Giaretta. Done some decent business and ultimately is controlled by Gino but he's just another yes man.

Agreed. I’d like to see the Pozzos back a DoF with a real body of work and a vision for the club. Even their guy at Udinese, Marino, has had long stints at Roma, Napoli and Atalanta previously. He seems a much more considerable figure than Giaretta and is probably more empowered to make independent decisions as a result. Someone like Giaretta seems more determined to just remain in Pozzo good graces to ensure he remains in their favour as opposed to progressing the club and progressing their career (even if that results in them leaving to a bigger club after a few years).

    I think we’re at 28 with Kalu.

I’d like to see Sema, Gosling, Tufan, Kabasele, Rose and Fletcher moved out (down to 22) and then a new CB and GK and/or more progressive midfielder come in. One can dream.

Gosling (perm) and Fletcher (loan) to the Championship shouldn’t be too tricky and Sema (Udinese) and Kabasele (?) could get sorted. Rose paid off and Tufan sent home (if possible)

    Edit: also Bachmann out. Please.

I think Gosling to the champ on a perm would be very tricky. Might get Fletch out for loan with someone picking up 30% of his wages or thereabouts - he’s below average by champ standards.

I think we’ve shifted that sort of proportion of Gray’s wages to QPR and he’s one of our highest earners. I read that a few clubs are interested (Hull and Swansea) a few weeks ago and I’d imagine they’ll cover the majority of Fletcher’s wages at least. It hasn’t been reported that he’s a particularly big earner. No idea on Gosling but again a loan should be possible at the very least. He’s probably not on PL level wages is he?

  6. Jumbolina

    Jumbolina First Team

I would imagine they are both on 20-30k per week which is more than their ability merits. The problem is they are below average championship players and money still seems a bit tight in that league.

If they don’t get loaned out in the next week then that will tell you all you need to know as they clearly aren’t playing here this season. Gosling I suppose got us over the line last year so pays for himself. Fletcher was just Pozzo wazzing money up the wall again.

Nothing to base this but that seems high to me for both personally. Maybe at the lower end of that spectrum if there at all. I think they are both about average players in the championship, too.

Average champ salary is 30k. Fletcher signed as a free transfer, for a premier league club as a striker. Can’t see how he’d be on much less than champ average.

Gosling joined after playing in premier league for about 10 years. Again can’t see him being on much less than average, even if we did sweeten it with daft contract length.

  9. LeedsOrn

    LeedsOrn Reservist

The average championship salary isn’t 30k. I think a number of sources have run with that figure but that is the average wage of the highest earner at each club in the championship.
    https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....000-Crazy-wages-dont-add-EFL-clubs-brink.html

I reckon it’s much closer to £10k but again the information out there is rather shoddy.

  10. Jumbolina

    Jumbolina First Team

Well okay. Mail says it isn't, other sources says it is. Plenty of sources have Gosling on 35k per week. Guess none of these sources really know.

How much is your guess that Fletcher would be on? Free transfer. Striker. Premier League club. I’d be amazed if less than 20k considering the wages some of other garbage reportedly get!

Anyway we will see. If they are on moderate salaries then we will be able to shift them on loan or on perms.

  11. LeedsOrn

    LeedsOrn Reservist

I would ignore those salary sites like Sportrac personally.

The podcasts I listen to about the championship (NTT20, for instance) have routinely described wages over £30k as “big wages” etc in passing and so I would be surprised if it is in fact the average wage. £30k is I would imagine about average for our squad, so I’d imagine the Championship would be much less. I also don’t think that whether they go out on loan will say much about their wages - if we want a loan to go through we can just subsidise as we did with Gray one of if not our highest earner.

  12. Jumbolina

    Jumbolina First Team

30k does seem high to be honest given you have Peterborough, Barnsley, Millwall, Luton in the mix.

But anyway I think Gray is an exception due to his ludicrous wage and the fact we want him out of the club. I know I jest at the posters who think we will get loan fees and 100% wages covered, but I think Pozzo would want most wages covered. If we don’t shift them when they are clearly not needed I’d say it shows we are paying them more than we should be.

And back to original point I think it will make getting Gosling off permanently very problematic.

I guess we’ll see. We can always just leave him out of the squad (or hope that threatening to do so will result in him finding a move).

Money is still tight in the Championship, unless you’re at risk of going down, or looking to secure a play off spot, what is the point of loaning Gosling or Fletcher? It’s just a waste of money. So really there is only a finite amount of clubs that would likely benefit from loaning either of them. And you can take out the top 2/3 clubs as well as they have a lot better already. Fletcher barely scored any goals at Championship level, so I’d struggle to see the benefit for any Championship club loaning him, what would they be hoping for?

