I’m all for bringing in a striker because we’ve not had one worthy of the name since Iggy, but the amount of junk we’ve already accumulated in that position is mind boggling. We need to start flushing the turds ASAP but so far in this window we’ve just added two more.
Fletcher is crap, King is ok but potentially crap, Cucho we already owned. If we signed Armstrong we’d have what, 8 strikers? Which is totally mental. You don’t need more than 4, if that.
I can't believe it's the end of July and we still have Perica and Success here. Gray I can understand, he's been away and he's on far too much money for any Championship club. We are awful at selling our unwanted players, probably because they're so **** in the first place. Thank god we've got Udinese.
It is mental when you consider Troy Deeney is starting every game. All we needed this summer was a backup for him.
Scored the same number of goals as our top 3 goal scores last season combined. Anything close to £15m would be a no-brainer.
In all honesty if Newcastle want Hughes they should buy Armstrong from Blackburn and just swap him with us. They have got a big 40% sell on fee.
Palace are splashing the cash. Don’t know what cash they’re splashing since their losses last year were £60m (compared to ours of £30m). Obviously we haven’t got either sides 20-21 accounts yet but wouldn’t have thought that our finances across the two years are so materially different from theirs. I suppose they have more wiggle room in the wage bill with all their older players’ contracts expiring but still. Always assumed that Armstrong to Southampton was pretty nailed once/if Ings left. Reckon their recruitment team probably assumed as much too. Will be crucial for them to get in someone good otherwise they’ll be sleepwalking to relegation.
They certainly can't be expecting to rely on Che 'Andre Gray's younger brother' Adams for the goals to keep them up, that's for sure...
I think the main reason is that they sold Wan Bassaka for £50m profit in 19/20. In any event they ended the year with £58m cash and debt (including outstanding transfer fees) of £77m so net debt of c£20m. (most of that debt is to the owners and non interest bearing). We have net debt of £170m !
Really? I think he's going to do extremely well wherever he ends up. He ran our defence ragged both games last season.
Hmmm ok that’s interesting. I’m not an accountant by any means so my analysis of their accounts has been far more rudimentary but even in the 18/19 season when they sold AWB they only made a profit of £5m. 17/18 they had losses of nearly £40m. In terms of the losses and wage/turnover ratio we appear far better run than they are. Did their American fund part-owners spend a lot of money clearing the debt? How were they able to maintain such a high wage bill on similar turnover to us and accrue such losses without amassing lots of debt?
‘A deal worth up to £15m…after rejecting two earlier bids this summer of £7m and £8m plus add-ons. Newcastle to receive 40% of any profit over £1.75m’ Blackburn were never getting anywhere near that £25m.
