of poor decisions previously. You don’t eradicate poor decisions by making more of them.

Not to mention there is no way that Andre Gray will drop down to L1!

Edit: What 3 players are Sunderland paying over 25k to? Because a cursory Google doesn’t find any evidence of that, nowhere near in fact!

We could have done it 3 times over if Pozzo hadn’t extracted 7.5 million from us on Pussetto. Amazing that farce hasn’t caused more outrage when we have only a few coins to rub together.

Big day for him today. Hopefully he gets into the Jamaica starting lineup and bags a couple. Perhaps some desperate idiot will agree to take him.

He's obviously aware of the 'love' he gets in South Herts - so I can see him waiting just training with the team for a year, never getting a game then going up the M1 for a hero's welcome...

Shirely there must be some sort of 'downing tools' clause in his contract?

  34. folkestone orn

    folkestone orn Squad Player

You would like to think such clause exists, but I doubt it's measurable.

It's also unlikely that we would notice Gray downing tools.

Tbf to Gray, he's always been a limited player, even during his hot streak for Burnley, but can he ever be accused of downing tools on the pitch? I suspect he won't go back to the scum, unless he agrees to take a 90%+ wage cut, he could always go somewhere like Middlesbrough or West Brom if he wants a nicer area and more money!