Obviously we bought Gosling in our position, but the key difference is relatively speaking we had the money.

I’d agree with Jumbo. I imagine both are on about 25k a week give or take.

I'm beginning to get a little worried that we might sell one or two of our better forwards before this window closes as we seem to be concentrating on maybe bringing in forwards rather than defenders, which most of probably think should be our priority

I bet Gino's two phones are going berserk at the moment with clubs wanting to take our players...

More like Gino's two phones are going berserk with him desperately trying to get clubs to take the tat from our squad, of which there is a lot.

When was the last window where we didn't have to release someone on a free or desperately ship a few off to Udinese? I thought Gino's specialty was player trading? Well he does a great job filling the squad with absolute sh!t, unfortunately he finds it difficult to shift that sh!t when nobody wants to take them off our hands. Funny that...

We have always done this its partly the reason we are in the predicament we are in without adequate defenders for the division. We bizzarely have never really spent anything substantial to improve the defence.

I can only think of Janmaat and Kabs tbh. The rest have been in the bargain bucket. Seb and Britos were both excellent on their day though.

For a promoted side Prodl was an excellent signing by the club, especially on a free transfer. The work was clearly put into it before the summer but the club have just stopped finding those deals. I don't care about them spending millions of pounds, I just want upgrades whether they cost money, are free or even loans.

We all agree, well I hope we do. It still baffles me and it always will. But we have constantly bought in weak willed soft defenders since Seb and Britos imo. FS has shown some fight but he's not getting the regular minutes or settled partnership. One thing I will never expect is a defender turning their body in a challenge. How can you defend a ball when you have no idea where it is. Man up, take it in the face, chest or the nuts just make sure you know where it is.
The Eupen defender we were supposedly after does exactly this. Eye on the ball and just took the punishment to stop the ball. Surely this isn't too much to ask from a Premier league defender.

We have just under 24 hours left of the Transfer Window, so will we bring any more players in, I personally would like at least one more CB or a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back.

As for outgoings, I would hope that there are going to be quite a few of our deadwood players on the way out.

However I also fear that we might possibly lose at least one of our star players, but if we do hopefully it will be for BIG money and not at a knockdown price.

Surely we have got to offload some of our garbage even if they have to go on a free, otherwise we'll be paying 3 or 4 players to basically spend their time on the golf course & sitting at home playing XBox or what ever.

Agree with Rose as I'm sure virtually everyone will, but I definitely want to see the back of Tufan as really think he is one of the worst players to ever don a WFC shirt.

Sadly I think that although he tries very hard Sema needs to go as he is not PL level, and one other that possibly needs to be offloaded is Kabaselle, not because I think he is not good enough for the PL, but because unfortunately he is such a sick note these days. Lets face it he was due to be back a few weeks but just before he was available he got injured again.

I know he is back playing now, but maybe that is why we should cash in on him in this window, because he is very likely to get injured yet again very soon, but I would love to be proven wrong on that.

There are others that I would not be unhappy to see leave, but they might have some use if we have an injury crisis.

You can't even just give them frees because Pozzo year after year gives poor players contracts no other club would give them. It's part of the reason why we struggle so much financially. The constant mid/long term burdens Pozzo leaves us with. Kabasele is with us until 2024. Sema is contracted until 2025. Even Cathcart and Gosling still have another season after this one. All players with absolute minimal transfer value. Idiotic.

Why would clubs be queuing up to sign Kabasele if he’s continually injured?

Yeah, whether he stays with us or not, this is the problem - there is no such thing as 'cashing in' on Kabasele. At best we'd get someone to take him off our hands for significantly less than we paid for him - he's a centre back who turns 31 in a months, has barely played for the last 2 seasons and only ever had one period in his 6 seasons with us in which he established himself as a first-choice starter for us (in the second half of the 19/20 season) at which point we were promptly relegated.

Plus, as Jumbo has said, he is under contract for another 2 and a half years. We will be essentially having to pay someone else to take the burden of his wages, and whoever would want him would be unlikely to be able to cover whatever he's on here with his extended contract, so the only realistic situation is either a loan in which we cover a certain amount, or a contract cancellation - either of which, of course, he would have to agree to.

It's not even just that we're incredibly unlikely to get any significant money for him - it's that we will find it incredibly difficult to do anything other than have him hanging around, stinking up the place in a playing sense and costing us a Premier League defender's wage (which he will presumably be being payed the entirety of given he signed for us 6 years ago, before the first germ of the concept of Scott's mythical relegation clauses) for the entirety of the rest of his contract - more than 2 further full seasons.

It's hard to think of a worse, or more stupidly engineered, contract situation for a player, that's more disadvantageous to the club that owns him (us!). Off the top of my head, I think the only example that contends with it would be Janmaat (also us).
