I found it stunning how many fans thought that E&S would be happy to come to this miserable wet isle to play 2nd tier football when they’d been playing like heroes in Spain. The only way that would happen was as a last resort if no Spanish club wanted them. Bringing Succ & Pen over was a huge mistake. The minute they made an impact in Spain they should have been flogged with a decent sell on %. From that moment onwards they have effectively become ex-footballers.
Possibly, and I'm not trying to be a Pozzo apologist but merely presenting an alternative view, a major factor with the lack of academy players making the step up since their ownership has decreased because of the club being in the premiership. Watford had over fifty from Harefield making first team debuts wasn't it? That was with the club flapping about in mid-table of the championship and not having too much money to spend. Very few came through and made a lasting impact. There was a definite ceiling to the ability of those players and it wasn't as high as the Premiership. With the want and financial need to stay in the EPL and an axe hanging over their collective shoulders from day one, it's understandable the long list of head coaches haven't tried to develop young players in the first team.
I was commenting more on the home grown players brought through the academy rather than the South American contingent the club had at one point, although your point stands with regards to those Saying that, I sat through Kwasi Sibo's 60 minute performance for ibiza this morning and if there's any doubt as to why the vast numbers of anonymous players never to have set foot in the UK don't make it, his was a very good example. I mean, this is the link if you want to waste a couple of hours but I don't recommend it.
In your opinion, why did we sell Berghuis Recluse Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sorry @wfcSinatra, and I'm not having a convenient senior moment but I can't remember half of what was going on at the club when he was here to even have a reasonable point of view. All I recall with any degree of clarity was he could cross well but didn't offer too much else and he was after regular first team football. They'll be others with far better memories than me as to why it never worked out for him here. Sorry.
This argument has been done to death, as it has been done every single time it crops up. Peñaranda is a ******* idiot for not taking his chances whilst out on loan and for his various misdemeanours including that sex video scandal last summer. Senior management at Watford are ******* idiots for having no development plan for one of the most talented young players we've ever had. We have lost out on multiple millions of £ because we totally mismanaged him. So there you go. BOTH parties are to blame. Happy now?
We've never loaned out Dele-Basiru or Quina, and Success has been here five years now and only been on one half season loan. That, in itself, is a different problem - young players with no pathway to the first team who only play a few cup games per year but those three certainly haven't been hawked out on loan after loan.
It's obviously not working for him again. Get him back under the new Spanish speaking boss while we're struggling upfront. As you said can he be any worse than Gray...
I won't lie, there's a part of me which is kind of intrigued to see him for us this season (the fleeting moments we've seen of him in a Watford shirt he's actually been pretty good!), but there's a reason every Watford manager since God knows when, as well as all of his loan managers, haven't fancied him
Both parties are to blame. The hierarchy for failing to develop or create a coherent strategy for incorporating starlets like AP into the side or before buying him doing a thorough enough assessment. It is clear he does not want to play substandard football either in the u23 or a tinpot league. He won't learn anything from it. There has been no mentoring for him either. Then again it is on him to buckle down work hard and make himself an attractive proposition for another club to take him on. No one in their right mind would touch him with a bargepole. It is a shame because he has undoubted talent. Unfortunately his career path is following those of others who think talent alone will do and lack a work ethic and self discipline.
Agree with all of this. The record books are full of players who had the world at their feet and talent that the rest of us can only dream of, but as you say they believed they could reach their potential on talent alone when actually, a work ethic is what is required more than anything. Luke O'Nien is a prime example. An absolute grafter and a shining example to kids everywhere because of his attitude on and off the pitch. The likes of Peñaranda, Success etc. would do well to take note.
I think he might have a first touch. Giving him a short run of games wouldn't be the worst idea. Surely he'd be more motivated here than on another random loan, if he was actually involved?
Can he be worse than Gray? If the answer is yes then he needs to change career. If no then he needs to be back here.
Like him, but he wasn't good enough for us then, and he's not good enough for us now, even in the Championship. I'm sure he'll have a decent career at League 1-ish level though, and maybe we'll try to get him back after we get relegated when Gino sells up.
No chance he'd leave Sunderland for us. I see Carl D1ckinson is still turning out for Yeovil Town. He's more the calibre of player we'll be aiming for.
Wanted by Las Palmas apparently. Hopefully it's true and we can shift this waste of space at last. https://www.udlaspalmas.net/2021/06...rbita-de-la-ud/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
