Briggs was absolutely shambolic. It seemed like he was doing everything in his power to stop us getting promoted

 

I think it was the Burnley game that cemented his reputation with me...

 

This seasons Marco Motta. But far worse.

 

Motta at least did that little flick over his head and then smashed the ball against the crossbar.

 

Very harsh on Motta tbf.

 

Motta played 35 times for Juventus. He is now 34 and playing in Indonesia apparently.

And I would still pick him over Lazaar tomorrow.

 

Still playing at a half decent level, currently playing in the top division in Denmark - saw his name a few weeks ago when doing some analysis for the Danish team I work for and had to do a double take!

 

I felt a bit sorry for Lazaar. I really got the sense that, after not being a hit at Newcastle and then being left without a club, he was trying everything in his power to succeed. He really tried hard, perhaps too hard.

The crossroads moment was quite early on. One of his first games for us. The ball dropped to him outside the box and you could see him getting ready to smash in a worldie. Everyone waited to see what he was going to do.

If it had worked out like he saw in his mind's eye and it had rocketed into the top corner, it might all have been so different.

Instead it skewed off comically wide and high. I think he had one or two more similar goes with the same result. So everyone saw it confirmed that he definitely was crap and that was that.

We will never spend another 45 minutes being brimful of Ashraf.

 

And we weren't even there to boo him.

Or encourage him, obviously.

 

If I remember correctly both he and Paredes absolutely larruped the crossbar on their respective debuts.

 

Liked for the last line. Genuinely made me chuckle.

 

Don't worry he'll be back after we spend all summer trying and failing to bring in a left back and Masina gets injured on the eve of the new season.

 

Wtf, last time I checked he was in the 8th tier of English football?!?! I know he had issues with pressure and mental health and took part in a documentary series on that theme, so fairplay to him, but at the same time I can't really think anything other than incredibly badly of him as a player based on everything we saw of him when he was with us.

Leventhal says he and Sanchez are almost certain to leave....whether he knows that though or is just speaking as we do on here, who knows.

Sanchez would be worth keeping to do much the same job he's done this season.

Nope. This was the trash of the Championship where you can bring someone like him on to close out a game. Would be caught out in the Premier League. If we want to stay up, need to be looking at much better even as squad players.

 

I think he can come on, break up play, keep it simple and help out late in games at the higher level, just as well.

Agree with the general point that we need to improve in all areas though. We have players who shouldn't even be used in an emergency.

 

While I take the point, both Villa and West Ham didn’t think he was capable of doing that. And that’s when he was younger than 35.

 

Fair enough, but both those clubs have track records as terrible judges of players.

Also, maybe he would rather be a regular player and thought that stepping down to us would've given him more game time. Perhaps a move back to a S. American league will allow him to play more regularly for a couple of years.

It's no biggie, I was only advocating for him as a sort of late game settler to help calm down any onslaught if we are leading or trying to save a point.

 

Yeah I don’t disagree. I just think the increased pace, coupled with his age and failure at that level twice before, suggests to me it’ll be another contract handed out to a 35Yr old that we would regret. I’d have hoped we have learned our lesson in that respect.

But I totally agree about the need for a player in that mould you speak of - the ability to come on and close the game down. I think it’ll be quite important next season that any lead we get in a game, we hold on to. I doubt there will be many comebacks...

Worrying that there is actually an option for another year. Hopefully the list of left back targets is pretty lengthy this summer or we could end up panicking and giving Lazaar another year...
