Deeney isn’t going anywhere. Even if I agree. He’s here to stay. Success, Perica and Gray will all be gone.

 

There's always next year or any one of the next 27 as he serves out his life sentence. I reckon he'll get games here in his 40s as loan moves become harder to secure.

What a waste of talent. Can't be easy being young and being forced out on constant loans to different places without being able to settle in to a settled lifestyle off the pitch

 

I'm sure he will end up at Luton on a free and we will pay off most of his contract. And he will score hatfuls for them.

There will be someone. Personally think it will be a minimal fee of around £1.5-2mil. The club will just have to accept it.

 

I think he will. A new start in front of fans who loved him. Guaranteed starts week after week. 15+ goals for sure.....IMHO.

 

We won't receive a fee and will have to part-buyout his contract. It will cost us to get him off the books.

True. However, if he gets a contract for £30k p/w over 3 years. He will earn more in the long run. He won’t play for us, so he will know that. A year just collecting a salary and not playing, basically will make him undesirable next summer on a free.

Think he would rather £30k p/w for 3 seasons and earn more in long run with salary and sponsorship deals.

 

Do we pay Peneranda £70k per week? Jesus wept!!

 

This makes no sense. He’ll be more attractive on a free the following year to suitors and will still be able to get the same length contract. He’s not going to take a 50% pay cut just to earn us a transfer fee!

As a professional football player, you want your future secured. Gray right now has 1 yr left on £70k p/w. That’s £840k a year. He won’t play for us all season. So come next summer he will be unfit, overweight, 31 years old and out of contract.

Can guarantee that Gray that Gray would rather leave us this season, sign a 3 year contract at a new club for £30k p/w. Over three years that’s just over a million pound. So more than what he would get here sitting in his backside for a year. Then on top of that sponsorships that will continue to pay him.

I think were he willing to halve his wage to 35k a mixture of his goal record historically in the Championship/PL and his pretty impressive xG/90 record last season would see a poorly-run Championship side willing to drop 2-3m for Gray. We could then use 1/4 or so of that transfer fee to top up Gray's wages by an extra 10k a week.

Yes you’re right. I’ve had a shocker. I stupidly did 70k x 12 rather than 52.

30k x 52 x 3 equals £4.6mil nearly £4.7mil.

So the point I was making still stands. He will earn more money signing a 3 year deal on £30k p/w than he would with us seeing out his contract.

 

...but you've assumed he would earn nothing after this coming year, when in fact he will be a free agent, with proven scoring record in prem and champ. So very likely to be able to sign the 2 year deal at £30k/w and pocket the extra £40k/w (£70k vs £30k) he will get this coming season whilst putting his feet up ????? He could in fact only play one season at £30k/w, and retire a year earlier, and he's still be better off staying here for a year than signing a 3 year deal now at £30k/w (£5.2m vs £4.68m).

 

Genius. I’ve sent word to Duxbury. We are now offering Hughes and Chalobah 6 year extensions for 30% of their current wage. They will sign because the total adds up to way more than what they will earn in their last year of current contract and their future is secured. Problem sorted.
