I see Norwich beat us by a score 0.5 - probably down to helping in the pedestrianization of their city centre.

For what its worth, its a good thing the club have made such an effort to be sustainable, in terms of climate if not financially at least. We are atleast getting something right!

Given how dementedly Forest Green Rovers pursue that aim as the basis of their very identity, it's actually quite amazing that we've managed to just pop up so close to them/the top, seemingly ex machina. I have no idea of a single sustainable initiative we have ever undertaken, although presumably they must be there somewhere.

Looks like Norwich got the extra 0.5 points for goal difference.

Of course we’re sustainable. We even recycled QSF from the Pozzo head coach scrapheap.

A cryptocurrency Casino as our shirt sponsor and American Airlines as a major partner, seems a highly considered study.

But… one of our partners are this company:

    https://clearvue.business/

So we’re likely offsetting our carbon footprint. Hopefully it’s not just the type where you pay someone to just allow you to carry on as normal Instead of making some actual changes yourself.

Well, whoop-de-f'kn-hoooo. I couldn't care less. If we were to burn witches on the stand rooves to serve as floodlights I wouldn't be bothered.

This is the sort of irrelevant sh*te which really p*sses me off with modern football. Who cares ?

All I'm interested in is seeing our players put a proper shift in, hopefully win a few matches, and that I leave the stadium feeling I've been entertained and had my money's worth.

Not too much to ask, is it ?

Is this what counts as important now? Who can pretend to care about the environment the most?

That’s not really the point though, is it? As a supporter I would hope my club is making whatever moves they can to be more ‘sustainable’ (whatever that means) and more widely I hope that applies to all institutions. However, in the narrow field of football, I really don’t think it’s any of my business how the club is run - I can only hope it’s run well. Like Harefield Yellow I just want to turn up at matches, which I enjoy doing, support a team that wants to win as much as I want them to and plays in a reasonably entertaining way.

That's a fair point but it's not as if the club are shouting out their sustainability ranking instead of announcing the starting line up. If it's not of interest, no one is forcing anyone to engage with it.

How is this possible? Have they not seen our pitch? Our "GREEN CARPET"? We must be one of the most eco-friendly clubs in the entire football pyramid!

Nope, they seem to be making a real effort with it across a number of categories from waste management to biodiversity and education - https://www.watfordfc.com/news/sustainability-the-hornets-commitment-to-tackling-climate-change . The only thing they havent tackled yet from the looks of it is team travel to & from games.

So in other words, I hope it’s well run, but ultimately I don’t really care because all I’m worried about is the football? No wonder the world is in the state it is. Climate change should be everyone’s responsibility, I would’ve thought far more so from an organisation you follow and support out of choice. Out of interest, who would you want to be focusing on this type of thing, and who would you want to hear about it from?

It’s also worth noting the subject is about an independent study, it’s not even like the clubs itself is actually ramming it down your throat anyway.

That’s great to hear, I really hate it when you see companies saying **** like “we’ve gone green” and all they’ve done is pay someone to offset their carbon emissions. How about actually changing what your doing to make yourself carbon neutral and do the offsetting as well?

Sorry, no, that wasn’t what I meant at all. I agree everyone should be taking responsibility over climate change, including WFC, but not especially them just because I am a fan. I hope and trust they are doing their bit, although I do wonder when it comes to things like travelling to away games and growing the pitch all year round.
However, watching Watford has always been my main source of entertainment (God help me) and I accept I have no control over how the club is run. I therefore don’t spend time worrying about the finances, youth policy, staff turnover or green initiatives no matter how much I wish they were better handled. I really just want to turn up and enjoy the football as I have in the past.

Hard to have a community club when the community is 30 feet under water.

Might suit Bournemouth at home, though.

Well the travel can be cancelled as the players generally don't turn up anyway. Does that now make us carbon negative or is it positve? You know the one where we take in more than we produce?

Being on the training ground during the week doesn't seem to be making much difference, so why not spend the time walking to matches? Google Maps reckons 6 hours 23 mins to get from VR to the Kennel. That could be Friday's workout.

Might want to get the bikes out for the Sunderland trip.

Davis would need to set out a day earlier given he’d need a long break after every 60 mins.

The same club that is often accused, by some of its fans ,of loosing its soul and not being the community/family club it once was. Rancid seems to be the description of preference. Seems to me the club cant win in this regard, would be interesting to see what the comments would have been if they hadnt scored so highly on the sustainability table for instance.

Personally I dont see what the issue is, like you say the community side is run separately to the footballing side. I thought that was more of Duxberrys remit while Gino & co concerned themselves with playing football manager with the first team? Could be wrong on that though.
